Nice Being Ignored - UPDATE March 7, 2025

Dr. Lynn Rogers with Pine Siskins

For weeks I’ve tried to take pictures of the hundreds of pine siskins that cover the second floor deck, branches nearby, treetops around yard, and especially the little roof that is their favorite feeding area. I’d stand very still back away from the window waiting for the right shot, but any movement turned them into a cloud of wings. A few days ago, I stood in plain view by the glass door. Fast motion made them fly. Slow motion didn’t. I slowly opened the door. They didn’t fly if I stood still. I found if I move slowly I could move among them. I went to the little roof that holds more than a hundred of them.

A couple days ago Donna took a picture of me being ignored while the siskins focused on the food as long as I made no fast moves. It was an enjoyable time. Also, they seem to know that someone who comes out that door is bearing food and they start dropping from the tall trees to nearby branches and the rooftop and even flocking to the deck and other areas that have food. Walking slowly back inside I can step just inches from those on the deck with some flying and others ignoring my proximity. They gave me a whole new view of them. They fly quickly if a squirrel moves quickly, if a blue jay sails in, or if the eagle, a raven, a crow, or a hawk comes through. If a squirrel just stays in one place eating the seeds, the siskins gradually move in within inches.

Thank you for all you do,
Lynn Rogers, Biologist, Wildlife Research Institute and North American Be

hi joho i would like to have a neighbor text me tell me mail came walmart i tells you i ordered stuff a month ago and they said looks like your order got lost  saw some of the news now trump will cost auto workers their jobs along with all the others. when this country is way in the hole and people might be fighting back will he get impeached? poor ukraine russia having a field day on them now cause trump opened that door

hi paulie jim bought this pump and yesterday he put it in the barn it is behind that big a gate we pushed back years ago we had to separate area for two horses lost pearl got indy so pushed it back give indy lots more room. he will be an only child. hooked a hose to part draining out and he dug under the barn wall ran it under that and out into the pasture other hose on pump to suck out the water. and the end of that has a deal like a sweeper he sucked out that water that was standing in this area there are more areas he can pull that sweeper part out and lay it in where it needs to be. he also dug a big hole back behind that gate hoping that is where the water goes in the first place then can suck it out he is going out of town end of this month for a week saying i can do that well i cant get inside there you have to climb over wooden boards we have at that front of there. no problem climbing over that in the past but with no knee working i cant lift my leg over and swing it out and get to the other side. i can do it from inside where indy is just cant move that sweeper way out i dont think.   just getting a new knee i dont think it will auto work right then maybe i think i will have to do pt get my muscles built up hope i will be on antibiotics like dr foster oral surgeon does me when i get a new implant for new tooth so my body will not reject it. does that make sense?

5:21 Thanks for the post Cal.
Sad about Ukraine.  So valiant and now to be essentially betrayed and deserted by their strongest ally, us.
I am ashamed, and I hate it.  I have always been so proud of this country.
I am truly blessed to live like I do.  Thank you God for my friends and family.  Especially for my health.  The young daughter of my Goddaughter has been in and out of the hospital for the past few weeks, because she has blockages in her carotid arteries.  Her name is Deanna, and I am asking for prayer for recovery and a long comfortable life.  She is only about 30 years old.  So young and vibrant a person to be suffering from circulatory problems.  They have put in at least four stents so far.  Next they say she will be in a rehab facility for a while. I'm not sure why. It is hard for her, because she is being treated in Ohio, but her Mom lives and works in Texas.
I am glad for Doc that he has finally figured out how to get the trust of his little feathered friends.  Seeing those birds eating out of his hand and on his shoulders is really remarkable.  Donna must be patient too.  Since the birds let her take their picture on Doc.  I love the way he tells his story.  Sometimes I feel like can hear the flutter of wingbeats as I read how they react to his various movements in his story.
Sounds  like progress in your barn flooding. Good!  You will be surprised, Cal, how much more you will be able to do with your new knee.
Not much to see on the animal cams right now, but that is good news during nesting season.
Bye for now EV1 GBU and GB Ukraine.

I love that Bassett Hound. LOL Your computer did a good job.  You did too.  I could just see that mule doing all that bounding and rolling around and teasing you both to catch me if you can.  I have read stories about animals celebrating like that after a long winter.
I too have lately been reminiscing through old albums.  Lots of wonderful memories. Everybody was so beautiful!!!!
Today I was watching PBS.  All Creatures Great and Small behind the scenes with the real life people the book was based on.  What a treat.
See you tomorrow EV1 GBU.  Still need prayers for Breanna, and now for Debbie too.  Debbie has come down with a very bad cold today.  She needs to be well tomorrow for her grandchildren.

hi you guys its 38 and clear 10 partly cloudy in longyear 43 and cloudy in ice 49 in the barn i saw new prime minister for canada and read this

Canada's ruling Liberals elected a new party leader in Ottawa, Ontario, on Sunday who will serve as the nation's next prime minister, replacing outgoing premier Justin Trudeau.

