One-eyed Jack came visiting.

It is Friday and I am feeling on the up side.  I hope all Jewelies are, too.  Nothing much has been going on down here in the lower part of the country.  Comfortable weathe, in the eighties.  3 Zika cases reported in the Florida Keys but they won't say where so we do not know if any are in Key West.  Definitely quite a few in the Miami area.

I send all this thought.

We are not supposed to talk politics here so I won't say whether I voted for the refrigerator, or not, but I spent 6:19 considering it.

Rues I wish I could send you this rain, it's been raining all morning and doesn't look to quit anytime soon.  :(  It's 62 with thunderstorms.  It was sure great sleeping last night.

Glad you're feeling "up" today JP!  It's funny how days of the week can affect us sometimes even when not working too  :D

That's too bad about the vet's cat Cal.  One thing, a cat living at a vet clinic probably gets great care.  Hi back to sister.  Gee I thought for a minute you were going to cause some road rage girl!   ;)

Guess I better go "vote".  Thanks for puzzles and dog shames.

Hope is the bear today.

Time is just racing by as here we are to another Saturday.  I was up late last night watching the Marlins beat the Dodgers.

I wish for all of you a nice day.

Daily Updates
Holly, Lucky, Quiet WRI - UPDATE September 9, 2016
09 September 2016
Print Email
Last night, two minutes before shooting hours ended, a shot from across the street rattled the windows. We eventually learned that it was not a bear we know. A few new bears have shown up. Lucky and log
Lucky and log
Many familiar ones have left. We continue to monitor Lily where she is. We didn?t hear a shot all day, but that doesn?t account for archers.

At the Bear Center, Lucky played with a log in front of the rock den he shared with Honey back some 8 years ago.

Holly is an action bear. The picture shows her on top of the den she may be choosing, but she could always change her mind and hibernate with Lucky as last year. As nice as that seemed for them, I don?t know how she could do different this year. We?ll see. Here are words from Curator Sharon Herrell:

?The staff has been watching Holly's travels to see where and how much time she is spending in any of the dens.

It seems she has chosen her 2014 rock den. She made it bigger and better.

The opening is 2 ft. high, as is the mound den. The interior is 2 feet high as is the mound den. The mound den is 55 inches from front to back but from the denning area it is 48 inches, the same as the rock den. The difference is the rock den is 48 inches wide while the mound den is 24 inches wide.

Holly has not recently dug at the mound den for several days. We wondered where she was spending so much time in the last weeks.

Heidi and Scott found 2 areas that had fresh digs. One behind the bunkers and one near the cabin under the large stump. That one may have been able to connect with the 2015 den she dug near the cabin but she abandoned the digging of that one also.

The question is will she den in the rock den? I think only Holly will answer that.

Holly on den
Holly on rock den
Now to throw yet another den into the mix; she was checking out both the small and large bunkers today. Will Holly decide to move into one of the bunkers?

Our staff plan is to prepare all the dens next week-end for winter. It may be at that time that Holly may make a clear attempt at what her denning preferences for winter will be. The picture is of Holly on top of her rock den.

In the meantime Tasha swam twice today and during the 1:00 enrichment Tasha clearly wanted to come into the viewing area but was leery of approaching while Lucky and Holly enjoyed their toys. Holly was aware of Tasha and watched her. Tasha was also aware of Holly and kept her distance. Thank-you for sending texts and pictures. It is always a help to me.?

Thank you for all you do.

good morning Jewelies

It is kind of early for me today.  I had a wonderful sleep last night for the first time in a LONG time, but that was thanks to two little pills of Ativan.  Only the sound of Bonnie barking this morning as though the thousands of Syrian refugees were climbing over our gate and about to scale the walls of her home; well I could not avoid waking up for that.

For everyone and especially Cal I found this:

I will go an get my first cup of goodness and let that sink in, then read over the last couple of days worth of greetings from you all and set down to let you know how well my procrastination is doing   NOT  ;D

