Lisa, I think if I remember right, in 2017, every time an egg would crack she would lay another. I believe it was 8 that year. Very very sad :(

They did test them in 2017, saying the shells were thin but as far as I know they didn't know or say why.

A tense week unraveled on the Sauces Bald Eagle Cam at Santa Cruz Island, where mom A-48 laid two eggs which promptly broke. Yesterday she laid a third egg, and we anticipate a nail-biting month until a hopeful hatch. Last season, this bald eagle couple saw three healthy eaglets, bouncing back from prior years when DDT contamination prevented them from producing strong eggshells.
