I've been watching this nest for ten years.

Iris first known mate, Stanley, did not return in 2016, and she paired up with a new male named “Louis” for one successful breeding season in 2018. Louis moved to a nearby nest to breed with a different female Star in the following years, and in 2024, Iris paired with her current mate “Finnegan” for the first time.

Louis wouldn't allow other male ospreys to breed with Iris or he defended Iris nest. But he would steal her fish and give it to Star and their eaglets.
Iris laid his eggs for three years but couldn't brood, defend nest or feed herself at the same time. She left the nest to fish only to have it stolen by Louis.
The Ravens would steal her eggs. It was an awful time for Hell gate watchers.

Last year Finnegan was able to show Iris he would defend her from Louis. She had an egg that was Louis's egg. Finnegan kicked that egg out of the nest. Iris had two more eggs that Finnegan accepted.

Praying Louis stays away and Finnegan returns.

No Iris, but I did see a raven perched and crowing!

7.30 am  a beautiful robin perched at the nest awhile.  Looks COLD.  cam zoomed in on robin for closeup.  Its proly a male - maybe just arrived ffrom the south.

Is there another cam link?
I saw a shadow - as if osprey may have perched on cam side of nest.

Shep, the 2nd cam link is available on the top right corner above the main cam.
Can you see it in this pic I took of the main cam page? Clink on that tab and it's a view of Iris's fishing pole.

4/17 Iris has a tight grip on that fish.   The name "Osprey" made its first appearance around 1460, via the Medieval Latin phrase for "bird of prey" (avis prede). Some wordsmiths trace the name even further back, to the Latin for "bone-breaker"—ossifragus.  #HellgateOsprey

Taken by Mark Smith Photography - awesome video

I think this might be the best display I’ve ever seen of an Osprey air-surfing on the back of a fish.

It’s nesting season, and when a male lands a big one, he doesn’t just bring it home quietly. Oh no! He makes an entrance.

He climbs high into the sky, fish clutched tightly in his razor sharp talons and the performance begins.

He drops low, arcs upward, pauses mid-air, and lets out a cry that echoes across the water. “Look at this catch! Look what I brought home!”

It’s pride. It’s pageantry. It’s love, duty, and a bit of bragging… all rolled into one.

His mate watches from the nest, calm but clearly impressed. The other males? They try not to look. But they see. They always see. “Here comes Bob again,” they grumble. “Always with the biggest fish.”

The females nearby? Every single one of them eyes Bob and his impressive aerial display. How can they not? He’s the perfect Osprey package.

This clip captures the final moments of his aerial display and you can tell: this bird isn’t just feeding his family. He’s making sure everyone knows exactly who brought dinner.
