Clan matriarch Shadow

Hi, everyone.  Not feeling too peppy this morning but that will improve, I am sure.

I have to go to Miami tomorrow for the eye shot.

May all of you have a fine Tuesday without excess weather.  I  hope we all have a normal Summer.

Cal can't wait to see the pics! Good job in catching them! Now I have some good news...Monday morn Crow called another ac company, the one my sister uses, and 2 hours later a guy showed up, agreed that the condenser was to old to fix and is going install a whole new unit on Thursday...this Thursday! No waiting till Aug 2 like the first guy!  Our local volunteer fire  dept is accepting cleaning supplies that will go to the flood areas so Crow and I went to Sam's this morning to get paper towels to donate. Got to the fire station and there was a sign saying they weren't taking any donations today! I'll have to call and see when they will be! I have enough paper towels now to last me a year! Lol!  I don't know anyone locally taking donations for pet supplies. I saw on the news where the pet shelters in the flood areas are at full capacity because folks are bringing their pets there. The shelters are also picking up pets that got separated from their homes in the flooding. I hope all the folks that had to leave their pets at the shelter will come back for them when they get settled back in their homes. It rained there yesterday in the flooded areas again. Some areas got over 2 inches. How sad.

Jp, have a safe trip tomorrow! Is the same guy taking you?

Bbl!

Hi rues! that is wonderful news on robin new ac and i think good you used your sisters guy instead of that one. jim going thru that with missys old unit he put freon in it for last time. told her it quits again have to get a new one or call someone else. i am with him on that. she never changes the filters or cleans outside unit. we have to answer for all the freon they would want to know why he didn't fix it or replace it cant let freon just out in the air. i agree i think this kind of stuff messing up our ozone causing hot weather.  i hope them people come for their pets at them shelters.  saw obama passed where they can rebuilt cheap loan and stuff.  jim said too robin needed a new unit. i saw they got more rain very sad. jim called this place on getting an huge generator propane back up printing off 14 pages right now be a dealer cause we got the heating and cooling business. get it wholesale still big bucks but would cover everything. barn downstairs house upstairs.

Glad you got the last two kitties Cal!

Sounds like all the air conditioners are getting under control.

Beautifully cool tonight, 58 so far, and up to 74 tomorrow.  We go up to LaCrosse in the morning for another follow up for Joe's shoulder.  So far so good.

Good luck with your eye appointment JP.

Daily Updates
Tasha, Fish and Bear Curator Bear News - UPDATE June 28, 2016
28 June 2016
Print Email
Dr. Rogers is busy working on a paper so the staff is writing a brief update today.

At the Bear Center, Tasha has been a busy little bear. Today she kept herself busy playing in her enclosure. Tasha
Tasha
A Lily Fan caught her antics on this 5:37 minute video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oe2mmp4NJAM. Yesterday she really enjoyed her enrichment tube filled with nuts, dried cranberries and grapes. She was more interested in batting it around. All the action was caught on this 9:01 video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5WeoZived0

Tuesday is fish feeding day; a crowd gathered as the interns poured a few dozen minnows into the aquarium. Visitors were amazed at how fast the fish were in catching the little minnows.

A community feeding station reported Braveheart and Burt visited them this morning. Burt also put in an appearance at the WRI.

Sharon Herrell published her weekly Bear News article (photos can be found on the NABC Facebook page) https://www.facebook.com/NorthAmericanBearCenter.

June 28, 2016 ? Bear News

Today I'd like to talk about our 9-year-old Lucky. His continual expressions and silliness keep our visitors and staff entertained and wondering what he will do next.
His yawn in the first photo indicates his response to the Interns and Bear Educators as they try to wake him up for his breakfast. As Lucky wakes up he likes to play with his paws.

Of course once Lucky bear is awake he has to sit and ponder whether he will make the interns wait, or will his desire for his breakfast of an egg, biscuit and fruit worth getting up for.

We continually learn from our bears and it?s all with the satisfaction that they are all well cared for and nothing prevents them from acting like bears.

As for our Holly bear, her expression seems to always look like she is guilty of something. To her defense, she has been letting Tasha know she is the boss and there will be no doubt in her mind about that. I am using an anthropomorphic idea to what I think Holly is feeling.

Tasha has been here three weeks. She spent time last evening entertaining herself and our cam viewers. She made a nesting/resting area in the small bunker den. She retreats there when it rains and when Holly is threatening her. Yesterday, she slapped at Holly as Holly poked her nose through the small hole on the outside of the bunker. Holly was shocked and ran off. At this time both females are asserting them themselves. As time passes they will hopefully divide the area so both are happy.

Ted has made a few visits to Tasha and he has greeted her with his soft whoots.
Ted is enjoying some time off from his duties of behind-the-scenes. He enjoys relaxing in his cedar pile and you can see in the photo.

We are quickly approaching the 4th of July, Lilypad weekend, and the Blueberry Festival. We hope that you will all have the opportunity to stop and visit the NABC and our amazing ambassador bears.

Thank you for all you do.
Sharon Herrell, Bear Curator

Thank you for supporting the NABC and the WRI.

Cal, I can't believe Tasha has been at the center for 3 weeks! Time is flying by! That is so funny about Holly always looking guilty! Lol!  Did you eat that orange? Lol! It's really nice here today...75 and low humidity. I have the doors and windows open. Wish it could stay this way year round. Have you named the kittens?

Jp, hope your day went well!

Nora, hope Joe's day went well, too!

I rinsed that dog out in 4:22!

Hi Rues! i know i can't believe Tasha been there almost a month and yet i can.  lol holly looking guilty cause she is!! :D it is 82 and humidity 54% little warm and no not named the kittens just the first one who loves me well i call her my little leader. the other are coming around. will take some time Missy called me today said Pete would give me a deal on fixing them if i do all of them same day. say what. will have to find out how much of a deal cause that would be costly have to do them here and there.  got them off fancy feast eating can food like the big cats do now. friskies so that is good. i have not ate that orange yet but will in a little while.  we ordered that propane backup generator a little while ago. went with this place in the city no dealer junk just bought one. only 220.00 more and jim said i was right just buy one and not have to give that place our tax number and the all that junk and have to sell one a year and on and on. forget that. have to call my propane place they will come out and put in the line to it. jim needs to make a cement pad for it like he does ac units. they not sure who they are maybe farmers electric put up these huge i mean huge tall steel towers. can see them on the way to home. probably like a mile or so from the house. so tall that we can see one from the front yard is you stand over by the garage. running electric from them to way on out. anyway jim heard when they run the electric lines this winter our power will be out alot. so really happy to get this thing and get it hooked up. jim said it will use this much propane but that is fine if power out for days just call our propane place and they will bring more right out. don't need electric for them come!! and anymore big wind storms won't have to worry. ice storms no worry.

Cal, we fed Wilson Fancy Feast when he was a baby. He loved it. Now he and Tela eat 9 Lives like Stella. My Heidi would only eat Friskies Buffet! I'd try to trick her with another brand and she would refuse to eat it! Oh, how I miss that sweet calico.  Is the power company expanding their service because more people are moving into your area? Or maybe a new business is coming? I'm glad you are getting your propane generator! Now you won't worry about power outages!   I was watching flood coverage on tv where they were showing pics all the destruction. In one of the pics was several of those big propane tanks, probably like yours, all jammed up at a bridge! They must have all been swept down the holler in the raging water! How scary! That would be great if Pete could give you a good deal on fixing all the kittens at once! You give him enough business that he should be willing to do that! Lol!
