A pair of Barred Owls were hooting at around 12:15 a.m. near N2B.  I love their calls even though I think some of them sound kinda scary.  :o  :D

Lisa, great pics of the eagle on the bluffs!

Ginger, neat video of the barred owls calls.  Were those the same ones that attacked the nest in the past?

NW -- Sometimes it's been barred owls (like in 2014) and sometimes great horned owls (like in 2015 when they tried to take over the nest).  Here's a video from 2014 of a barred owl harassing Mom.  Note the owl's call at 2:28.  That's the call that I find the scariest.

Lisa, help me get oriented to the bluffs where Mom & DM2 are perched now (noon-ish).  My map does not show which direction is North!  But I'm guessing the bluffs are to the East of the retention pond.  Is that correct?  If so, it looks like they are overseeing the dredging work!

Ginger, that was the first year I started watching the Decorah nest and like most 'newbies', I was up til the wee hours watching them most nights.  I saw that attack happen live and was so scared for Mom.  I believe that was the main topic in chat the next day.

Maybe Mom and DM2 are on the bluffs so Mom can reassure DM2 that all is okay and not to be spooked by the bipeds working down below!  ;D

When Ambassador Decorah was brought to the open area by the waterfall this year at ATF, I think it was Mom looking down from the bluffs.  I wonder if she was just curious, hearing another eagle's calls (he was a little nervous at first!) or if she recognized him as one of her own.  I know they're not supposed to after that much time has passed, but she stayed up there watching the whole time he was out.

RRP has a map on their website under the Decorah Eagles in the ABOUT THE DECORAH EAGLES section.  If you took the blue arrow and pointed it the area of the E & S (a lil more to the S), that would be the bluffs. 
I think BrokenLug has a good map of the area too, maybe he will share it.
