The Decorah Eagles will always have my heart. I cried just as hard when Dad died as I did when one of my family members passed. Decorah Mom is the best example of never giving up. She has been through the hardest of times yet she perseveres. I will never, ever forget her mournful cries as she waited for Dad to return. But she carried on with her heavy heart and did what she had to do for her family that remained. She has my respect and admiration forever. So, now, as eagles will do, they are building a new nest, which while it is hard to think we might not have a birdseye view of their everyday life, we do know that they are well and preparing for a new nesting season. We know where they are and ever get to see them from time to time. I am thankful for that! Watching the daily lives of our eagles has been a blessing to me when my life was lonely and when my life was bright. Chatting with my "eagle friends" is the icing on the cake. So I will stay devoted to the Decorah Eagles no matter what. They are my nest, my eagles and my favorite!

Ruby, ((HUGS)) and well said!

The following posts are from RRP's FB page. I gave up after 45 minutes of trying to copy and paste all of the news in one post. Kept getting error messages. But you should visit RRP's FB site to see Brett's eagle, read up on lead-free ammo, and see amazing eagle photos by TeamCarnes.

Five year-old D24 is spending time on the Turkey River southwest of Decorah, between Ridgeway and Protivin, not far from the site of his 2020 Valentine's Day airmail! It's no surprise D24 decided to stay, or at least return, since the river, floodplain, and farmland all combine to create excellent habitat for wintering eagles. Have D24 and four year-old sibling D27 crossed paths? The two are ranging through the same area, although D27 usually hangs out a little east of D24's present location. We hope he sends more postcards!

Meanwhile, D36 is southbound and down as of Friday, February 12! Brett's latest reading showed him just north of Columbus Crossing, not far from Lock and Dam 17. D27 spent a lot of time here in 2018, although she hasn't been this far south since. At the time, we wrote:
"We often talk about eagles wintering along the river, but I was still blown away by Lori's photos! Bald eagles are VERY social outside of their breeding grounds and congregating is part of the #staywarm strategy 'forage in groups'! Wherever D27 is today, you can be sure she's in good company." I included Lori's photos to show everyone what the area looks like!

No eagles this morning, but plenty of geese at the Retention Pond (spa). The view is on Highlights as I post.

Morning nest activity at Decorah - Mom brought nesting material, and DM2 brought in a log!
