More Bear Visits and a Big Thank You! - UPDATE June 18, 2016
18 June 2016
Print Email
Mike reported that Heinrik (mother RC), Cole (mother June) and yearling Nancy (mother Bow) paid a visit to the WRI last night.  Cole
Cole
Nancy was very calm but later she appeared to run 3-year-old Cole off.

Holly

This morning 14-year-old Braveheart showed up alone and hungry.  Her yearlings Geneva, Stratton, and Porter have gone through family breakup and are on their own; hopefully they will make an appearance at the WRI.

Tasha enjoyed her daily game of Tug-of-War as seen on this video captured by one of our interns: https://youtu.be/mWAoEB-hwEw.

We heard from Dr. Rogers and Donna today.  All went well with the presentations and they are enjoying a few days in Alaska visiting the Wildlife Conservation Center and the Alaska Sealife Center.  Dr. Rogers will be back to work on Tuesday.

A huge thank you for everyone that supported the Birthday Fundraiser today! All of the proceeds will go toward food for the bears.  We are humbled by your generosity.

Good Morning Jewelies! it is 72 here and weather says hot and humid today upper 90's and heat index 100. Update pictures so good. love lucky laying  like that. boo boo and houla lay like that sometimes. Loved seeing cole and tasha having fun with the tug of war. those bears remind me of my dogs alot. playing tug of war and stuff. Dr. Rogers and Donna be home soon. i bet that alaska wildlife conservation and sea deal pretty neat.

Hi JP! Love the picture of shannon! I hope you have a good fathers day today. Is patrick coming down to see you? I watched the demolition of Detroit last night! Royals won 16-5! I had to stay up and watch that!

Hi Ra! i stayed up for awhile and watched the game i woke up 3:30 watched the world news for 20 min and then got up. went out to feed the kittens i did not see them but will go out there after i post this. i had tons of cats fixed too and dr. harris long time ago i took this cat to her told her sec ann if she was pregnant dont fix her well she was and she died on the table. i was really upset and dr harris said miscommunication with ann. so i never went back to her and even though she is half price of pete i am happy i took mom cat to pete and will just use him. ed did not like dr. harris. Pete said he can fix the kittens at 3 months and he will give me a break on the cost. jim said he should as long as we been gong there. and jim was not happy when i brought her in. and i had a few words with him over that. she is in. I do far too much stuff for everyone to hear about a poor little cat.

83 so far, breezy, sunny, but at least the dew point is slowly going down.

Rues your rock peacock sounds really cute  :)  Glad your eyes are ok.  A picture!  That peacock is really cool, love the feet.  :D

Cal when I had a cat that would go into the hay when it was hot or some spot he'd feel kind of cool when he came out.  I don't know how they do it.  Maybe the hay keeps the heat out.  You got a new car?

Glad your grand's heart is ok RA, it's amazing what they can do.  I think Humana is the one the neighbor up the street had for a supplemental and they really liked them.  When the Obamacare came along Humana had quit several counties in Iowa and this county was one of them.  They had to find a different one and the deductible was higher to get a premium anywhere near what they were paying.  Richard had several surgeries and stuff and they were great when they had them.  Joe has the Medicare stuff and then he also has a supplemental through Blue Cross.  So far with any clinic stuff and the surgeries last fall and winter we haven't paid a cent.  Guess we do in premiums though.

That was a good chart about hydration Eaglette.

Dee that's a good one with "....brain has to many tabs open"  :D  That's super about your car!  OMG Bei Bei is just too darned cute AND busy.

I get a ton of mail from AARP.  It must cost them a fortune to send all that stuff out to people.

RA the BLT's.  I have B's with Miracle Whip.

Per RA to Cal "...Does Jim ever give you a hard time about taking in more pets?  LOL  If not, he must be a special person!  I was always given a lot of flack when I got a new cat."  This could work for cats, dogs, mice, anything  ;)

Happy father's day JP!!

I drew a picture on that dads face in 5:05!

