Sure hope Nora and John and Amy and all the other Peregrine fans can get my sarcastic sense of humor.
I honor Bob Andersen's dream of putting Peregrines back on the cliffs of the Mississippi and cheer his success and feel we're blessed to have lived in his times.  Sure hope we quit digging and climb out of the hole we're in now before my time ends.  And that's probably the first time I've written the fact down of my impending end of mortality, but I'm already way older than I thought I'd ever be, and life is like a piece of string with a start and a finish.  Some strings are longer than others but they all come to an end.
Which explains a small part of Eburg's String Theory.  :) ;) ::)

Have the barges gone away from these locks??  Probably I'm just looking at the wrong times.

One of the eyasses sits on the box rail now.  Likely the oldest.  One was on the rail on June 11, so not a new thing.
And two of them are self-feeding, kinda.

Terrible news -- One of the eyasses climbed over the edge of the nest box about 2:00 this afternoon, and fell off.  Breaks my heart.
The other two seem OK.   Cam ops have been searching the side of the bluff, but I don't think they have found the little one.  Maybe the parents will find it.

When I saw the cam ops focusing on the trees below the nest, I knew.  :(

Fludge is the term for an early, accidental fledge.  OK.  Still worrisome even if it is falcons!

Whatever is causing these young ones to be so adventurous?  In a nest box on the side of a bluff.  Give me a flat roof any day.

Great Spirit Bluffs home of Newman, Zooey and 3 little ones...
All 3 baby falcons have fallen from great spirit bluffs... prayers needed. this has happened before, last time Carson fell 2 years ago and he was ok. The last 2 just kinda followed suit with their sibling.
Here  they are earlier today...
All three of them asking for food earlier today "very loud"  ;)

cute little skinny legs

The falcons at Great Spirit Bluff have jumped out of the box. We originally thought that we were seeing some exploratory behavior, but it looks like the blackflies drove the youngest falcon out before the older two.

We’ve been asked if we plan to go down and rescue them. For now, we’re leaving them alone. It is our experience that falcon parents will take care of their young by flying into the understory to find, feed, and defend them. We don’t want to make the little falcons harder to care for by driving them deeper into the woods, so we’re monitoring them with our cameras for now and will act based on what we see and how Newman and Zooey respond.

Not everyone will care for this video, but I’ve included it for anyone who is interested: https://youtu.be/nwSBsxcwr0I. The falcons were between 31 and 33 days old and had well-developed primary feathers to help them flap and break their fall.

YES the parents know exactly where they are
 and feed and guard them

Juvies can be heard - just like in past years

I remember several years ago
all 4 fludged the same day - driven out by black flies
All 4 were fine
They have enuf wings to descend gracefully, softly
FALCONS LIVE ON CLIFFS!!!

I even remember a couple names that year - Jonathan, Mandy and Stolte -
the 4th I called Terri cuz I cant remember her name

NESTBOX is empty
June 14 they had a Fludge-a-rama and all escaped
https://youtu.be/_eggY8kTTLI

Fludge #1 did EXACTLY what Jonathan tried to do years ago
https://youtu.be/oiCRuHjfiHI

Fludge #2 went out on the stick (like Terri years ago)
#3 came out to perch outside and watch

Good news about locating one of the eyass,  I think I remember that last year they treated the nest when they banded Chance.  I am going to thinks positive thoughts about the other two.

SHEP, I did read what you wrote.  :) I have seen them jump before at GSB but it doesn't get any easier to watch.  I did say that I am thinking positive thoughts.  Thank you for the words of encouragement.  I want to see some barges on the Mississippi   ;D

Hi Jas and thank you Shep for the words of encouragement ;) I was wondering about that too jas, I think they treated Chance for the bug bites from the black flies last year and then the box as well... will have to check archives.  I saw someone flying around looks like might have brought food earlier??  Maybe Zooey? I see Newman is keeping a close eye on them from the tree branch above.  Good news is should be cooling down and less humidity by tomorrow morning  (30 degrees cooler by 6am in central Iowa) that should help a bit.   I have been checking on them every day just haven't been able to do much recording lately. I truly hope we can see all three of them on camera today.  :-\  Prayers for all 3 of you little ones and good thoughts :) 💜
