 :o look what i saw on rewind--about a third of the way in. It stays on the nest quite awhile calling to another owl, but when he's at the right side of the nest, I think I can hear a coyote howling as well ;)

Great pic Matisse!

Sounded like some commotion going on around 10:08 or so. Lot's of distant vocalizing, someone in distress or perhaps a food chase. Caught a glimpse of someone going by the retention pond.

It seems that every year the gho's come to the nest around this time, so it's not unusual. They do seek out old nests to settle in, but mom, old dad, and dm2 protect(ed) it well once egg season comes(came) around. Hopefully they keep this nest for themselves, but if they give it up, it would be interesting to observe the behaviors of owls ;)

this subadult has interesting coloration on his head--looks like a bandit with black still around eyes ;)

Great day for soaring. Could those birds with narrow-looking wings be vultures?

Might the sub-adult (masked) visitor have a broken feather in the right wing or tail? Looks out of place and tan colored.

I think what you're seeing is a broken off stub of a branch ;)

I wasn't watching the soaring so I can't say if they looked like vultures, however, vultures migrate for the winter so it's unlikely to be them.
