A few days ago, winter coat--today, shorts & t-shirt!!!! Wow, jewels, this is crazy, but I'll take it!  Cal & bischue, I'm so happy that you guys were able to meet. How beautiful you both are! Bischue, your twin is living 7 miles from me. Don't know her name, but she looks just like you. Makes me wish all the more that we could ALL get together!!! Wouldn't we have fun? Rues, I'm about due for a haircut. How can it sometimes look good, wash it, and suddenly it doesn't?  Ra, sounds like you've been busy! Bet everything looks good. Glad your daughter found a car. Nora, glad Joe is having less pain. Jp, always good to hear from you. Hi, Dlong, neva, Willi, deb, Eaglette, chippy!!!  Cal, eat the orange!!!!!!!

It took 92 year old, slow poke , JP 10:48 to work Babe's puzzle.  It's the mouse's fault.

Hi Jewelies!  Nice and warm here, around 80.  Got my mulch all spread, but I'll need about 25 more bags!!  My neighbor brought me a dozen of her chicken's eggs.  Said it's payment for the chickens coming over in my yard and messing everything up!  lol  The five chickens come here and scratch in my mulch and leaves, looking for bugs.  I don't mind... I can fix the mess they make.  First time we've talked in a long time.  I didn't tell you all about my bad Handsome yesterday, did I?  When the girls came over, they said Handsome was on the other side of the neighbor's house, out by the road, sitting on a stump.  They went and got him and chased him home.  Boy, was he in trouble!  You better get your a$$ back home... now!! lol   I grounded him for the rest of the night and part of the morning.

Decorah North Nest has it's first eaglet now.

cal... What kind of flowers did you get?  Pulling weeds is a horrible job!  I always wear gloves when I garden... don't want to get any bad spider bites, or fire ant bites, or yellow jacket stings, or snake bites...  It's a dangerous world I live in!!  lol  Do you think that little school bus would be big enough??  lol  Is JIm at the lake this weekend?

JP... I wonder if Kurtis and the other bear in the pic are related... they both have white on their chests.  Good thing you can blame the mouse... you have a good excuse!  lol

blschue... Glad you made it home!

obsver... Good to see your smiling face!

Hi everyone!

rues... Did you watch the Blacklist YET??

If rues has watched the Black List, feel free to talk about it. I have it recorded, haven't watched it but have read the spoilers so know what happened. Mr. O doesn't see how I can do that. I've been known to look ahead at the ending in books, too!  Ra, keep those snakes & fire ants down there!! As you know, we have snakes up here but rarely see any.

Hi Jewelies! I'm alive just worn out! We have been working outside in the yard for the past few days. We finished .with those boards we were putting down at the bottom of the new fence. Sort of looks like baseboard! It looks so good that we bought more boards and put them down on the fence we put up last summer. Then we moved my rain barrel from outside the fence behind the garage to inside the fence. Then we went to Robin's and installed a new kitchen faucet. She has been wanting one of those faucets that has the retractable sprayer. We found a Moen at Sam's last week reduced to $90! It was 50% off! Then today we power washed the deck. I've been so tired each evening that I've been falling asleep around 9. And I am out of shape! There's still more to do. When the weather warms up, it seems we have to get everything done right now! Lol!

Cal, I love your pic with Blschue! You two look so nice! I'm so happy you guys got together! I did see Hyacinth yesterday morning...it was the one you saw couple weeks ago with Hyacinth volunteering to pick up the Commodor! The rest of the Brit Coms were pre empted with a Democrat debate for governor. There's 3 guys running for governor in our May primary. Did you eat your orange yet? Lol!

Ra, no I still haven't watched Blacklist!  :o It's on my to do list tomorrow to watch it! Bet your porch and yard look so good! That bad boy Handsome! Glad nothing happened to him! Took Wilson and Tela home a little while ago because their mom was on her way home. We love those 2 cats!

Blschue, glad you got home safely! You and Cal look so good in that pic! Glad you got to stop and visit with her!

Nora, bet the little girl will like Chester just as she did Sparky! Hope Joe is doing well.

Jp, glad your mouse was an easy fix!

Obsver, it was 80 here today and supposed to be 82 tomorrow! I took some of my house plants outside to the screened porch today. I'm hoping all that cold weather is far behind us now. Got our haircut last Tuesday and Anne did a good job!

I have posted Jewel many times but I like this picture.

This morning I seem to be running on empty.  I hope that later I will find a filling station and get my engine running smoothly.

I hope everyone can make this Monday a fun day.

Daily Updates
Spring - UPDATE April 17, 2016
17 April 2016
Print Email
Two days in a row with highs in the mid 70?s F made big changes. Woods Lake out the window Doe and fawn
Doe and fawn
went from starting to open yesterday morning to 70% open this afternoon, and the ice on the big lakes around here turned black. If the warm weather continues, they will be open in the next few days. Robinson Lake, another shallow lake like Woods Lake is already mostly open. Snow is down to scattered patches, and the road along Eagles Nest Lake One is passable.

At Woods Lake the last few days, at least 7 bald eagles have been scavenging winter-killed fish that were frozen in the ice. As the lake opened, the eagles swooped down to snatch them floating on the water. Today, 3 gulls joined them, but we didn?t get a visit until late in the day. We don?t know which one it is, but it?s one of the tame ones from last year.

Herring Gull
Herring Gull
It must not have found enough fish because it ate nearly two pounds of suet plus a dead mouse, making its neck bulge. According to the bird books, herring gulls only weigh about 2 ? pounds, but it still flew buoyantly. The gull showed that it can carry a larger percentage of its weight than a gray jay can (Rogers, L. L. 2005. Weight-carrying ability and caching behavior of Gray Jays, Perisoreus canadensis: Adaptations to boreal winter. The Canadian Field-Naturalist 119(1):101-104.).

Deer
White-tailed deer
No bears sighted in the community yet, although April 17 was the date of the first sighting last year.

At the Bear Center, Holly and Lucky went for a swim together and were all over the place. From yesterday, the staff captured a nice video of Lucky and energetic Holly playing and staying together as usual. https://www.facebook.com/ TNTschocke/videos/ o.139730642706794 /10154107376800682/?type=2&theater
