Pics from this morning, the chicks seem to be doing very well.  Will see if banding happens.

I hope John has his peregrine proof vest on this year.  :). Don't forget your helmut.

This was posted about 4 hours ago on Explore's GSB chat board:

Message from Raptor Resource Project regarding banding the Falcons:
Due to the avian influenza this season, the Raptor Resource Project is not banding or handling falcons. We will be monitoring production instead of banding young falcons. Where there are cameras, like at Great Spirit Bluff, we won’t need to repel to check.

Thanks to Ginger for passing along the message about no banding this year.  Better to skip it than take a chance on passing avian flu from one bird to another.

Nora, you are so right, these eyases are well fed and growing like weeds!  I was thinking the nest box could use an annex!

Feathers with pinkish-tan color are starting to appear on jowls, tails.  They will soon look more like falcons than puff-balls.

What a difference in feathers a couple of days makes!  Zooey is getting her rusty look again, maybe change in hormones or the food she is eating.  And the kids are growing brown and tan face and body feathers as they lose the white baby down.

The chatters and mods at the Flyway live cam mentioned today that Zooey (maybe Newman also) has spent the nights recently on top of the nest box or on nearby perches, probably to guard against attack by owls.  Anybody have more information?

Last year, some kind of owl deterrent measures were used, I never knew what.  Anybody know more about this year?

Early morning, one of the parents on a tiny ledge to the left of the nest box.  See arrow in pic. Eyases OK as of 1:30 PM.

Love the pics, Shep.  Specially the parent perched among the wild plants, very artistic.

Wildflower experts, what is the white, 5-petaled flower in bloom now, shown near some dead wood close to the nest box.  Leaves look a lot like the anemone in my garden, but similar flowers are pink and bloom late summer.

Amen shep, amen!  :)

If this cam was solely dedicated to viewing Peregrine Falcons I wouldn't even watch it.  Don't like the screeches, the view, or the slaughter of songbirds.  Even with "the circle of life...." and all.  At least the cam backs off after dark and I can count barges and hope to see the locks occasionally and in the twilight before dark maybe even see the Empire Builder.  ;)

Update:  Hope my spouting off didn't cause the cam loss live.  Highlights are even worse than songbird consumption!  :) ;) ::)

Use the talents you possess: for the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except the best.

I liked your rant eburg
I enjoy it when trucks, train and barge all in the same frame.
