RC with Heinrik and Veronica.  She is 20 years old and mother of 19 cubs.

I have a follow-up with my PC doctor at 9 this morning.  Otherwise I am going to try to relax and ignore any and all pain that confronts me.  cal, I saw a brief clip of the Royals at the White House.  All looked happy and a lot of joking was taking place.  Why has their performance dropped off so far this year?  Who is not producing?  They could still get into the fight but it won't be easy.  The Marlins play the White Sox and the Royals next month at home and then, in September, have a series with the Indians in Cleveland.  Right now they are in 2nd place, 4.5 games behind the Nationals.  They just took 3 of 4 games with the Phillies.

Lots of good wishes for all you Jewelies.  May you have a cool day, literally and figuratively.

Daily Updates
Catching Up - UPDATE July 21, 2016
21 July 2016
Print Email
I can?t begin to tell all that has happened in the last several days of no updates, big storms, Internet outages, electrical outages, etc. The bears and Bear Course participants were terrific. RC's cub
RC's cub
Community feeders called in sightings for Bear Course participants to come and see. These enabled us to have great moments with Lily, Fern, and others, plus the bears we found on our own.

Lily leaving
Old One-Eyed Jack, around 20 years old, endeared himself to course participants and showed why he is a favorite, but 9-year-old Lily might have been the biggest hit with her gentle, trusting personality and all she represents. She showed why she was such an important research partner in educating worldwide about black bears. After meeting us, she strolled off without a look back as she entered the forest to resume her private life.

After the sun had already set, we got a call that Fern and her cubs could be seen. With thanks to modern cameras that can make nearly dark pictures look like they were taken in daylight, we got a couple picturesFern and her cub
Fern and her cub

RC and her cubs are more skittish, so we watched them mostly from inside a gracious landowners? cabin.

The big males, all up there in age, probably did the most to change attitudes about what black bears are really like. Powerful enough to command respect, they did nothing to cause fear.

Out on the lake on the pontoon boat ride, a nearby loon ignored us floating nearby as it swam and groomed in good sunlight with the forest reflected in the water. Others of the dozen loons we saw showed their excellent bird recognition skills. Gulls were flying around without apparent notice, but an eagle very high overhead caught their interest. Loons looked up at it like I?ve never seen before. Near the den where Hope was born, we saw the source of the eagles. They had returned to their nest and had at least one eaglet.

2-year-old Sven took the prize for most beautiful bear. His forebears in Shadow?s clan are Shadow, Blackheart, Donna, Shannon, and his mother Summer.

Catching up.

Thank you for all you do.

I always did love stone fireplaces JP, cute with the bears.

We're "only" 81 and feels like 86, but the humidity is 78% with a dew point of 73.  A person goes outside and is dripping wet.  The only thing saving it so far is that it's kind of cloudy.  If that sun comes out it's going to be horrid.  Yesterday we had a "feels like" 110 in the afternoon  :-\

Wow Lily is 9 already!!

Anyone have storm trouble yesterday?  I saw they went to the SE down through Wisconsin into Illinois and some sounded heavy.

I hope your PC appointment went ok and hope you're feeling somewhat better!!

Happy birthday Sue!

Sorry you're hurting JP and hope the oral surgeon visit went ok!

Glad your poison ivy is gone Rues!

It's miserable here too.

I stuck a few pictures in an album on Facebook, the link will work for anyone......... https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.881847361919257.1073741868.100002820054173&type=1&l=96a4b038d0

Nora, that first photo of the clouds and bird.  It looks like a hummingbird flew in front of your lens.  Maybe a ruby throated?

Edit:  Looks like I lost the rest.  There was some funny stuff I wrote.  I cannot be funny twice and certainly not this long.  I will have to try this a different day, but want to make sure to say hi to all jewelies besides just Nora.  lol

Hi Jewelies! We are in that dome of hot air that the weatherman keeps talking about. We aren't as hot as Cal is but we are hot, in the high 90's. This weekend is supposed to be miserable and even next week we will still be in the low 90's and upper 80's.  I'm looking forward to fall!

