Good morning Jewelies! It's raining again for the 13th day in a row!  :o Some days just a few sprinkles while other days all day rain! And it is chilly out with frost warnings tonight and tomorrow night! Snow flurries expected in a couple of our higher mountain areas tonight! :o I planted my tomato, peppers and annual flowers Thursday! Now I may have to cover them up! My grandpa always said not to plant tender vegetation until after May 15! Our weather guy says normally it's safe to plant after April 26 around here but this year is very abnormal!

Cal, glad Jim made it home safely! Did he experience any of those long lines when checking in at the airports? Those lines could make you not want to fly! Robin has a couple trips planned this summer so I hope they get this problem straightened out! She can be a real bear ( of course not talking about our bears  because our bears are nice!) when she has to wait very long! I did watch BBT! Omg, is Sheldon's mom and Leonard's dad hooking up? Lol! I hate Penny's hair now. Wish she would leave it short!

Jp, good pic of Donna! She is a super bear to have 4 cubs twice! I had a salad yesterday at our fav Italian restaurant called a Key West salad! It had kiwis, strawberries, mandarin oranges and cashews on a bed of greens with coconut dressing! Oh, was it good! I wanted to lick the plate when I was finished to get all the dressing that was left! Lol!

Ra, did you watch all of the Blacklist? Now we find out more about Tom's beginnings! So sad about the Decorah baby's death. I didn't watch any of the nest. Just couldn't watch it. I know that's a part of life but just couldn't watch.  Your gift wrapping makes your gifts special! What fun! I have 2 pairs of Timberland hiking boots that I have had for years, too! And they still look fairly new! I wear them all winter long instead of my tennis shoes! Are they still called tennis shoes or is it walking shoes? Lol!

Eaglette, hope your foot feels better! I have a heel problem myself and I know how hard it can be to walk!

Obsver and Nora, is it cold in your neck of the woods? Are you getting this cold blast from Canada like we are?

Hyacinth is on now! Lol! BBL!

RA, we went to a restaurant like that in Minneapolis 32 years ago.  Geeze that's about half a lifetime!!  It was my 30th birthday.  I remember it because it was really goofy streets and a cross street was really wide and I didn't see the little "no right turn on red" sign and a cop saw me.  He looked at my license for a while and saw I was from Stillwater and not the immediate area and birthday and said "happy 30th" as he handed my license back.  Whew.  But anyway, it was really neat watching the knives get twirled and food tossed and things in flames.  :D   Are there any Dr. Scholls shoe inserts that help RA?  Your grands seem to do great at whatever they try, that's neat.

Your boot looks comfortable Cal!

Donna has had four cubs at a time, seems like a LOT.

RA I don't like water sprayed at my face since my sister unexpectedly sprayed me with the hose when I was about two to three.  Actually mom even had trouble washing my hair for a while after that, I'd hold a washcloth over my eyes so NO water got in there and if my folks went fishing my mom or sister would have to sit on shore with me because I'd absolutely scream in the boat.  Then in seventh grade my gym teacher said I WAS going to do the bob and put her hand on top of my head and pushed me under and held me there.  Not good.  Maybe you needed a "Roger".  My folks bought a little cabin in Wisconsin and the people next door lived there year round.  Their son was a year younger than me and really cute.  He actually had me diving off the dock by the end of the summer.  :D :D

We're "up" to 40 with the windchill 32.  It's a WNW wind and was cold when Chester and I did our mile.

Rues I still call my tennis shoes, tennis shoes.  ;D

Yep, rues,  it's back to cold, nasty rain, wind, etc. Lucky to get the mowing done this week. We don't have our garden tilled, and normally, we'd be buying tomato & pepper plants. Instead, it's back to warm coats. Ra, I have some Merrell shoes that I wear with my jeans. I liked them so much, I bought another pair just like them. I know a surgeon that likes to wear Merrells while he operates. really comfortable. They are a bit pricey, but I got in on some good sales.  My grand is graduating, and I'm amazed at how much she has matured this past year. She seems so confident--she has been on a work-study program at the hospital in the afternoons, has a part-time job and is in the Honor Society. Ok, I know I'm bragging, but I'm just so happy for her!  Cal, I remember you said you had bought Extreme Prey, but I didn't know if you had a chance to read it yet. How do you like your washer without the agitator by now? Is it a Maytag? Sometime during the next year, I may need to buy a new one. My new Frigidaire frig. wasn't working right, so took it back and got a white Maytag with the freezer on top. So far, so good. I really like it.  There is a Japanese restaurant in Ft. Wayne where everyone sits around the long grill while he cooks. At least I thnk it's still there. A lion fish was in an aquarium.  Hi, all you other Jewelies!!   Is there anyone here who is having the kind of weather they want?

