Around lunchtime on Thursday, JAN 9, DNF brought furry, gray prey to the nest. I'm guessing opossum from the bare tail and clawed foot -- see photo. Can someone confirm or correct my guess?

I think that might be a muskrat based on the paw! It isn't quite right for an opossum - the claws are a little long and the toes are very long and slender. The fur color is also more 'muskratty', although the tail is shorter than I would expect. Thanks for the awesome cap!

Thanks Amy for the probable correct identification of prey as muskrat. I should have labeled the tail and clawed feet in the photo.

Where I live, not real close to running water, I don't see muskrats. But I do see possums in my backyard. They are usually lighter gray. I'll Google muskrat to see the differences.

Love the "north" eagles, and the great work of the camera operators. It has been so interesting to watch the non-nesting time when there's less aggressive behavior about defending territory.

KRD - I check in from time to time and want to thank you for your wonderful screen shots and comments about this beautiful pair and their amazing nest.  Hoping for a great season for them.

A few sticks and some nest chores this morning.

This evening we had an adult intruder that tried to knock Mrs off the Love Tree, Mr chased it away.  You are a good Protector Mr.

imo, mr sitting on love branch, strange female flies in, with dnf in chase. mr not happy, moves to another tree. dnf flies towards strange female, trying to knock her off the love branch. dnf comes back again landing on branch above and in front of strange female. strange female flies off towards creek.

Mr took care of things.. they flew off I think to the stream tree. Later there was a lot of chatter, they may have returned to the Love Tree it is a full moon tonight they can see to fly. Something was definitely around whether Eagle or Owl it made the Norths very vocal.

Wonderful pics, monarch :)

I wonder what Mr. N & DNF will think of the SA re-arranging some sticks.
