Lisa, yes, I like watching them look at things in tandem, flyovers and such.

The DNs are reaching the hovering stage, when we gasp as the wind catches their wings.

DN16 claimed the large fish brought by MrN at 2:00, and is not happy about sharing the feast.

Memorial Day for all of us to remember the fallen and be thankful for victories.

DNF brought another deer carcass for the DNs. Use the rewind for closeups if you want the details!

STL -- I also thought that DNF had brought another deer carcass, but it actually turned out to be a very large rabbit.  You'll see if you go to rewind and check it out.

Those rabbits grow huge on Iowa corn!!  Thanks and you are correct, Ginger.  Fixed pic caption and a couple more pics from the rewind.

Bad timing here - my email account is out of use?  Worked on it yesterday, no success.

Of most importance would be the room reservations for ATF.  Those who already contacted me - no worries.  You're OK!  There are those who need to contact me if you have to reserve a room reservation.  Our deadlines are quickly approaching as given in my last posting about 10 days ago.  I did include my contact info.  Please use land line.

                                               AFTER  THE  FLEDGE  2022

It's time to return to Decorah.  Now if we only knew all the eagles' plans.  It is almost certain that North Nest arrangements are firmly decided.  The wait for the egg (s) has started.  But, Mom and DM2 are playing a waiting game.  I'm sure local boots on the ground will give us any updates once they make the big decision.  Last report from Amy even hinted at a new, unknown location.  Patience is a virtue is our mantra for now.

Main dates of our get together for 2022 are July 14 to July 16.  Extra days can be added at separate rates before or after the scheduled dates above.

Meanwhile I do have the information for the local available accommodations.  As usual I have put them on hold for the group.  Reservations are to be done through me.  You will have to submit your credit card information; rooms will be held in your name but no payment will be required until July.   If you determine you cannot attend, there is no charge to cancel if you do so by the cut off date (date given once your information is recorded).  Prices listed do not include taxes.

Unfortunately, because of a  pre-planned large wedding, pricing at the Fairfield on Friday and Saturday is up steeply.  Pricing at the other properties did remain more typical.  This little town does have lot going on during the summer.  It is a nice town to enjoy group activities.  Please, don't delay.  If you want to join our celebration contact me ASAP.

Only one pic for DNN today, although there was normal activity early this morning.  The pic shows a blurry wing as an intruder flew by the DNs on the nest, in a southerly direction.  No other pic, but it seemed to circle around the pasture and flew off to the north as the DNs watched.  About 6:30 AM, so might still be on the rewind.

Today, I've had workers at home doing attic insulation and finishing a plumbing project, so I've been monitoring them instead of the eagles!

June begins for the Norths, and all of us!  Dawn pink air at the nest.  Wingercizing and hopping by both DNs.  DN16 moved a big stick.  Betcha this is the week they start to explore the nest porch - patio.  At a quick fish drop by MrN about 7:30 AM, DN15 made a huge mantle, worth finding on the rewind.

Iowa has the best daybreak, dawn, and sunrise colors!  I think it's all that farm dust in the air.

Late afternoon, DNF brought the hind quarters of a fawn. No question about the identity.  The DNs are so well-fed that they didn't rush the carcass.  DNF was huffing and puffing from the heavy load.  Also calling to tell us what she has done!  Would be interesting to know if she or MrN killed the fawn in the first place and tore it into sections, or if some other creature, like a coyote, killed it and eagles got the leftovers.

DNs are picking at leftovers, and maybe a fish that DNF brought a couple hours ago.  Wing flapping continues, with sitting atop the rails.  DNF and MrN took a break to perch in a creek tree about 8:45 AM -- must look at my tree ID pics; won't be long before the DNs will be out there, too.  Last year, DN13 and DN14 were branching on June 10, and I think fledging on the 11th.  But how old were they compared to how old 15 and 16 will be on June 10 this year?

Squeeing announces the arrival of DNF with a large fish about 10-40AM.   DN15 claimed this one.

MrN brought a small mammal prey that DN15 claimed at about 6:30 AM.  Shortly after, DN16 stole it.  I don't know what the critter is/was.  No tail or head in the views.  Anybody have the ID?

Raining at 11AM.

Another early morning rain, and views of the DNs flapping and hopping and almost-hovering.  Better on the rewind to see the action.

Looks like both now have white wing feathers in the same location in the center of the extended wings, so harder to tell who is which.  Maybe the tail feathers are better ID clues now (no tail pics yet).
