Pesky owl, that's for sure. Screech owl?  What other really small and brazen owls live in Iowa?  This one is right in the center of the pic.

Fall sky colors are wonderful in Iowa.

Definitely a little screech owl. I had one attempt to nest in a box once, and it got evicted by a squirrel. Not sure what that one thinks it’s doing messing with eagles.

In a Facebook post RRP ID'd the owl as a Northern Saw-whet due to size and lack of ear tufts although Amy said she was going to double-check that with her owl expert.  Maybe we'll see it again and can get a better look.

Little owls are as brazen as the big ones, that's for sure!

This morning, just at daybreak with color on cam, deer in the pasture, and the Norths visited the nest. So did a woodpecker a bit later.

Getting oriented to the creek area.  The sub-adult has been perching in the Brush Pile tree (I hope I'm right, see labeled pic).

One of the Norths perched in another tree, further to the left in the pic, which is to the north direction from the Brush Pile.  Ginger, can you supply the label for this very branchy tree?

MrN and DNF did some entertaining nest work around daybreak this morning.  It's best on the rewind video.

STL - On the Explore site we call that tree the Claw Tree.  Also, I don't think it was a North.  I think it was a visitor.  It appeared to have some dark feathers on head and on tail.  It looked similar to one I saw on Thurs. 10/21.

Today on the Claw Tree (GailM's pic).
