Well, well, a Canada goose has been excavating at N2B.  Could it be for a nest up in the tree, or just for food?  I thought Canada geese nested on the ground, but perhaps not always.  BL, you are right that the goose could become lunch for an eagle!

Last year a Canada Geese pair took over an Osprey nest (I think maybe they got to the nest before the Osprey returned in the spring).  Here's a video of the goslings jumping from the nest so they could follow their parents to water.  (The parents entice them to leave the nest JUST 24 HOURS after hatching, and the parents lead them immediately to water. )

Well, I see I have missed all the excitement of a goose in the house this afternoon!

Ginger, I remember that from Charlo last season!  Those lil gosling had a long drop.

Thanks for the pics, everyone!!  :)

One of my fave wildlife moments was when the goslings jumped from their tree nest at Eaglecrest, with "Jump" by Van Halen playing in the background.

T40 - It looks like they are parachuting out of a plane when they jump off!   ;D

The other day there was a Canada goose perched on a tree branch at N2B.  Last time I checked CG have webbed feet.  Those feet are meant for paddling not perching.  What are the CG at Decorah drinking?  LOL

T40, thanks for the update on our sorely missed Decorah family.  Robin is truly their best friend!  Her dedication to them is evident, and her pictures are priceless.  And big thank you for the updates on D27 (LOVE that spunky gal!) and D36.  So happy to see them doing well and thriving.

BL, your take on what D27 is thinking was so cute!  Kind of funny how we've always been told they forget their natal nest not long after leaving, but yet they (especially D27) always seem to come so close to it, you'd swear they must be in a neighboring tree watching it!  So even though it's been 4 years since she fledged, she still seems to know where she came from.  It's nice to think she might end up with a family of her own in Decorah!  :-*

Lisa, Philjo, BL, T40 and STL - Thanks to all for the great pics!  I can't believe a Canadian Goose was in N2B!  Prime real estate for ANY winged creature, it seems.  :)

Ginger and T40, thanks for the video links of the goslings leap of faith!  Hard to believe they don't get hurt jumping that far with no wing assistance in the landing!  Cute as heck though!  ;D
