Great pics of the ATF cruise, jaspurr!  Here are a couple more.  That boat moves a lot faster than the barges, and doesn't need to use the locks.
Wonder if they saw Zooey perched on the feeding ledge below the nest box or elsewhere nearby?

Another red dawn at GSB, with adult Peregrine, possibly both Newman and Zooey are perching here and there.

Awaiting some new views from yesterday's ATF cruisers.

That's a 15-unit barge headed upriver this afternoon, about 2:00.  Marquette Transportation is the name of the towboat pushing it.  Maybe it is empty, and not so heavy to push against the current.

River drivers call the boat that pushes a barge a towboat instead of a tugboat.  They consider tugs as smaller and in saltwater, according to Google search.

Thanks for the info STL.  Towboat Bill and Towboat Annie don't sound quite right tho'?  :D ;)

And I wonder if "the driver" is still Captain.....or Commodore?  Wish we could ask Mark Twain.

I think they're still "captain".  Those really have power for one to push that many units upstream.  It's sad we haven't seen any sign of the juvies except that one time when it was first down.  I only hope if something happened to them it was fast and they didn't suffer.  :-\

SHEP, STL, NORA.        OLDGUY posted this in the Lounge Forum.  John Howe talked about the GSB during his presentation at the ATF.  I am sure that OLDGUY won't mind me sharing what he posted in the forum with you.
"John reported that cam operators were not able to locate either of the Peregrine falcons that jumped early...  The nest will be replaced for next year with a camouflaged box that will look like a log.  They are also planning to do some fly control treatments.  The Flyway is also getting upgrades - a second cam location - with new pole and solar power unit"

I think OLDGUY meant the three e's that jumped early.

Jaspurr, thanks for the post with info about next season at GSB and the Flyway.  Good news.  And it's really sad that Newman and Zooey's 3 chicks from this year didn't survive the early jump from the nest box.  Makes us realize how hard it is for these wild raptors!

Couple morning pics of Zooey. This is the time of year when Peregrines in the Midwest do their molting, and she is looking spiffy.

She is stunning!  So much so that she had company on the feeding ledge for a while this afternoon.  Rewind to about 1:00 to see a second adult at the left side, way in the back, just the face in the pic. I'm guessing that it is Newman.  Zooey stayed on the ledge most of the afternoon, but I'm not sure when or if the other Peregrine flew away.

Does anyone wonder if Zoey has been fighting?

Zooey fighting?  Hadn't crossed my mind.  What have you noticed, Shep?

SHEP, what have you noticed.  You can't ask a question like that and leave us hanging.   :o. When was the last time someone saw Newman?
