EagleCam Update

Sticks, sticks and logs!
On nest 11-17-2021

See the Corrected link below for participation
Welcome back EagleCam lovers!
See?  It really wasn't THAT long without the camera, right?  It is hard to believe that just three months have passed since our new, beloved eagle pair sent their kids packing and are gearing up for another brood!

It is Give to the Max Day, the day that we traditionally turn the camera back on.  The purpose of this is to raise awareness of the Nongame Wildlife Program and the critical importance of your donations.  Because we are unable to officially participate in the "Give to the Max Day" campaign, your direct donations are that much more important. Donating is fast, easy and there are multiple options for donating.  Just go here!

The Royal Couple
This pair is now tightly bonded, as they have spent the last year nearly inseparable.  Even today, both were seen on the nest together.  They have been busy gathering (some huge) sticks to the nest for "nestorations". This is territorial behavior.  It sends the message to any passage eagles "Hey, this is our home - don't even THINK about taking this area!".  Because of its proximity to a high concentration of bald eagles, these two have fiercely defended this territory many times.  Their young age contributed to taking over the territory from our aging "original mom", who to decided to move on and nest elsewhere after battling for her space.  This is a common occurrence with eagles, especially where the population level is as healthy as it is here in Minnesota.  Thanks to the EGG-cellent work of the DNR NongameWildlife Program and YOUR donations, our population is among the healthiest in the lower 48 states!

Enjoy the cam this year from the EagleCam and don't be afraid to venture outdoors to see wildlife in the winter!  Winter is a great time to view birds, especially because there are fewer leaves on the trees and it's easier to see them hopping and flying around our beautiful state.

We will be sending regular updates on what is happening, we have exciting news coming up in the next few months as we gear up for our 10th anniversary!

A Fun Opportunity to Engage with us!
"Are you interested in sharing your thoughts and experiences related to conservation in Minnesota? We are looking for participants from Minnesota who have supported the Nongame Wildlife Program through volunteering or financial contributions or who engage in outdoor activities but have limited familiarity with the Nongame Wildlife Program.

Please click this corrected link if you are interested in learning more about joining us for a 90-minute virtual meeting as part of this research (Virginia Tech IRB Protocol #21-850),  and to answer some initial screening questions should you choose to participate. If you have any questions you can email Kelsey Jennings at [email protected]. "

We want to thank you for your continued support of the Nongame Wildlife Program. We rely on your contributions and we just couldn't do our important work without your support.  YOU make our program and we thank you!

Will remember & love you Dad Decorah.

Great close up MpMom! Looks like our young male still has a few dark spots on that white head. He proved himself last year, so I’m sure he will be a great experienced dad this year. Looking forward to following these two once again.
