10.30 am  Buffy likes to sit on top of the box
AU came in briefly then left
10.50 am she left too

4 falcons want this nestbox
March 8  -  Daylight time
6 am edt  Fat falcon peeping atop box
6.30  She came down on ledge, peeping - I dont see another bird
6.45  off she flies
7.22  AU arrives on ledge peeping - hops inside but its black as night
7.30  both arrive, one ledge one box
8.30  Lotta flyin in n out
8.40  Both on top of box
10.30  She is in the box, on the floor, then ledge - appears to be kakking
WISH WE HAD SOUND!  If so, 2 females are scrapping for this box
I see falcons flying outside - maybe competing with that helicopter  :)

1.30 pm  Banded falcon on box - down to ledge - peeping -
at least 2 other falcons flying - are there 4 out there???

bev did a video
https://youtu.be/QCrkly7X5aA

March 9
5 am  EWW!  BIG spider!
7.15  Enter AU to floor then boxtop, favoring RIGHT leg, I thot he favored it yesterday too
( bird has bands, hopefully our AU )
7.25  female flies in and enters box, then leaves

The confusion begins
Evidently the banded female won the fight and the nestbox - but not AU
Stay tuned

March 9

The confusion begins
Evidently the banded female won the fight and the nestbox - but not AU
Stay tuned

12.40 pm  Bandy fem in box peeping, AU (probly) on ledge ignoring her
She goes to ledge - he ignores her .. now this is almost funny ..
1 pm  Bandy goes to the floor .. finally she flies away.
NOW WHAT
O nuts, Bandy returned

1.30 pm 2 other falcons doing sky passes - this pair still on ledge
2 pm  Falcon in box B/G - nobands on ledge, face off, both leave
B/G returned and must have knocked the cam askew - cant see inside box
She is now on ledge kakking

Is the male AU now with the 2019 banded female?

Virginia DGIF
MARCH 10TH, 2020
The new, banded bird can no longer be considered an intruder, as she has established herself as the new female of the pair ? at least for the time being.

March 19
7.20 am  Della in box, pebbling ...  looks promising ....
11.50 am  BOTH inside box with prey - too much distortion for pic

March 17
4 am  Falcon sits at far end of ledge  (shudder!)
6.50 am  Both arrive together, go in box, male leaves, Della peeps on ledge
8:15  Both inside box again

New Female Continues to Bond with Male
March 20, 2020

Ever since 95/AK established herself as the new female of the pair, she and banded male (24/AU) have regularly been seen courting.  We have observed multiple instances of courtship feeding, with the male bringing prey to the female.  We have also seen head-low bow courtship displays between the pair at the box.

First Egg
This marks the first egg laid at this site since 2017
APRIL 2, 2020

The female has presented as increasingly lethargic on camera over the past several days, a sign of an upcoming egg laying event. She finally laid her first egg in the early evening of April 2. This marks the first egg laid at this site since 2017, and the first egg ever laid by this particular female. Although we do not yet know how many more eggs she will produce, the average clutch size for peregrine falcons in Virginia consists of 4 eggs. Eggs are laid at intervals of 48 to 72 hrs

Seemed like she was in labor 3 days!