Cal, my Hyacinth was the one you saw a couple weeks ago...the one where Hyacinth and Emmet ride horses! Where's the brake? Lol! She and Richard spend their first night in their country retreat and she invited Liz and Emmet to a cucumber sandwich with sweet country tea luncheon! She says her apartment is not small, it is old world bijou! I had to look that up! It's something small, dainty and elegant and highly prized! Lol! By now you have probably seen every episode just like me! Lol! I forgot to mention that my salad had grilled chicken breast on it, too! I know you wouldn't like that part!

Nora, how awful that the teacher pushed your head under water! I would have drown right then and there! I go in the water but have to hold my nose if I go under! And I can't open my eyes under there! There's a Japanese restaurant down the road from me. I hear that they do all that tossing and twirling at your table. They have sushi and food like that. Doubt anyone will get  me in there! Lol! What's up with all this cold weather?

Obsver, Robin has a couple pairs of Merrell boots. They are very nice. She got hers on EBay at a pretty good price. You have every right to brag about your grand! You are proud of her! She has a good head on her shoulders and knows what she wants to do!  My fridge is a Maytag, too. I got it in March of 2011. It's a white side by side. I just love it. We got it at Home Depot and when they delivered it they put a small scratch on the side. The delivery guy called the manager and told him. So the manager knocked $100 off the price! I touched it up with a white out correction pen! So far, knock on wood, haven't had any problems with the fridge!

Hi Jewelies!  Hot, but very, very windy today.  Bet it blows all the art around in town at the festival.  Keeps it from feeling so hot though...

rues and obsver... I have a Maytag fridge, too.  Mine was new in 1999 and it a side by side, but the ice maker doesn't work very well.  That's ok though... I hardly ever use it.  I had a repairman out one time a few years ago because there was a drain that was plugged.  Tennis shoes are still tennis shoes to me, too.

obsver... Like rues said, you have every right to be proud of your grand.  Especially these days, when they can go down the wrong path so quickly!  Brag all you want!  We all complain about our weather, don't we?  lol

cal... What has happened to your Royals??  Seems like they would be the best team around, doesn't it?  We went to the ice cream place yesterday and I got to meet the grand's new "friend, that's not a boyfriend"... yet.  lol  I get a bad rep... The girls tell all their friends that I'm their crazy gramma.  The kid was pretty nice from what I could tell.  Kind of shy, but smiles a lot and has nice teeth.  And,he's musical and plays a lot of different instruments.  I can't believe you're wearing your winter clothes to mow today!!  I don't need to mow yet... we haven't had enough rain to make the grass grow.  Funny that the weeds don't seem to have any trouble though!

rues... I was sitting here earlier and heard cats "singing" to each other.  lol  Lily and Handsome were having a faceoff with the neighbor's cat outside my bedroom window!  Poor Lily was scared and when I got her to come inside, he tail looked like a bottle brush!  lol  Handsome made the cat go home.   ;D  He's our protector.

Nora... I've never tried Dr. Scholls inserts.  The new gel ones look like they'd be comfy though... but, I wonder if they would make your shoes too tight if they're thicker than the old kind.  I can't believe that gym teacher held your head under water!!  I'd be furious!  I don't like water splashed in my face either, don't like someone slapping my face either, don't like someone sitting on my chest either, don't like a lot of things... thanks to my brothers.  It's no wonder I still don't like them very much...

JP... Looks like we all made it through Friday, the 13th!  Whew!  ;)

Hope everyone is doing good today!  Hi everyone!  I'm waving at you all!  See me?   ;D

Hello Jewelies.  What a lovely Saturday it is here.  That was said with sarcasm.  My weather is not much better than yours.  There is a thick layer of marine cover, which means everything is looking gray.  They call it gray May in my neck of the woods.  It gets followed by June gloom.  That can get depressing with all that blahhh outside.  All the more reason to come to the Forum for a good cheer!!

