Nora... That makes me sick.  The case I told you about was a man on trial for killing his wife.  They found him innocent...  I think it was just last year, but not positive.

Hi Jewelies!  Storms rolling in, so I have to say hi fast.  lol  Pretty quite day here...

cal... What you been doing?  Just taking it easy, now that your house is all clean?  I know... yeah, right!  lol  Oldest grand made cheerleading, no real surprise... the younger one is trying out this week.  We'll see how that turns out this year...  My TX brother called me today and talked for a long time.  First time we've talked this year.  He's got a birthday this month... 71!   :o

JP... doesn't look like you overslept this morning!  I truly hope you went back to bed!!  Who's taking you to Miami?  Pretty May basket!  Thanks!

rues... How's your weather up there?  We've been getting some nice rain, and this week it's supposed to go down to around 70 for high temps!!  Sounds so nice!  Blindspot tonight!

obsver... Want some cheetos?  How about fritos?  I've got some salted caramel pretzels... want some?  lol  What you been doing?

OK... Better go... it's getting noisy out there.  Hi to everyone I didn't mention.  Eaglette, where you been?  willi... How's Henry?  blschue... Is the sun out yet?  See you guys later...

dlong... Did you kick out Arthur yet?

Lorie.  Samantha's daughter 2014.

ra, I have a man named Raymond who will drive me to Miami tomorrow.  He is the driver for the local GM car dealer driving people to and from, when they leave their cars for work.

Here we have a Tuesday ahead of us in which we can enjoy a mid-Spring  day.  May we all make the most of it.

Daily Updates
Action in the Enclosure - UPDATE May 2, 2016
02 May 2016
Print Email
The day started with Pond Chatters spotting 3 snowshoe hares taking advantage of the grass growing around the pond. I don?t know if they are always in the enclosure Snowshoe hare
Snowshoe hare
or if they come and go through the fence. Lily Fans captured them close-up with the Pan-Tilt-Zoom camera.

Ted was down front for awhile, then Lucky and Holly, who still show what looks like youthful exuberance, both in the pond and then in their white pine play tree as a Lily Fan captured in this 6-minute action video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6v4JFxXkzw&feature=youtu.be

Thinking of Honey, I looked at the 41 pictures of her in the 2016 calendar. So many good memories of so many aspects of her life. Rolling playfully. At the rock den where she invited little Lucky to join her. With her big plastic donut she shook to get food out of. Contented with Ted in mating season. Praying on a rock. In morning mist. With her red ball. Drinking, with her reflection reflected in the pond. Close-ups of her face. Plowing through the snow. Actually playing with Lucky after their winter together in the rock den ( I didn?t know anyone had caught that). Honey with her beautiful fur after she was done shedding, sitting in a snowstorm. In her familiar window den. I don?t know how Jim Stroner gets such needle-sharp frameable pictures with such expression in the eyes. It?s hard to stop looking at a picture that seems to look back at you.

A Lily Fan asked what I thought of the story of a growling bear being shot in Minnesota. http://www.kaaltv.com/news/black-bear-killed-euthanized-chatfield-minnesota-fillmore-county-sheriff-dnr-/4124125/ I have never heard a black bear growl, although many people say that have. I believe that if people are afraid, anything a bear says will be interpreted as a growl. I?m glad I?m giving a talk on black bear language at the International Bear Conference in Anchorage, Alaska, this coming June 12 (a Monday) in the afternoon (talks at 2:40 PM and 3:45 PM) . Also, our Gordon Burghardt is giving a talk on the beginnings of play as revealed by our Den Cams at 3:25 PM that day.

Finally, an excited phone call at 8:31 PM. A resident had just spotted Shadow and her cub Spanky. Shadow made it into another year. She is 29. She can proudly say that (through 2015) over 225 descendents have been born into her clan, including 26 offspring of her own. The 225 descendents include five generations (e.g., Shadow, June, Lily, Faith, and Faith?s sons David and Allen). I suspect we?ll see more fifth generation cubs this summer.

Thank you for all you do.

cal, the Royals are lucky.  They only have the short series with the Nationals.  The Marlins are in the same division with them and the Mets and have to play them each 19 times.  So far, in 6 games with the Nationals the teams are 3-3.  In 3 games with the Mets the Marlins are 2-1.  Strangely, when you look at team batting average the Marlins are 3rd in the whole major league with a .277 average.  The Royals are 13th at .250 and the Nationals are 22nd at .35

Hi, jewelies! The sun! The sun! Can't believe it, but I'll take it! Ra, no & no to the Cheetos & Fritos, but the pretzels sound interesting. You can't go wrong with anything caramel, butterscotch, maple or cinnamon. I've been doing some reading--rues, I'll finish that Randy Wayne White yet. I had to renew it. Also doing some yard work in-between rain showers. I hate trying to organize drawers, closets, etc., because it's so hard to throw anything out--there's always the fear that if I get rid of it, I'll have an inspiration of how to use it. Maybe I'll just let the kids deal with it when I croak. Cal, how's your toe doing? The problem has never been completely solved, has it? Hi, jp, Dlong, bischue, nora, neva, Eaglette,  Willi, deb, pat, chippy!

hi jp! in my room on the ipad getting ready to play ball. with them natl again. wow i was totally shocked at the batting averages! natl only .35! well heck lets go royals! believe me i am happy only a short series with them. your marlins playing pretty darn good with them and those mets. marlins and royals not far apart on batting average. i sure do hope we win tonight. other night kennedy and another pitcher having a hard time reading perez signals. why i do not know. still salvy same catcher. sport show was reading stuff fans saying..fire the hitting coach..yost change the line up. etc.. we can do it heck won the world series and almost won it before too.

hi obsver! i just got thru putting on my toe stuff. no not any better at all. nail grew back all bad again. top of that toe skin like cement. hurts me. today i was thinking of going to dr hauss bone surgeon. see if he will take an xray. no one will do that. instead of treating the outside see if something wrong inside. seeing if he can cut off that skin maybe do a skin graft get all new skin. did you vote today. i tell you throw out stuff and you will need it later. yes let them kids deal with it when you croak! lol cool eastern was in kc. what was she doing? was she at my walmart in excelsior?

hi blschue! what are you and mr bill up too?

