Hi, Jewelies! Everything is great, but I haven't been near my computer for the past 2 days. We have been having the most wonderful weather!! Sunny, cooler, gentle breezes, etc. Rues, happy to share it with you. Hooray! AC for Robin!! Sounds like the wise & only thing to do to get a new one. Cal, my dear, please go to the doc. to get that tumor evaluated. I know it's really hard to get those exams (even for a person with 4 kids, like me) , but this is really important. It might not  mean that you have to get surgery right away--maybe when Jim will be more available. If they would do the surgery by laprascope (sp?) recovery time would be a lot shorter. Please don't take a chance when it comes to your life & health. You need to be healthy to take care of your family.  Nora, we got our garden was planted way late because of the weather, so we won't have any tomatoes for a long time. Ra, how are you feeling on that diet? I found that when I cut out soy butter & tortilla chips recently, I feel better. I lost 3 pounds and feel better--more energy. Eaglette, a rat nest? Yikes! I heard on HGtv that those tile roofs in California harbor rats and all kinds of stuff. Has anyone heard of that? Sounds like you had a lot of bees! You'll have fun decorating the room in colors YOU like.  I'm getting so tired of hearing those Wayfair jingles. They must do big business with all those shows, Property Brothers, etc. Jp, keep on keeping on! Always good to hear from you. Hi, everyone!!

Cal, my favorite on the ads for the secret life of pets is the blue cat. The pixar movies are always outstanding!

Lily with the "F" Troop.  Frannie, Frankie and Francis

Hello on this Sunday.  I guess I need to go out and buy some sparklers to celebrate tomorrow.  I will have to wait until some strange pains in the back of both my legs dissipate.  I have decided that aging is painful.  It is a good thing, though, to be around to feel those aging pains.

Daily Updates
Big Harry, Pete, Ted, Tasha - UPDATE July 2, 2016
02 July 2016
Print Email
Looking at the photos of ?Big Harry? again today, I noticed a scar I?d missed a couple days ago. It was not Big Harry. Gray fox pup
Gray fox pup
It was positively 11-year-old Pete, son of June. We?re now waiting for Big Harry to show up.

Holly
Holly
I forgot to mention earlier that Shadow seemed hard of hearing when she was here on June 23rd. She was on the scale (254 pounds). As I approached the scale I kept speaking louder and louder as I walked on gravel. She didn?t respond until I was within about 5 feet. Strange for a bear as nervous and wary as Shadow is. She IS 29, though!

Loppy marked 3 trees here today and stomp-walked between them. The picture shows a yearling checking a white pine for scent?presumably bear scent.

Goldfinch
Goldfinch
We got word from a Lily Fan who has one of the local feeding sites that all 3 of Fern?s cubs are males.

At the Bear Center, word that Ted was up visiting Tasha made us hurry to see how it was going. Ted was making friendly sounds. Tasha was pacing at the far side of the pen?but not frantically. We?re getting set to move Tasha down next to Ted on Wednesday. We think she will feel more secure in a pen with trees to climb next to a bear that makes friendly sounds. It took Lucky a couple months to accept Ted?s friendly advances. We?ll see if Tasha accepts him more quickly.

Yearling sniffing

A Lily Fan captured 12 minutes of Ted?s other activities, including splashing the stream. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEGZ32YpqJY And an intern captured a 2-minute bird?s eye view of him in the stream at https://youtu.be/2CvgBkKD2Sg Holly balanced on the log in the pond.

Among the wildlife here today were a goldfinch, a raccoon, a woodchuck, a pair of adult gray foxes, and this distant look at a gray fox pup through the long lens. We had never seen a pup before. In fact, we never saw any gray foxes around here before April 11, 2007.

Thank you for all you do.

Ouch on your gas price JP.

5:12 on the bear universe.

It was sunny and breezy today and 70's.  It's 58 now and they say 74 for Sunday.  Got a couple good walks in.  The neighbors a couple places down from us had us over for supper and afterward I walked home for Chester.  Going down I didn't have the leash on him and he could see Joe and everyone down there and was getting more and more excited, but he stuck right by my leg, sometimes right and sometimes left, until we got near their property line and he couldn't resist any longer and just ran to them.  They were having fun throwing sticks for him and giving him attention.  He's not spoiled at all.  :D

Cal per one site:  Hysterectomy -- You can likely go home the next day when surgery is done through the vagina using a laparoscope or after robotic surgery.  It's possible it could even be a day-surgery where you go home the same day.  When a larger surgical cut (incision) in the abdomen is made, you may need to stay in the hospital 1 to 2 days.  Recovery times seem to vary, a lot of which is how the surgery is done.  You sure wouldn't be down like with the rotator cuff.  The longest I saw for heavy lifting was maybe six weeks.

The filter on this furnace is real thick and supposed to last a year.  I guess I won't complain on $20.

Awww JP -- Frannie, Frankie and Francis.  :)

I like that gray fox pup.  That yearling sniffing is cute.

My gosh on BooBoo Cal!!  He has sure matured since I saw him last.

Guess I better check out the tree everyone is talking about........   4:30

Here's Lucky.

I developed a severe pain in my groin area yesterday and went to the Urgent Care Clinic.  They did a scan but couldn't pin down the cause so I got a prescription for Tramadol HCL  It is worse today and the only relief I get is lying down and not moving.  That is impractical and since I feel that any pain is caused by something I may go to the Emergency room of the hospital today/

I greet you all on our nation's birthday with hopes and prayers for all to have a fine 4th.

Daily Updates
Ted, Tasha, Bears, and Birds- UPDATE July 3, 2016
03 July 2016
Print Email
A Lily Fan captured a half-minute video of Ted visiting Tasha and getting us excited about the possibility of them becoming friends. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQcdX-se7lA. Tasha didn?t panic. Hairy woodpecker feeding youngShe paced at the far end of her pen, but not frantically. There is hope. I hope Tasha soon will take his kind words seriously and gives him a break like Lucky did back in 2007 when they became play partners for years.

In this 2-minute video, Ted shows that he?s walking a little stiffly but okay. It looked like a grand outing with him checking out the food situation and obviously enjoying the pond. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5rl9jvuIrE.

Watching the wild bears interact here at WRI is a continuing education and immensely intriguing. Learning their personalities is always a joy. We?re trying to get a weight on the little female who was so popular the other day when we thought mating was about over.

Out the window, a male hairy woodpecker showed a youngster that sunflower seed hearts are an okay food.

Tomorrow starts a 3-day getaway with Donna. We?re headed to Winona for a concert by her favorite violinist, Joshua Bell. Along the way we?ll look for nature along the Mississippi and be back Wednesday night. No update tomorrow, but there will be lots happening at the Bear Center with Tasha on Tuesday and Wednesday. The staff will tell the story. Thinking about it, I can?t wait to get back to see how things are going there.

Thank you for all you do.
