Much has happened since DN9 was rescued and taken to SOAR, along with the discovery that DN9 is a female, so it is time to update the Ballad of DN9. I am not surprised that our feisty DN9 was the ring leader as the 4 hatch-year eaglets flew off into the wild.
Ballad of DN9
Sung to the tune of Davy Crockett
Hatched in Iowa (not Tennessee)
In an oak tree nest where the eagles are free,
Raised in a field so she knew ev'ry tree,
Ate lots of bones and loved to squee.
DN, DN9, Queen of the Wild Frontier!
Fell from a branch before she could fly,
Met a big cow walking near the creekside,
Mr. and DNF perched nearby,
Until she was rescued from the nasty black flies.
SOAR, SOAR Rehab, fed her meat with electrolytes!
From the measurement of her beak
SOAR said DN9 was a she,
Placed in the eaglet nursery,
Where she met Calmar and Allamakee
DN, DN9, her talon was painted teal!
DN9 left the nursery
Moved to a flight pen with D33
Flying with Calmar and Allamakee
SOAR will give them a soft release.
DN, DN9, Queen of the Wild Frontier!
The hatch-year eaglets moved again,
Together in the 100 ft. flight pen
Where they practiced so-cial-i-za-tion,
Catching fish in the water with eaglet friends.
DN, DN9, Queen of the Wild Frontier!
The cameras were ready on 9-18
And release window open without a screen.
DN9 was the first to explore,
She flew the coop and was ready to soar.
DN, DN9, flying free in the Wild Frontier!
