Beautiful capture, STLbf.

Thanks for the compliment. There's something about this North nest area that makes for beautiful air. Lucky shot, as all my good ones seem to be!  ;)

On rewind maybe an hour ago, MrN (I think) brought a live fish, DN12 aggressively snatched it and mantled with hollering, then subdued the floppy fish and proceeded to eat it. Way to go!

Wait, wait, it gets better today! First, DNF and DN12 tussle over fawn haunch. Then, DNF can stand on one foot and scratch its chin with the other. Betcha can't do that!

No photos this morning. Rewind to watch gory, closeup feeding of fawn head. It's all nature and nourishing for DN12.

About 9 AM on rewind today, DN12 strolls onto the nest patio (lower deck). Apparently did it yesterday also but I wasn't watching then. And I missed the flight practice, too. See on RRP Facebook. Watch the rewind today to see 12 come charging back to the nest when a fish gets delivered.

Then at 2 PM today, DN12 stepped onto the Babysitting Branch. At 4 PM, still there, cooling it. Does it count as branching if an eaglet walks onto a branch, or does it have to fly?

Rewind to about 10:00 AM today to see DN12 visit the lower nest rails, then flyhop back up to the nest. Some moments of good wingersizing with air time follow.  Still no real branching (fly up and back) that I have seen.

One year ago today, we were all a-twitter about early fledging because of black fly infestations at the DNN and Decorah N2B nests. Here are 3 screen photos of DN9 landing on the ground, running across the field, confronting a cow, and being safely rescued by RRP. I'm sure there are videos on YouTube and maybe Facebook.

We chatters/mods/cam-ops spent several long, long days and nights watching while RRP personnel and local volunteers searched and rescued and transported "our" eagles to SOAR, a wild bird rescue organization in Iowa.  Help me, I forget the correct name!

As we know, SOAR successfully treated, rehabilitated, and released the young eagles from both nests. DN9 turned out to be female. None of them was banded.

Let's hope for normal fledging later this month this year.

Did DN12 RRP officially 'Branch' today 06/08/20  ?

He/she, DN12, is 'out of egg' 70 days as of today.

As per RRP FB yesterday .. " Bald eagles commonly fledge between 75 and 81 days, which means we don't have very long to go! "

prt scr those nest cam pics while you can .. one good gust and poof another IA BE into the wild.   ;D ;D ;D 8) 8) 8)
