Happy Mother's Day to DNF and all moms out there. Yes, I DIY'd the photo card.

The other photo is the "opossum" prey I posted on April 15. That identification has bothered me ever since, and now I'm 99% sure it was a nutria.  They do live in Iowa.   For more photos, go to LadagePhotography.com and scroll. The fur matches, the size matches, gotta be nutria.

How fast this eaglet is growing. Earlier this morning, a good tail stretch.

Thanks Lori and STLbf,  eaglet looks wonderful. I just hope the black flies stay away this year.  :)

Enjoy the great weather while you can, DN12. Hate to think of black flies.   :o

DN12 looks so confident and accomplished walking around and moving nest material! Thank you for the pictures!

Raptor Resource Project
16 mins ?

The Raptor Resource Project is sorry to announce that we are canceling our After The Fledge (ATF) party this year. We waited, deliberated, and agonized over the decision. We like ATF. We like seeing all of you! We like getting together in Decorah to celebrate our eagles.

Unfortunately, current summer projections for Covid-19 do not look good. Minnesota projects that Covid-19 cases may be peaking in the middle of July. Iowa is not Minnesota and a lot of you are coming from elsewhere, but we just can't justify holding ATF given what we know, or think we know, about the virus.

We apologize deeply to all of our fans and followers. We were so looking forward to seeing you. We will still be holding an auction and are looking at ways to celebrate our eagles virtually. Thank you so much for all your support and for everything you do: for watching, sharing, learning, and especially for caring.

I'm not going to recommend that everyone read this link because the subject is so unpleasant. But if you would like to learn more about Minnesota's projections, how and why they were developed, and why we made the decision we did, click here: https://www.mprnews.org/?/a-look-inside-at-minnesotas-covid?.

Only within the moment of time represented by the present century has one species -- man -- acquired significant power to alter the nature of the world.

Anyone have better pictures of the fawn parts (two connected legs) brought to the nest yesterday morning? Today it appeared that one of the Norths brought another leg section, perhaps from the same animal. Possibly a road kill or coyote kill that the eagles scavenged. Just guessing about the source.

STL......I have this one from last year with a fawn head being brought in. I hope everyone caught the show Eagle Power last night on PBS. It highlighted the Decorah nest with D32 and D33. Sadly they left out our little DN9. I don't know if I can stand to watch this year if the black flies swarm again.

Raleigh -- Yes, I have the fawn from last year also. The prey variety on this North nest is much wider than the Decorahs. Some days, not for the faint of heart! Or watching at lunchtime.   :o

Looks like gnats or some such have started today with both DNF or MrN and DN12 twitching and scratching. Wet and cool weather maybe to blame. Watch and wait for successful fledge in another month or so. And pray.

Another fawn leg mid-afternoon. DN12 jumped on it and mantled and hollered. Also serious flapping and jumping. So many skills developing so fast.

Saturday morning on rewind, DNF brought a dead raptor to the nest. It's upside down in the screen cap, but comparing legs, talons, and beak to public domain photos on the website, Raptors of Iowa, I'm thinking a red-shouldered hawk. What do all you expert birders think? Probably road kill?
