Last night, two minutes before shooting hours ended, a shot from across the street rattled the windows. We eventually learned that it was not a bear we know. A few new bears have shown up. Lucky and log

Many familiar ones have left. We continue to monitor Lily where she is. We didn?t hear a shot all day, but that doesn?t account for archers.
At the Bear Center, Lucky played with a log in front of the rock den he shared with Honey back some 8 years ago.

Holly is an action bear. The picture shows her on top of the den she may be choosing, but she could always change her mind and hibernate with Lucky as last year. As nice as that seemed for them, I don?t know how she could do different this year. We?ll see. Here are words from Curator Sharon Herrell:
?The staff has been watching Holly's travels to see where and how much time she is spending in any of the dens.
It seems she has chosen her 2014 rock den. She made it bigger and better.
The opening is 2 ft. high, as is the mound den. The interior is 2 feet high as is the mound den. The mound den is 55 inches from front to back but from the denning area it is 48 inches, the same as the rock den. The difference is the rock den is 48 inches wide while the mound den is 24 inches wide.
Holly has not recently dug at the mound den for several days. We wondered where she was spending so much time in the last weeks.
Heidi and Scott found 2 areas that had fresh digs. One behind the bunkers and one near the cabin under the large stump. That one may have been able to connect with the 2015 den she dug near the cabin but she abandoned the digging of that one also.
The question is will she den in the rock den? I think only Holly will answer that.

Now to throw yet another den into the mix; she was checking out both the small and large bunkers today. Will Holly decide to move into one of the bunkers?
Our staff plan is to prepare all the dens next week-end for winter. It may be at that time that Holly may make a clear attempt at what her denning preferences for winter will be. The picture is of Holly on top of her rock den.
In the meantime Tasha swam twice today and during the 1:00 enrichment Tasha clearly wanted to come into the viewing area but was leery of approaching while Lucky and Holly enjoyed their toys. Holly was aware of Tasha and watched her. Tasha was also aware of Holly and kept her distance. Thank-you for sending texts and pictures. It is always a help to me.?
Thank you for all you do.
