Thanks for the info STL.  I was wondering how long an egg can go unhatched.  They were protecting the e's from the sun this morning and I was unable to get a good view of the egg.

Jaspurr, Rewind to about noon for a good look at the remaining egg.  I found the expected incubation days in the info about the peregrines on the RRP's  GSB site, scrolled down under the live feed.

Not yet, Jaspurr.  Early pic of chicks and the egg, and still no hatch in the view at 10:45 (no pic here either)

You know the old saying STL, a watched pot never boils.  Maybe if I stop watching the egg will pop.  LOL

Nothing like the sound of screaming hungry e's and breaking swallow bones in the morning.   :)

Chicks being fed and looking normal.  The egg is definitely pipped but not hatched as of 11:00 this morning when it was visible.

No hatching of the remaining egg at time of this posting (11:00 AM).  Elsewise, GSB seems to be getting on in good order.

I knew it would happen one of these days, looks like a Baltimore Oriole.

Nora, Yes, I agree, Baltimore oriole. Orchard orioles are rusty instead of orange and not sure if they live in Iowa.

Raptors being raptors, they do not always bring items to feed their young that won't make us say, "Eeewww."  At the Decorah North nest this morning, the mother eagle brought a baby hawk or owl and the young eaglets ate it right up.  So we gasp, maybe not watch, and continue believing in the importance of raptors on Earth.

It appears that Newman and Zooey have abandoned the unhatched egg as of earlier this afternoon.  It is still in the nest box but they are not incubating it.  If it was the last egg laid (April 9), it would be 39 days old.  Sad, of course, whenever an egg does not hatch.  These parents will have their work cut out for them raising 3 chicks to fledge.

They'll get plenty to eat.  I remember at King one year we ended up with one and she got HUGE.

Sad about #4.  I love to watch the Mississippi River on the cliff cam and there is a smorgasbord of small birds flying around for the e's to feed on.