Why it matters: Liberal Party members' vote for Mark Carney, former governor of the Banks of Canada and England, comes as the Liberals are experiencing a polling boost amid widespread opposition to President Trump's U.S. policies targeting its northern neighbor.

Little more than 150,000 Canadians chose who the country's new leader would be as the leadership was decided in a vote by Liberal Party members who registered and were verified to vote.
What they're saying: "These are dark days brought on by a country we can no longer trust," Carney said, in reference to U.S. tariffs after the 59-year-old won 85.9% of the vote to be elected Liberal Party leader.

Carney vowed to stand up to Trump over the tariffs. "America is not Canada. And Canada never, ever, will be part of America in any way, shape or form," Carney said.
"We didn't ask for this fight, but Canadians are always ready when someone else drops the gloves."

of course trump saying these tariffs best thing america has ever done.. puke

hi joho hope breanna and debbie get better.  i am back on my old computer it seems to be doing better this morning

6:59 to see 10 happy trekkers.  I did it twice already.  Somehow my score goes away if I leave the screen for a while.   My day looks good now, but the weather note says," temps to plummet".
Thanks Cal for taking the time to post each day.  You help me and Debbie get off to a good start each day with the dog shame.  I have looked at several cams already.  The pantry food is out in the troughs.  They start early there.  Not many deer when I looked in, but I will watch them through the day.   Lots will come.  The eagle chicks were doing well yesterday.  Chick  No. 3 in Big Bear is struggling to get food.  Needs prayers I think.

5:03 It pays to be rested.  I got up at 11.  Debbie and Nick had been calling me for hours to get Nick home from school.  He has the flu they say.  I gotta go see Dr Pham foot guy at 1:25 so I will be jumping off here soon.
Well Cal, You might have a stylish zipper in the front of your knee, but again it is a small price for the ability to walk and carry things and go up steps and hills.
Our paper says Trump thinks Putin is right to take land.  "Governor" Trudeau does not agree.

i read this just nowPolitics·NATO
Musk calls on US to quit NATO, stop paying for defense of Europe now who in the heck does musk think he is why would his opinion matter on nato

Is Elon Musk a Natural-Born U.S. Citizen?
No, Elon Musk is not a natural-born American citizen. He was born on June 28, 1971, in Pretoria, South Africa. His mother, Maye Musk, is Canadian, which allowed him to obtain Canadian citizenship in 1989. He moved to Canada at age 17 to study at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 on an Exchange Visitor Visa, according to NorthJersey.com.

Because Musk was not born in the U.S., he is ineligible to run for U.S. president, as the Constitution requires natural-born citizenship for presidential candidates

Cal, you are not John.  You are like me and a many other elderly people. 90% of which need knee or other joint surgery.  So you will be fine or if I am wrong you can give me he double hockey sticks. LOL I still try to park next to a cart.  The cart helps a lot.  I too get the notice that mail has been delivered.  The thing is I get it way after my neighbor, Denise, tells me mail is in.  Sometimes i get USPS email the next day. LOL Thanks A Lot.  I do get the email about what is on the way though.  That is nice too.
Today I went to the mailbox on my way to the foot doctor.  I did mail two items, but when I went to open my in box I could not find the key.  Later I found the key in my pocket of the jeans I had thrown into the wash basket.  I put it back on my car keys for the Summer.  I am very glad I found it, and did not have to deal with the post office.
Now if you will excuse me I will go get my mail. LOL I will take my bike.

Foot doctor says I will need surgery to correct a new hammer toe.  He would have done right there and then If I wanted him to.  Instead I asked to wait a while.  It has just started to hurt. So I can still walk all right.  I will wait until it gets an ulcer on the tip.  He was alarmed about some reddish blotches on the bottoms of both feet.  He had a name for it.  Said it was due to circulation deficiency when feet get cold.  I could not see them with the mirror so he took a picture with his phone and showed me. Did not look bad to me.  Anyway nothing to be done until maybe next appointment in 3 months.
This evening I went for milk at Drugmart.  I tested my blood pressure while there.  It was 148 over 83.  So not too bad for me.  When I got home I wanted to do, or check, something on my phone, but could not find it.  HOLY COW!!!! Where is it???? I NEEDS IT!!!
Well I remembered laying it on a little shelf so I would not drop it while taking off my shirt. Then I sat down to test my pressure.  Well I'll tell you I was heavy on the gas while I raced all the way back to Drugmart and practically ran until I got to the test bench.  There it was. Thank you God!
I got a very good look at both parents in the Big Bear nest feeding fish to the three bobbleheads.  All is well there for now.
Big raccoon on snow right now.  Eagles are all sleeping, and deer at the Pantry are still feeding. just FYI
Gotta go sleep now. GBU EV1
