Thanks Puff and Ginger for the possible ID on the yellow flower.  There sure are many similar wildflowers at this time of year!

Morning today is really misty-foggy. Cam ops got some really artsy views of DN16 on the Perching Branch and the nest.  She spent the night on the Perching, then a short while on the nest playing with sticks, then flew to the Scary Tree about 9:00.  Haven't seen or heard her since then.  Hope for a reappearance later.  No other eagles, either.

Ginger, your DN15 last-seen date of early on AUG 9 is the same as mine.  Eat well, fly high, and be safe, Mr. DN15.    ;D

Love that 2nd pic, STL, beautiful!

Thanks Lisa.  It's all the camera operators who bring us the close-ups and special views.

My favorite today (so far) is the Eastern Wood Peewee at about 12:30 PM, in the tall wildflower patch and dead logs nearby under the nest.  And the red squirrel is really enjoying the lazy life in and under the nest.

There was an interesting spider for just a few seconds, but I didn't get a pic, and now I can't find it on the rewind.  Ah well, I'm not as fond of spiders.

No eagles in view from mid-morning to almost 5:00 as I post here.  Lots of crows cawing out in the pasture and hayfield beyond.  And the cattle herd in the pasture and the creek from about 3:00 (no pic).

Note: Corrected ID on the Eastern Wood Peewee (not flycatcher) made on AUG 21, 2022

When you hear scratching, clanking, loud sounds, it's probably one of the squirrels exploring the RRP equipment near the nest.  The cam ops watched one about 8:00 this morning.  They are very brazen now that the eagles aren't in the nest most of the time.

Hummingbird rested on a twig in the tall wildflower area at the dead logs under the nest. A little brown, striped bird was collecting grasses on the big log -- maybe a female house finch.

It's the season for grasshoppers, too.

No eagle sounds or sightings when scanning the rewind so far today.

DNF (I think) showed up in the Scary Tree about 1:00 this afternoon and perched for about an hour.  Might have been eating something at first. A crow landed on the next branch (at right) about 2:00, and DNF took off for parts unknown.

Squirrel closeups again at 2:15.

One of the adult BEs perched in a creek tree before daylight.  You can see the glow of its eye in the lower left.

Soft golden sunrise and a soundtrack of cattle and crows (rewind for the sound).

Cam ops found a hairy woodpecker and a red squirrel in the nest branches.  Hairy woodpeckers are larger than downies, 9 inches vs 6.5 inches, and they have longer bills also.  No red on its head, so female.

Great blue heron on the Brush Pile at 3:30, and a flock of cedar waxwings flying on and off some brush to the south of the Brush Pile at 4:30 this afternoon.  Crows and cattle like yesterday.  Also no eagles during the day, like yesterday.  The season is coming to a close with MrN and DNF successfully raising two more young to dispersal.

STL -- Take another look at that first pic you posted from yesterday morning.  It's Mr. North at the bottom but directly above him at the top of the screen is DNF -- you can see her eye glowing.  Both North's flew in before dark the night before so I had the advantage of seeing them there when it was still daylight.  :)

At about 6:06 a.m. DNF flew from downstream to land on the Scary Tree where she spent time preening until 7:12 when she flew over to perch on BPT.  (Some Sandhill Cranes were heard at around 6:34.)

Ginger, you are the eagle-eyed watcher to spot both MrN and DNF yesterday early!  Today, early, I thought it was DNF on the Scary Tree then the BPT, and you confirmed it.  Great pic of the takeoff!  At 9:00, DNF was still in the BPT.  Must be relaxing to know you don't have to feed the kiddos anymore.

2:00 this afternoon, DNF is back in the Scary Tree.  At 3:00 she is in a tree I don't recognize.  When she flew away across the pasture to the south, the camera backed off.  See the arrow marking the unknown tree.  Does it have a name already?

DNF perched high up in the Scary Tree from daylight (or before) until about 9:15, when she flew to the south and landed in tree branches between the Twiggy Tree and the Skeleton Tree.  Good to see her on the days before the cameras turn off for maintenance.

Does the camera stay on at the Flyway?  How about Great Spirit Bluff?

What a privilege to have all the RRP sites to watch live and on rewind.  I see that Amazon made a donation to RRP of more than $900.00 last quarter based on our purchases.

Thanks to all who posted pics and comments here on the Forum.

STL -- That tree you don't recognize is called the Spit Tree because it stands directly behind the Spit -- the place just downstream from the Brush Pile where there is water on both sides of a bit of land.  The eagles often don't spend a lot of time there throughout the year but lately they've been there quite a bit and at least one of the fledglings has been there too.

Thanks Ginger for the Spit Tree info.  I'll need to study the area carefully when the cam ops are panning to locate the Spit, and its Spit Tree.  Past posts of pics will be helpful, too. Something to do when the cameras are off.   I keep a folder of reference pics with labels for scenes like this.  You'd think there was going to be an exam, huh?  It's the teacher in me that just won't retire.   ;)
