Jaspurr, I think you win the gold star for the mystery prey bird this time!  I remember seeing common nighthawks flying at an open-air theater during late evening, summer performances, swooping to catch insects in the lights.  They looked just like the bird that was breakfast on May 27.

The RRP page says banding will be Saturday, June 4. The time is not given. I hope they tell us how much these "little ones" weigh, they are certainly getting fed all they can handle :)

Checking in this morning, and it appears the black flies are starting up.☹️ So hard to watch those little guys undergo constant irritation. Hope it’s not too bad this year.

Thank You for the banding information ASTRO.

LOL, Zooey has placed the three e's in the corners.  Looks like a time out.

The chicks trundle around the nest box, then gather around the parent who brings food. Lots of squeeing now, and grabbing at prey. This morning about 6:30, breakfast is a cedar waxwing.  My pic is kinda blurry, but you can use rewind for better views.   ;)

I wonder if the tribute to TX Ninja will delay the banding on Saturday?

I think John and Amy can chat from anywhere.  And the mods run the chat line.  Should be no problem.

Jaspurr, RRP will probably take the cameras off line while they do the banding.  I think they did that last year.  They might post some pictures after.

STL and jaspurr--I'm pretty sure it was last year, but may have been the year before that I watched John Howe rappel down to the nestbox and send chicks up in a carrier.  I think Dave Kester was up top as safety man.  So keep an eye out.  We might be blessed this year too.