Hi Cal, my Hyacinth was the same one they aired a couple weeks ago...Hyacinth has invited the new vicar to tea and light refreshments and Rose wants to commit suicide and be buried in mummy's wedding dress! Is the show you mentioned Last of the Summer Wine? If so, it is the longest running sit com. It's about these old guys and what they get into! Beautiful Yorkshire countryside scenery. I'd like to see the Cafe come back on, too!  Still no rain here. Last night it came near the river and then drifted north. There is a small chance this evening. Marietta, OH, up the river 10 miles, is celebrating their Sternwheel Festival this weekend. They always have the best fireworks display on Sat evening so that's probably when it will rain! I don't know if we are going or not. My sis will probably call this afternoon and ask if I want to go. Next weekend I'm going with sis and Sandy to the mountains to take an 8 hour round trip train ride! They say we could see some Eagles! Oh, I hope so! Doubt that many of the tree leaves have started to change yet. That would be really pretty but I think we are a couple weeks to early for that. We are leaving on Friday stopping at the Mountain State arts and crafts festival and then on to the mountains. I'm actually going to stay in a motel for 2 nights, Friday and Sat! It's been several years since I did that! We'll be back sometime Sunday. I can't wait. My luck, that's when all the rain will come! Lol! Crow says not to worry about anything here, he can handle it! Hope Molly doesn't refuse to eat since I won't be here. Crow says she'll be all right. We'll see. My dryer just buzzed ...be back later!

It's 60 at 12:30, partly cloudy, and breezy!  PERFECT!  :)

That is such a great picture of Hope.  I know the aren't snuggly creatures, but I just want to hug them.  :D

Lucky looks so happy playing with that log, even smiling.

It's amazing an animal that size can go through a 2 foot high opening.

Eaglette loved your description of how Bonnie was barking  :D  Wow that's good to know on the EpiPen substitute!  I don't need them, but for people that do if they live anywhere near a Costco.  That would be the problem around here.

Rues, if Molly is hungry she WILL eat.  Unless there is a medical reason she HAS to have each meal on time she won't let herself starve.  :)  I hope that didn't sound cold, I didn't mean it to.  That's what I was always told and yep, sooner or later whoever would eat if they weren't.  As long as I knew it wasn't because whoever was sick I just let it sit there.  That was dry food though.  That sounds like a wonderful weekend whether the leave have turned or not, but that would be a nice plus.

Guess I better go check out the puzzle..........I waited for more toilet paper for 4:06 minutes (51-piece crazy)

It took me 4:26 to reroll the tp.  I had a dog that did that with tp when we left him alone in the house.  We used to have to take the rolls off the roller when we left.

Here's a fine old fellow.  Guy

The rain is really coming down this morning.  Lots of thunderstorms in the area.

Only 10 days left in Summer.  May they pass pleasantly for all.  Hopes, too,  for everyone to have a great Sunday.

Daily Updates
Tasha, Lucky, Lily, Bear Food - UPDATE September 10, 2016

Curator Sharon Herrell wrote:

?This morning Tasha was released into the big enclosure. She was anxious for Holly to come out and play. Holly, just stayed in the cabin den until we enticed her out with some food.Lucky, Holly and Tasha

Tasha, in the meantime sat behind Ted's den watching him. She has been caught on virtual camera checking him out as he sleeps near her fence. She has also been resting near the same fence as Ted sleeps.

The noon Behind-The-Scenes had just finished when Holly pushed Lucky and a brief argument started. We gave each bear treats and then something pretty cool happened. Tasha walked to the top of the mound and very carefully watched both bears. Gregg threw Tasha peanuts. Tasha very cautiously ate the peanuts coming just a little closer to Holly. Holly moved to reposition herself and Tasha charged off but returned to eat. We watched for about 4 minutes until Tasha ran off. During the 2:00 Behind-The-Scenes, Holly was sitting in Tasha's den waiting for us. Tasha was also in her den near the bear gate. That is where we feed her. The report from the mods was that they had been in there playing. Its been 96 days since Tasha's arrival on the evening of June 6. She is doing a great job.?

Hairy woodpecker

Out in the woods, Lily might have headed for a den. She has been seen regularly, but not last night. Could she den this early? Four years ago, she went to her brush pile den on September 10. Lily might be right on schedule. She was in a pretty safe area, so we don?t think anything befell her.

Blue jay
Blue jay
In the community, fewer bears are being seen. No pregnant females are being seen anymore. We don?t know of any big males being taken, so their disappearance is probably just that it is time for them to move to their dens for some pre-denning work and to drop into deeper lethargy at the den. Some of them were already pretty low on energy when they were here. We believe Summer?s beautiful 2-year-old son Sven was taken, but we don?t know of any other bears we are familiar with being taken, although we are still wondering about Summer?s other 2-year-old son Spot. Both were/are nice bears that leave good memories. Overall, not as bad as we feared?with a week of suspense to go. Grouse season opens on the 17th , which is when bear-hunting typically slacks off around here although there is still a month of open season left at that point. No shots heard today.

Out the window, with fewer bears there was more food for birds to share. Blue Jays carry nuts off in their bills, while Hairy Woodpeckers find a handy crevice to hold a nut while they peck it apart.

Thank you for all you do.
