CHANCE ROOFS

Chance was flappin up a storm when suddenly she LEAPED! to the roof, as if she'd been doin it all along!
She sniffed around, looked around - then flopped
Now she is just chillin up there

SHEP, we were on the La Crosse Queen this afternoon.  Did you see us standing on the bow waving to you?  The Queen even blew its whistle for you.

That Rier Paddler was for you and everyone on the GSB cam.  I was up front waving like crazy.

 La Crosse Queen paddleboat came upriver to the dam - turned and went back south.
It didnt come past the bluff.
Can you see our own Jaspurr aboard, waving to us?

Jaspurr, that same day Chance roofed, flew back down to the perch, then flew back up to the roof overnite.  She did it just for you.  She was that excited to see you!

CHANCE CAMS!

6 am Chance is on top of the cam, flappin away vigorously.
She is 100% ready to fledge - so NO ONE have a heart attack if she slips off

8 am I think she's waiting for a barge.  She is on the cam at the moment.
When a barge comes by, she'll fly over and hitch a ride!
BOTH parents are around but I havent seen them bring food

Chance flew down to perch yesterday, but flew gracefully back up for the night.  I didnt think she'd sleep in box again.  Cooler, fresh air on roof.  I didnt see her parents bring her food on the DVR but I didnt look too hard.

Awesome to see a peregrine fledge from the GSB nest box -- my first.  Couple pics from rewind, and someone else might get closer views.

When I went to full screen view, there was a parent perched on a ledge below the nest. Parent flew off a moment before Chance made the leap. Will see if I can find the screen cap for the takeoff.

Will Chance hang around to be fed and learn to catch birds on the wing?

These camera operators are nothing short of amazing!!! How they can scan the bluffs and find Chance among the trees is unbelievable, but I'm sure glad they do it.

Raleigh, is the bird in your pic really Chance?  I watched and hoped for a view of the left leg with the bands, but no such luck.  I haven't been watching much, so don't have any other way to know if it is Chance.

Here are several pre-fledge pics from the rewind.

At this posting time (3:45 PM) one of the falcons has been on the ledge with a prey bird, then flew to the nest box, then around the area. Probably searching for Chance.

YES both parents are watching over Chance -
they have been - we've seen them keeping watch.
She may be seen on that cedar snag below nestbox
next week we may see her back on the roof - screaming for lunch

thanks everyone for pics & updates!!!  I haven't been able to check on her until recently today, had a mini freak out... but of course she's fine...  little booger is out flying all over the place having the time of her life. I'm calm now    You've come a long way little girl!
