January 2, 2020

It started before the sun came up. But the sunrise was very pretty.

We had a Red Tailed Hawk come to rest on the Pasture Branch.

It was a very entertaining day today watching them.

Mrs brought 9 sticks, Mr brought 6...

Mrs brought 1 hay,  Mr brought 2 hay..

Mr and Mrs both brought a stick in their beak

Mr brought one in with one talon

One of them I didn't realize Mr could do it but he did..they both moved it together.

I watched as Mrs hung from a branch on the stream tree as she broke it off, flew to the right of the nest and had to rest a moment, at that point. It either got lodged or she lost it but decided to break another and brought it in.

As the Camera Operator was following Mrs with the stick Mr flew in with hay.

I really enjoy watching these two in their daily life, this truly is an amazing nest.  You can't see the work that goes into collecting the sticks and the process at other nests.

They fly into them to snap them off, they hang from them and flap until it breaks, or they find a good one and bounce on it until it lets go, it really is amazing to see.

I hope I haven't bored you.  I have some good shots to share.

the
Thank you, KR! I enjoyed reading your descriptions!

I really Love these two.

Mrs was the first one in and she brought a rabbit, she ate quite a bit before Mr showed up.  Mr played it pretty cool for awhile then took a chance at the nestovers, but Mrs said no way and squeed quite loudly at him.

She then decided she could not trust him so decided to move it to the edge while he did some fluffing.

She guarded it with one eye while watching Mr with the other.  Unfortunately for her she brought it back to the bole area close to Mr.  He kept eyeing it ever so sneakily and Mrs didn't seem to notice....Until lol

Mr was so slick at getting close to that rabbit it was funny, he finally got his foot on it and when Mrs disagreed with a squee he hid it under him and did a nice mantle before taking it to the Love tree to enjoy.
I took many shot in sequence so you can see, maybe someone got a video.

Have you ever noticed when Mr is in the nest and there is a lot of fluff he checks to see just how soft it is by footing it, if he doesn't think it is soft enough he will fluff up some more then check it to see if feels right while laying on it.

Today we had 1 stick,1 stalk, 2 hay, both checked the bole and both Mr and Mrs did some digging to make it deeper.