Cal, I was wondering if there is a way for you to install a sprinkler system that would keep the girls cooled off? Or would that not be enough water to cool them off? Just wondering. The other day we drove up the road past the farm that has horses. I noticed their horses were all standing under trees out of the sun. There was one horse that had on a coat or blanket thing that looked like it was made of some kind of netting. Was that to keep bugs off? He was the only one that had that on. Can't believe that it's already time for Hyacinth to be on tomorrow! Time is flying by.

Jp, sure hope your dr visit went well for you!

Nora, thanks for sharing your pics with us! Love your flowers and Chester!

Eaglette, I lost a post earlier today, too! I don't know what I did to lose it but then I never do know! Lol!

Happy Birthday, Sue! Hope you had a nice day!

Bdurt.  His sister is Ursula.  He looks as if he was placing his order at a lunch counter.

I saw my PC doctor yesterday and he now wants to have an MRI taken of my pelvis so I have a Monday morning appointment for that.  He is looking for a crack (a slight fracture) of the bone  I wish they could find something wrong and then I could say that's it and stop this wondering.

It's Saturday ladies. so the only thing to do is

Yes it is JP.

It's been thundering off and on and raining.  I wanted to avoid the 150th year celebration uptown anyway, that clinches it.  70 degrees wouldn't be bad, but 70 dew point and temperature is supposed to get into the mid 80's again.  I think Joe said we had gotten 1.8 inches of rain so far this morning, but that was an hour and a half ago.  It's still raining.  Got Chester out for a short walk and played in the dog run with his favorite toy.  Brushed him out when we got on the porch to get any tangles out and some of the water before we went in the house.  I THINK his undercoat is letting up some, not much, but I feel like this heavy shedding is going to be rather long-term.  :D  Cal, 90 at midnight!  I guess I can't complain about ours.  When I took Chester out at 3 before bed there was no breeze and the air was so thick you could have cut it with a dull knife.

"Nora, that first photo of the clouds and bird.  It looks like a hummingbird flew in front of your lens.  Maybe a ruby throated?"  I wish, haven't seen any for a while.  I think that bird had taken off from by the bird feeders that are the other side of the driveway.  Maybe a Blue Jay?  The light wasn't good on it and the white wing bar sort of threw me, decided it wasn't a grackle.  :D  I Know what you mean about hummer though, just too big for where it was.

Burt DOES look like he's ordering breakfast  ;)  I wish they could find out something for you to JP, I hate to have you miserable and wondering is not good.

Have a good day all...........stay cool and stay safe if there are storms anywhere.

Nora, I haven't seen one hummingbird this season! I've had my feeder up since June when they normally start coming. I'm getting tired of changing the sugar water! Another favorite of theirs is my bee balm and garden phlox but still no hummers. Those flowers are almost gone now. My sis lives over the hill in a more rural area and she has had a male and 2 females feeding since May! Don't know why they are a no show.  :(

Cal yep, that's the cover I saw on the one horse! Wonder why he got one and the others didn't?  A few years back we almost bought a misting fan at Walmart. I don't remember why we didn't! Lol! Oh, yeah, I forgot about that cooler you were talking about. It sounds like a better option. I'm anxious to see what you have to show me about WV! Today's Hyacinth was the one where they took that Rolls Royce out for a test drive without the salesman! In the end the police arrest them in front of everyone! Daddy was going elephant hunting! I missed the first 10 minutes of the show because I went out front to clean up my day lilies. The front of the house faces west so I thought it would be cooler since the front was shaded in the morning. Boy was I wrong! It didn't matter if there was shade because the humidity was a killer! I started inside but a neighbor stopped and started talking to me. She was walking her little beagle named Edger. I thought she said Edgar but she said no it's Edger! After her older dog died she wanted a new pup but her hubby balked. Finally he said if he could get a lawn edger then she could get a pup. So he got his edger and she got hers! Lol! As they were leaving my yard, Edger did that beagle bark! Love it! Lol!

Hi Neva, you bake the best cakes! Lol! Hi Maddie Rose!

Jp, hopefully this MRI will find what the problem is. I sure hope so. Cute pic of Burt!

Would you believe it is too hot to go outside and jump in the pool! We are staying inside!

I took a big bone out to the dog on 4:28 and go t him  to stop digging. The Marlins blew a game with the Mets last night 5-3.  They better win tonight or the Mets will be ahead of them again in the standings.
