The RoyalCam is a collaboration between the New Zealand Department of Conservation and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. To learn more while watching, view the cam at

or at https://allaboutbirds.org/cams

*******************************
Royal Cam is a 24-hour live stream of a Northern Royal Albatross nest during the breeding season at Pukekura/Taiaroa Head on the southeast tip of New Zealand's South Island.

The season of 2019/2020 has seen the Royal Cam once again move up the hill. Now at Top Flat Track our new pair is OGK (banded Orange, Green, Black) a 21 year old male and YRK (banded Yellow, Red, Black) and 25 year old female. YRK laid the egg on 14 November 2019.

This season the live stream has partnered with Cornell Bird Lab. There are some new features including a trial of night vision and the ability to pan the camera at the rangers discretion.

Northern Royal Albatross New Zealand South Island Cornell Labs

Royal Cam Albatross ~ Beautiful Close-Ups Of The Tubenose! DOC Ranger Check Up On Egg! 12.28.19
https://youtu.be/T-_mfAOZ7xQ via ladyhawk
Stunning closeups of the male albatross OGK!!

The albatross spend most of their time at sea and only come in to land to breed. They are called tubenoses because of the pair of tubular nostrils on their hooked bills. They have long, narrow wings and webbed feet. They lay only one egg and both parents care for and feed the chick.

Today, we had a DOC ranger check up on the egg. The albatross are very docile and allow the rangers to handle their eggs easily. The NZ conservation program looks after the world's only mainland albatross colony!! The goal is successfully fledge as many chicks as is possible! Thank you for watching!

Albatross Kyra & Oliver, PIP waiting for hatch off site ❤️❤️❤️

Albatross Love (2020.01.30) - Royal Albatross Cam - NZ Dept of Conservation - Cornell Lab
https://youtu.be/F_u-Rhy35ro via holly

At the beginning of the video, YRK (Kyra, the female) is incubating the dummy egg and announcing the arrival of OGK (Oliver, her mate). Their reunion after his multi-day absence is so incredibly sweet! By the end of the video, OGK has taken over nest duties. Background: The egg has pipped and been taken to an incubator for an environment free of the threat of flystrike during the hatching process. The hatched chick will be returned to the parents as soon as possible.