Cal, that LARGE photo of your good looking boot, just about kicked me off my seat.   lol      That looks like it is going to be really comfortable to wear.  I have an old pair, and I mean old... Timberland hiking boot.  Back when they made them with all leather and they were heavy.  I traveled to Yosemite during one hot summer and by the time I got the shoes out of the trunk to put on for hiking, I discovered that the heat in the trunk melted all the shoe glue that kept the soles on the bottom of my hikers.  That was the end of the best pair of hikers I ever owned.  I took them to a shoemaker, but the soles never felt comfortable and now they are collecting dust somewhere with all my camping and hiking gear.  Somehow, I always imagined you out in the barn with these kind of boots on:

So there you go surprising me again Cal.  First, you don't sound in real life like I hear you sounding in my head whilst I read your tales and now you are not even running around your homestead wearing the kind of boots that I pictured you wearing.  What are you going to tell me next?  I sure hope you run around with piggy-tails and wear a bandanna to keep you from inhaling all the dust and mucking fallout.  lol    Don't tell me if it isn't true, I want to keep your memory in my mind clear.   hahaha.

Obsver, congratulations on raising your child so well that you got such a well raised granddaughter out of that effort!   In Girl Scouting you'd get the Gold Star award for making something sustainable. Job well done!!!

Nora, I call my "athletic shoes" gym shoes.  Gets my kids laughing to this day.  They were always gym shoes for me growing up.

Rues, your Grandpa was right about the planting.  Seems like the stores just push all this stuff on us earlier and earlier each year.  The stores here have school supplies put out in July, which is right after school lets out.  Who wants to shop for that so early.  Same with all the holidays, it just gets earlier and earlier each year.  There is one thing that cannot be rushed, that is Mother Nature.  If it cannot be planted earlier than May 15, then there is no use enticing us to purchase these plants before it is time to plant them.  But that is consumerism these days.  Money money money.

JP, looks like Donna was being a little tease there with her hanging all out of her fur like that.  lol   She looks more like she is posing for Bear Pin Up calendar than for Bear News Magazine.   hahaha.

Ra, do your brothers still tease you about all their shinanigans?  My Aunt gave it back to my Dad tenfold when he finally was a Dad.  She gave me lots of things that she knew my Dad would not like listening to when we got back into the car for our 5 hour ride home from Grandma's on holidays.  The best was the tambourine.  That drove both Mom and Dad crazy and was soon "lost" in our home.
Yes, a tambourine ... it was the 70's afterall.  Long hair, jeans, smocked tops and a tambourine.  hahaha.

So, now I cannot figure out how to look back at whom all I included in this long post.  If your name was not included, it is not cause I don't love you... it's cause I can't remember nor remember how to look back.  So I guess that is my time to stop writing.  As it is there is already a warning that others replied during the time I took to write this all down.  I don't think I will even attempt the puzzle of the day with a brain like this today.  Thanks for all the well wishes about my foot.  I will survive that one too, just like you all have survived foot ailments.  Peace for the remainder of this weekend to all.  The Eaglette.

Hi Eaglette!  I was going to tell you that you should see the boots I sent to cal to wear in the barn and maybe she has a pic she can show you.  Then look and there they are!!  lol  No, my brothers don't tease about what they did to me, it's not funny.  And, although they won't admit it, I think they know they did me wrong.  I don't talk to them much... maybe once or twice a year.  One is in TX and one is still in MI.  Funny what your aunt did to get back at your brother!

cal... I hope Scootie is ok now.  Good think you went in when you did.  Poor thing!  My next washing machine is going to be one without an agitator.  Then, I can wash all my quilts and not have to take them to the dry cleaners or ask my daughter to do it for me.  She already has one like yours.  Funny you just posted a pic of the zebra boots!  When I was going to post, there was a new one and LOOK!  there they are!  lol

Daily Updates
Fern?s Cubs, Herbie?s Mate, and Ted - UPDATE May 14, 2016
14 May 2016
Print Email
As the landowners stood looking at Fern and her cubs this morning, they were both saying they probably wouldn?t get much done today with what was happening Fern with her cubs
Fern with her cubs
in their yard. Fern brought her cubs in. The man said they were as cute as they could be and he might have gotten pictures of them. He sent them to me for the update. So cute.

Then Herbie (Fern?s brother) came in with his mate. The cubs scampered up a white pine with Fern right behind. Didn?t she know it was her brother? We always say that black bears run first and ask questions later.

Then they called me. I zipped over but couldn?t get anything decent of Fern and the cubs up the tree but saw Herbie and his mate in good light. Herbie
Herbie
I am looking forward to taking Black Bear Field Course participants over there. That feeding site has a lot of action and the landowners are happy to share the joy.

Herbie's mate

I didn?t recognize Herbie?s mate, and she apparently didn?t recognize any of us. She is skittish but calming down a bit. She probably is not a Shadow Clan bear. The picture of nice Herbie shows the snow from yesterday. It is melting slowly with the thermometer creeping only a little above freezing. 36?F now at 7:56 PM.

Thank you for all you do.