Hi Nora! love your pictures! :D I did not want another cat believe me. don't want anymore animals of any kind. got way too much now. can't even go down to susies place and finish getting out stuff cause take too long to get there and back. not mom cats fault either. so we do what we should do. In a world where you can be anything...be kind. It was not really hot back behind that hay and when i reach down under it towards the dirt floor feels much cooler. mom cat she would be under old smokie and panting but not anymore. well i got a new car in nov. 2014. a 2015 ford escape it is my first new car. got 13,000 miles on it now. i drive old smokie to the feed store and try to drive it when sister is here. but no trashing it either. i love that suv it is a 2004 escape. my granny and papa had the blue cross tie in too. i know you pay for premiums but man the cost of the hospital is sky high!! I know that AARP must spend a fortune on junk mail. i get tons of that too. They are talking like we could maybe get some rain tomorrow afternoon at 4pm! i been out mowing today. weeds and the grass still grew.  lol did she bring home another dog..lol nora did she bring home another cat..hamster..mouse...bird..raccoon..possum...horse..groundhog..vole..mole...

Hi, Jewelies!! Again, heat, sun but no rain. I had to mow the yard, and the moles have been busy out on the slope by the pole barn, making everything dusty. Rues, I like your peacock. I'm like ra ,I  like unusual things. Ra, I had a 2nd grader in my class who had to take antibiotics before dentistry because of surgery when she was 4. She was doing really well--so glad your grand is, too!!  She is in her 30's now.  Dlong, what a pleasure to hear from you! Hope things get straightened out soon. It's amazing what medical tech. can do.  You keep reading, and we'll keep thinking about you! Cal, are you going to keep the mama cat in for good?  A lot of cats get intestinal upsets from milk but don't know if they all do. Happy fathers' day, jp!  Hi, nora, neva, bischue, Eaglette, deb, chippy!!

Holly & Lucky, playing.

The last full week of June starts with hopes for those of you who are suffering from the heat to get a cooler spell.  While down here has not been as hot as those of you further up the map,  the heat here has been very oppressive due to high humidity.

I thank all for the Father's Day greetings.  I had a good one as Patrick was down.  We had lunch together and then watched the Marlins win and get into second place in their division behind the Nationals.

May this Monday treat you all kindly.

Daily Updates
Ursula, Braveheart and NABC Bears - UPDATE June 19, 2016
19 June 2016
Print Email
Last night Ursula (mother Shadow, and Burt?s sister) stopped by for a visit at one of the Ursulacommunity feeding stations. Mike was happy to get the call.

He immediately took a ride over and verified that it was Ursula. Braveheart returned again last evening for a brief visit.

Today was busy at the bear center. We had two different Boy Scout troops come through, one from Texas and the other from Illinois. It?s always a treat to have scouts visit and learn the truth about black bears. They were very interested in our new Camping with Bears exhibit.

Tasha?s day started with tub time, and as you can see by the photos and this video she had a blast! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2YyugWOHKY. On another note, Lucky visited Tasha at the fence today; she bluff charged him and he took off! Is she becoming more confident?

Holly and Lucky enjoyed cooling off in the pond on this warm 86? day. The interns caught the action on video: https://youtu.be/venzOFApN9w.

Hi JP! Love the pic of holly and lucky playing! They took out my cooler weather for this week. i just knew it. really hot and humid all week they said wed not almost 100 and way higher with the humidity. may still get that rain today so that will help my little trees and stuff.  i do not have time to do everything. my heart beats faster and i feel kinda sick so i can't do everything out there in that heat.Jim leaves this morning for denver so hoping my ac doesn't quit on me. He was saying you can take an old capacitor off one of the old unit down in the shop and put it on. remember how i did that no jim i was not out there. i can't do that. i can call someone else to come do that. i had a big smile seeing that patrick came down to see you yesterday and you guys went to lunch and your marlins won and now in second place!! right behind them nationals!! I was watching the royals game last night got in a little late was out in the barn it went into the 10th inning and i was like okay come on then the 11th well i am just going to watch one more inning then the 12th we won it in the 13th! cuthbert single drove it in 2-1!

Hi Obsver! Yes planning on keeping her in. she is so sweet but in need to move her. i need the closet back for the meanie boys. i am getting the kittens to eat out there. yesterday i was looking down the hallway behind all that hall and the little black and orange one was out turned and saw me oh no darted back in a hidey hole. but they will get use to me. they are eating pretty good. cleaning up the plate i have not seen the one that looks like her but i don't always see all them. in a couple of weeks i will be the trap back out and try to catch them.