Hi Jewelies!  I think the rain is finally done now.  Sure didn't get that much, but we needed every drop.  lol

JP... Wishing you a good trip and an easy doctor appt tomorrow.

cal...  I had to work today at a house in the next town over.  When I got there, there was a note on the door saying they weren't ready for me.  Nice.   :-\  She's lucky she left my check, or she wouldn't see me again.  lol  She said we could reschedule or just see you next month.  Looks like she can wait until next month.  I have no idea why she couldn't have called me and saved me the trip!  Glad you got your car paperwork straightened out and got some shopping done, too!   ;)  Funny puzzle today!  lol  Just heard Ted Cruz quit!

obsver... It's so funny how different people's tastes are!  I got those salted caramel pretzels for my grands... I don't like caramel, nor maple, nor butterscotch!  Love cinnamon though!  lol  I also LOVE to organize!  lol

rues... How did you like Blindspot?  Did you watch it yet?  How're the grandkits?

Have a good evening!  Hi to all!

Ra, can't you imagine coming to my house to organize and me lurking and running back into the house with stuff you threw out? lol I'm not a hoarder--no really, I'm not--but I do have a few things I can't bear to get rid of. Most of that stuff is hidden in drawers & closets. Cal, get yourself on one of those tv programs about medical mysteries. Have laser treatments ever been suggested? Those are really expensive, I'll bet. My eastern daughter was at some sort of convention-instruction thing for people who spin their own wool and knit. Goodnight, Jewelies. So good to know you are all out there.

Bears and Miscellaneous - UPDATE May 3, 2016

Shadow on 7/27/15
Shadow on 7/27/15
Holly is not afraid to get wild. Lucky (387.5 pounds on April 16) weighs over twice as much as Holly (177 pounds on April 15) but she initiates wild play without hesitation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5P0Qf9DxINA&feature=youtu.be

A Lily Fan said my Alaska talks are on Monday, June 13, which I had always thought, too. But the schedule from the conference said it was on Monday, June 12, so I made sure I put that date in the update last night. Who was right? The Lily Fan, of course. The talks are Monday afternoon, June 13.

Lucky and Holly play
Lucky and Holly play
A Lily Fan asked if there were any 2016 calendars left with the 41 pictures of Honey and her story. I checked. With the year partly gone, I see they are marked down to $9.95 at http://www.bear.org/website/gift-shop-pages/product/12037-2016-north-american-bear-center-calendar.html

There is excitement in the community with 29-year-old Shadow and little Spanky back again. I dearly hope Shadow can make it through another hunting season to see whether she reproduces at 30 years of age. I don?t know of any black bear doing that?certainly not in the wild. Her face is very gray with age.

Red-winged blackbird    Chipping sparrow    White-throated sparrow
Two more birds showed up this year, back from migration?a red-winged blackbird that isn?t fully unveiling its red patch yet, and a chipping sparrow with its rufous crown. The yellow on the white-throated sparrow glowed so brightly that I had to click that one through the window, too.

Thank you for all you do.

Good Morning jewelies! It is 56 here! Lucky and Holly are BBF! I hope shadow continues to miss those pos hunters hope all of them bears do. i really think she is has done her job with having cubs. wish she would not come in heat anymore.

Hi JP! Hope you do okay today. Hope Raymond does a good job of driving you there and back. What a game last night jp! first inning natl got that homer we came back in the third got three runs they come back in the fourth and got a run they came back again in the sixth and got three more runs!  here they are again in the 8th with another run but we got one too. so they got 6 we got 4 heading into the ninth we hold them now we are up at bat lets go royals sister here watching with me..we got 3 runs in the 9th!! we win 7-6!! today is an afternoon game!

Hi Ra! well like you said they left the check but could of saved you a trip. maybe something came up at the last minute or they forgot. but you do have other places to clean not like oh you are ready for me well let me drop everything and run right over! I know what a good night for me. royals won and cruz quit and bernie beat out hillary. all kinds of stuff going on.  kasick  :D needs to quit too. they said that mario rubio had more delegates than he does and he quit awhile back.

Hi Obsver! i bet my old vet ed was at that deal too eastern was at. him and pam have a ton of sheep and they spin and dye wool all the time. pam has made ed all kinds of neat stuff. socks hats sweaters all kinds of stuff. she has a spinning wheel. she was showing me all her stuff when me and missy were over there. wanted me to come take a lesson and learn too i do not have time for that but it was neat seeing her do it. their daughter christen does that too. Missy saw ed last week riding his bike. he rides in all kinds of bike races all over the usa. she stopped her car and yelled ED! he was so happy to see her. told her new baby sheep and goats at his place to get me and come see them. i will find time for that! no one has suggested laser treatment for my toe.
