Fledgling Red-tailed Hawk Returns Home, Perches On Nest Railing
June 9, 2022 -  L2 is back! After spending its first night away from the nest, the fledgling flew home for some more close-ups with the camera.  Fledglings have returned to their natal site in past seasons, but they usually don't stay for long. We'll enjoy it while we can.

With 2 on the roof across the street,
Baby can eat by himself, Mom doesnt need to feed him

The older 2 fly in and out at will, practicing their flight skills

What a GREAT set of parents - and fun hawkletts

Cornell University Red Tail Hawk Cam Ithaca, NY home of Arthur, Big Red and little ones L1, L2 and L3

L1, Oh my gosh is that a camera?

L1 showing off some slick moves  ;D

Curious Red-tailed Hawk nestling "L1" alights on the railing of the nest platform and "tip-talons" towards the cam for a close-up that keeps on giving! All eyes are on the soon-to-be fledgling while it feels the wind beneath its wings, flaps with reckless abandon, and eyeballs the camera for one of the cutest close-ups in Cornell Hawks history.
At 47 days old, L1 is certainly acting like it's ready to take flight. Be there when it happens! Watch live at allaboutbirds.org/cornellhawks

Third Fledge "L3" Takes Flight
June 13, 2022   Nestling "L3" became the third young hawk to fledge from the nest, with a confident first flight from the railing off across Tower Road. Watch as L3 hops up to the railing, takes in the view, then watches as a sibling divebombs out of the nest just moments before L3 makes the jump as well. Only one nestling remains, the last to hatch: L4

Update on the Cornell RTH juvies.
L2 and L4 are doing well, so far.
Unfortunately, L3 suffered a fractured coracoid and is being cared for
L1 was found deceased a few days ago, probably a building strike.

Shep, I'm so sorry to read the bad news.  Hope that L3 can recover and glad to hear that two are doing well.  Thanks for the update.

BABY HAWK
Aug 1, 2022 post on bcaw

On the night of July 31, a young Red-tailed Hawk was found on the ground near Cornell Universitys unable to fly, and it was quickly shuttled to rehab for treatment. The following morning, the fledgling was identified as L4 by local birders on the ground.

Upon initial evaluation, L4 is doing well and seems alert, stable, and standing without issues. A further diagnosis is needed to determine if L4 suffered any injuries that will need further treatment or rehabilitation. We will be sure to update the community on L4’s condition as soon as we know more.

Throughout the history of the Cornell Hawks nest, the staff at the Janet L. Swanson Wildlife Hospital has provided invaluable support and care for the fledglings. We are immensely grateful for their dedicated team for immediately attending to L4, and for continuing to support the recovery and rehabilitation of fledgling L3 after suffering a shoulder injury in late July.
