April 21, 2019   Easter Sonday
6.30 am  Diana flew off and returned with a blackbird
2 of the chicks were actually fighting while she was gone
She rips it apart, eats some (she has to be HONGRY)
4 babies VERY eager for food - 2 girls 2 boys!
I am pleased all 4 chicks got their beeks in the air!

The girls beeks are BIG and WIDE and OPEN!
Little and Tiny tend to get held down
Plucky little Tiny falls down a lot but gets up.
Little is always underneath the other 3
Big Mouth must be female and gets most food

Diana is ripping the birds fast as she can, feathers flying!
She is a wonderful Mom considering her plight

9 am  She went to get that bird again
She fed Tiny first, and he fell over
All 4 have beeks up

I see flocks of birds fly thru from time to time. Hunting is good!

10.09 am  A bird just landed on the rungs, she got up, it left -
 -  too fast - I dont know what kinda bird!
Diana flew after it - male or meal I dunno  *wink*
  I didnt see her return

12.13 pm  She's away
1.30 pm  She returns with juicy prey
The 2 girls got stuffed first, I was concerned,
 - but finally the 2 boys got up and ate too. whew!

She was gone a long time - and I wanna nap!
I've heard a lone female will fly around and display to attract a mate.
I wonder if she is doing that today.

Another falcon landed on rung briefly, left when Diana got up

Afternoon feeding

The Amazing Falconess
She laid 4 eggs, then lost her mate.
She found another teenage male around hatch time.
After teaching him what was expected, it was too much for him
 - he may have flown off with another girlfriend, we dont know.
After suffering being alone with 4 tiny kids to feed for a couple days,
 - she set about to raise these babies as a single mother.
Carefully she fed her kids, being sure each got bites.
And they grew
 -  And they grew
 - -  And they GREW

She reminds me of The Little Red Hen!

I thot I'd write a semi-ficticious story

Ky update

Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources confirmed Diana?s first mate -- an unbanded male falcon ? disappeared and a new banded male began occupying the territory.  We were unsure the eggs would hatch because the new male didn?t share incubation duties with Diana. But despite less time being incubated, all four eggs hatched by April 18.

A few days later, our Mill Creek staff located the new male on the ground with an injured wing. They notified KDWFR officials and making arrangements to have the falcon transferred to a local wildlife rehabilitator where it?s receiving proper veterinary care.

KDFWR is closely monitoring the health and progress of Diana and the chicks as they continue to grow.  The chicks have about a month before they learn to fly, but if any female falcon?s proven to be up for the challenge of raising them, it?s Diana.

Well thats sad for Ky but I am glad we know
