It's a safe return for DN15, but you'd think he was bringing fish or that DN16 thought he was an intruder for all the hollering and mantling.
Back to same old, same old at the nest.  MrN brought a fish at 5:00 and DN16 got most or all of it.

Lori, love that pic of DN15 just hatched.  Still amazing that they start out at about 4 ounces and grow to full size, about 10 pounds, and fledge at about 80 days.

This one pic of all four on the nest could be the last we see them together.  That's MrN in front, DN16 left, DN15 center, and DNF on the Ladder Branch.

Does it count as branching if DN16 walks up the Ladder Branch then flies or glides down?  Several times this morning.
DN15 has been exploring the lower rung of the LB, to the right, see pics.
Heavy rain for a while.

After the rain, DNF dropped off a raccoon carcass and DN16 claimed it.  It's the season for young raccoons that make easy prey.  Later, MrN brought a fish that DN15 won and consumed while DN16 and MrN worked on the raccoon remains.  It's really windy and kind of hard to tell what's what on the nest, so I could be wrong about some IDs.   :)

Thanks, Lisa, and I will try NOT to confuse you or the rest of us.  Early morning there was a flight from the nest, rewind to about 6:30. At first I thought it was DN16 fledging, but listening to the calling and the one still stuck to the Ladder Branch and the nest, I changed my mind to DN15 taking a second flight.  Help me Ginger and the others who know better than I do!!

The flyer perched for a short time on the Yonder Tree [see pic], then flew to the creek and landed in some brushy branches on the far side.  MrN and DNF are on watch from that area.

DN15 came back to the nest at about 4:30, and made a pretty good landing this time.
Food drop just before 5:00.

Looks like DN15 might spend the night high on the Perching Branch.  Maybe fewer insects and a better breeze there.
DN16 seems satisfied to stay on the Ladder Branch or the nest.
SEDs to everybirdie.

Please say a special little prayer [or wish] of hope for the peregrine eyass who "fludged" this afternoon at Great Spirit Bluff.  Fludge is an inadvertent, early fledge,  according to those who know about such incidents.

From what I saw this morning, DN16 may be bothered by the gnats (?) that have plagued the nests in the past. At least DN16 kept shaking its head and scratching. I hoped when it got up on the branch it would be more comfortable but didn't see a reduction in the head shaking activity.

Arcadia, bugs are bad this year.  Probably black flies, which are quite small but the females bite & eat blood, driving birds to distraction (and fledging and fludging).

DN16 branched this morning about 10:15, to the Perching Branch of the nest tree, that dead branch on the left that DN15 started with, too. Then she returned to the nest and back and forth again.  Rain has not discouraged any activity.

More pics of DN16 at the nest, and DN15 perched in the Scary tree at the creek before returning to the nest.

Afternoon hard rain, even hail from the sound of it.  DN16 stayed on the nest and DN15 was high up in one of the creek trees, but don't know which one (see pic with orange arrow).  Both DNs are on the nest at posting time, 6:15PM.

Chatters from the North nest live feed are talking about a turtle brought to the nest, that DN16 ate.  I did not find it on the rewind.  Anybody know if that was today?
