update on SE15:
UPDATE 5pm - Geoff visited SE15 at the vet and fed *him (generic term, we don't know gender yet) barramundi. I think he said 7 or 8 pieces, which is pretty good. As well as no bone breaks (mentioned earlier) he has no ticks or parasites. His neighbours are now a noisy miner and a turtle.
As per Judy on SS this afternoon. SE15's remaining damaged primaries were removed along with a couple of secondaries. SE15 will not be returned to the nest, as there will be a lengthy stay in rehab. The feather damage was not caused by fall or from fighting with SE16, blood tests will hopefully identify the cause.
There is no ETA at present on when the results are due.
SE16 has been flying around and seems to be doing well.
Thanks, nrstooge.
There was more info on that same SeaEagleCAM FB page (public page - all can view it at
https://www.facebook.com/Sea.EagleCAM ) that was
posted in an earlier update at 2:15PM before the 5PM update posted above by nrstooge, so I'm going to include that below, as well as some related info in a comment posted on that page under one of those updates.
So this post below is copy/pasted from that FB page, and it was posted prior to the 5PM update posted above by nrstooge but has additional info:
Post from 12 hours ago:
EagleCAM12 hrsUPDATE - 2:15pm Geoff met with the vet at ARH a short while ago. X-rays were clear and SE15 "appears" well. They have drawn some blood for testing. Geoff is going back there later this afternoon with some barramundi for SE15. Hopefully there will be another update later today.
I'm also copy/pasting a comment that was below that 2:15PM update, using the initials of the commenter's name:
D.Y. - Judy said in SS that wings were malformed and the primary all were bad, so 15 will not be going home for and extended time , they removed his primary feathers at this time ... waiting for blood work results now
9 hrsMy comments follow now...
I don't know if the "wing malformation" mentioned above is something separate from the situation described as the "damaged primaries" or not. I guess we will wait for additional info when it's available after all the test results are back. I had noticed in one of the s'caps posted here the other day, of SE15 with wings fully spread out, that one of the wing's (was it the left one?) looked like it had an odd curve to the portion where the primary feathers are, but I didn't know if that was due to cam angle or not.
I came back to this post to add the following info...Oh, I went back and found the s'caps I remembered... They were posted by MpMom in this thread and can be seen at:
http://www.raptorresource.org/forum/index.php/topic,1933.msg440857.html#msg440857where you can click on the 3 attached 'scaps posted by MpMom (Thanks, Mp!) and see the wings and feathers while SE15 has wings spread. I thought they looked a little odd, but I know the feathers would still be growing even at time of fledge, so I wasn't sure if that explained what I saw, or if it was the cam view and angle, or if there was in fact something not quite right with the feathers.
Knowing that primaries, and some of the secondaries, were not properly formed, makes me love the little SE15 even more - so much spunk and will to carry on despite all that.
Love ya SE15!
