The Puffin colony that breeds on Seal Island breed among the rocks while the colonies in the UK, Newfoundland and Iceland dig deep burrows into the hills. :D

A flock of Puffins headed to land on Channel Island in the UK. It won't be much longer for the variety of seabirds to again fill Seal Island, Maine with new life!  :D

Farne Island has now installed a cam in one of the deep Puffin hillside burrows. A different perspective for sure!

As we wait for Seal Island to populate for this year's breeding season, the main three areas for web cam viewing in the UK are as follows:

Skomer (Wales)  They are currently having technical problems  -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qt_PlfPMIsY
Shetland (Scotland)  -  https://www.shetlandwebcams.com/puffincam/
Alderney (England)  -  http://www.teachingthroughnature.co.uk/webcams/

There are Puffin colonies in Newfoundland, Canada and Iceland. Unfortunately, Puffins are hunted in Iceland.  :'(  Here is a petition you can sign:

Chatter DancingQueen posted a bit of burrow 59 history on Explore (as we continue to wait for season 2021 to begin)! <3

"I get dizzy trying to sort out who's who and who's new on the block at 59 Puffin Burrow Lane. First, there was Finnegan and Phoebe. They hatched 4 chicks and 3 fledged. Halfway through we found out Phoebe was the male puffin. And even though Finnegan hasn't been seen since 2015, Phoeb has been raising chicks in nearby burrows. In 2017 the burrow was occupied by a new pair named Willie and Billie. I think Willie was banded, a well known male puffin on the island. They hatched and fledged 2 chicks. And then one year Billie returned to the island later than the rest of the crowd, but by then Willie had a new mate in the burrow. (Millie) Out of all the main characters in the burrow, we are both sad and happy to say Pal, hatched in 2014, is the only babe that has returned to this island. We have not seen him in the burrow. Happy/sad for Phoebs. And happy/sad for Billie. We'll see what this year brings."

Here is a liitle map of the Project Puffine Research Area. The cams are on Seal Island but research takes place in this entire area.

I just downloaded the Adopt-a-Puffin donation form. I am going to adopt a Puffin - symbolically of course.  :D

The Puffin call is called "chainsawing" for obvious reasons!  :D
