Kizzy & Lisa, great pics of the late afternoon chase & new dining table branch!

Wondering if MrN might have snatched the partly-eaten prey from the Sub-adult?  Don't think it was a fish, though.  Dark meat and lumpish.  I didn't see any identifiable parts on the rewind.  Whatever, it's great to see MrN up close and in fine fettle as we start a new season.

Very unusual noise at North Nest about 10:14 nest time.  All I could figure is some type of toad/frog?  Been here 10 years and it's new to me.

Maybe someone could recall/rewind to find it and identify.

Sandhill Cranes, Puff.  We saw 2 of them land by the stream this afternoon.  See pic posted above by STL.

DNF roosted in the Scary Tree last night (Sat.) and then flew off this morning.  I counted 13 different bird species in and near the nest today:  Belted Kingfisher, Bluejay, White-Breasted Nuthatch, Downy Woodpecker, Red-Tailed Hawk, American Robin, European Starling, Northern Cardinal (both male and female), House Sparrow, Sandhill Crane, female Goldfinch (I think), and a Mystery Bird  ;D.

I don't know what kind of prey Mr. had, but it definitely wasn't a fish.

Tonight, DNF is roosting on the lateral branch of the Ladder Branch.

Thanks Ginger  I've heard them squawk a lot on the Miss River.  Rather loud there; I frequently turn down the volume.  Sounded a bit weird yesterday.

Ginger - Thanks for listing all the different bird species from yesterday.  I didn't think that looked like a fish either.  It looked brownish and lumpy.

Lots going on this morning.  Mr. North joined DNF early on the nest for a bit.  She flew off to the Scary Tree while Mr. North hung out on the Ladder Branch.  Mr. North flew off to join DNF on the Scary Tree and then he flew off to perch downstream near the farm for a short while.  The two Sandhill Cranes vocalized as they took a stroll up the stream but then took flight across the pasture in front of the nest as a coyote approached.

Mr. North takes off from his perch downstream

I captured this one of DNF (I think) on the side part of the ladder branch around 4 am.

Lisa, I think it was MrN who spent the night on the ladder branch.  DNF flew in just about 7AM and they tiptoed around the nest for a few minutes before DNF flew off to the Scary Tree.

It was so great to see the Norths on the nest that I didn't look for more on the rewind!  Thanks Ginger for the bird list, and Lisa & Puff for the sandhill crane info.  With the new microphones, the sound is much enhanced.  The bull bellows even echo!
