Staff and volunteers compared 2014 and 2015 denning dates and weights for the four bears.

Ted in 2014 denned on November 14 in the Haven. His last recorded weight was 702.5 pounds on October 7.

Ted in 2015 denned on November 7 in the Chalet. His last recorded weight was 704 pounds on October 17.

Honey in 2014 denned on November 16 in the Window Den. Her last recorded weight was 513 pounds on November 8.

Honey in 2015 denned on November 15 in the Haven. Her last recorded weight was 515 on November 3.

Lucky in 2014 denned on November 5 in the large Bunker Den. His last recorded weight was 461 pounds on October 9.

Lucky in 2015 denned on October 14 in the large Bunker Den with Holly. His last recorded weight was 479 pounds on October 4.

Holly in 2014 denned on November 7 in a den she dug. Her last recorded weight was 153 pounds on October 9.

Holly in 2015 denned on October 27 in the large Bunker Den with Lucky. Her last recorded weight was 247 pounds on September 26.

Weight loss by April 1, 2015, was: 92 pounds (13 %) for Ted, 87 pounds (17%) for Honey, and 68.5 pounds (15%) for Lucky. Weight loss by April 3, 2015, was 37 pounds (24%) for Holly.

What does it all mean? Why did Ted and Honey have similar denning dates in November each year but Lucky and Holly denned 22 and 11 days earlier, respectively, this fall despite record-setting warm temperatures in October? No one knows.

Holly obviously ate at least her share of food this past year, gaining 94 pounds (61%) since last fall. More impressive is that she gained 131 pounds (113%) between April 3, 2015 (116 pounds) and September 26, 2015 (247 pounds), gaining nearly three quarters of a pound per day during those 176 days.


Out the window, Woods Lake had snow-covered ice yesterday but had dark, melting ice by the end of this 40F? day. The tracks of a passing mink were frozen into the ice, showing how it alternately slid and walked.

One of the things I?m thankful for on this Thanksgiving Eve is Lily Fans who give me a feeling of support like I didn?t know was possible before 2010. Thank you.

To show my thankfulness for my wife Donna, I?m taking the day off to spend with her tomorrow. Looking forward to it. We don?t know where we?ll end up, so no update tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

I am very thankful for so many things.  Most of all for my being here to realize that fact.

My sore throat has developed into a miserabłe cold.  My nose is really running, so much so that I will enter it into the world champion nose race.

I anticipate getting my new computer Saturday.

My son and DIL went to their house in north Florida so I am going to enjoy my turkey dinner solo.

Good evening Jewelies! Hope everyone had a nice day. Here it got up to 70 this afternoon! Had to open the back door because it got so warm in the kitchen with the oven on! It wouldn't be a holiday around this house without pics of Robin and her babies! So here they are...

Robin and Wilson. He was a little more agreeable this time! Probably because he didn't have to wear a silly hat! :D



and finally...Robin and Tela! Her first holiday pic at grandma's! :D She was stuffed into the upside down turkey hat!



Wilson was enjoying the back porch so much that Robin left him here to spend the night. Gives him a little break from his annoying baby sister! :D

Cal, did you find any good deals in the ads? Robin and I went to Walmart this afternoon to look at an iPhone we had seen online. My gosh, we had never seen so much merchandise wrapped in black plastic stacked up and down the aisles just waiting for the sales to begin. And they had areas roped off and I think every employee of the store was there. By the time we left hoards of people were coming into the store! :o  Had to laugh at Boo Boo falling off the couch! Glad he wasn't hurt! Our Boo has fallen off my bed twice in the night with a thud. Thankfully never hurting himself, just scaring me to death! Hope you didn't get that freezing rain. Hope that Babe's day continued to be a good one! Was the Mex restaurant open? I know the Chinese and Japanese restaurants were open here but didn't go far enough down the toad to see if the Mex one was.

Jp, hope you feel better and had a nice meal.

Willi, aww sweet Ivy. A  very special Pilgrim.

Dlong, I forgot to thank you last night for your nice pics! Those pies looked so good! Are they all gone now?  How nice your family will be visiting you for the Christmas holidays!

Hi Jewelies!  We didn't have very many at our get-together today... One of the uncles is in the hospital, one is in rehab from knee replacement... their families were with them instead of with us.  The turkey was nice and moist... SIL's mom said she cooked it upside down, so the juice went down into the breast instead of into the pan. 

rues... Thanks for sharing Robin's pics with us!  She's always so cute with her holiday hats!  My daughter has a sweater just like the one Robin has on!  Wilson is a big, big boy now, isn't he?  It was a beautiful warm day here today, too.

cal... I DID see part of a bear... by accident.  I tried to have "my blinders on", but turned at the wrong minute.  Makes me sick.  He did have a very cool carved wooden bear in the yard that would look better in my yard than his... I love bears a lot more than he does.  It's about 4 feet tall and rustic looking.  Glad Babe was having a good day.  Where did you end up eating?  Did you get that awful rain/freezing rain?  Are you ready for Black Friday?  Got your list ready, and your route all planned out?  lol

JP... I hope you feel better real soon! 

obsver... I got my daughter a heated mattress pad for Christmas and gave it to her today, so she can start enjoying the warmth now, instead of having to wait. lol   She was going straight home and putting it on their bed!  I'm glad you told us about yours.

Neva... Good to see you!  Did you have most of the family there today?

Nora and blschue... I hope you don't have any snow left... plenty of time for that!  Right?  What did you guys do for dinner today?

dlong... Did you have a nice time with your family today?

willi... I miss Ivy and hearing about her.  I can imagine how much YOU miss her!  How old is Henry?

Oh my gosh! This is me right now:



The dinner was wonderful! There were several babies there and none of them had crying fits; the toddlers were corralled by their parents and did no damage to human, animal, or furniture and the adults had NO disagreements! We all ate until we were in food comas.

It has been raining so hard here and it really got cold. It's been raining for hours. We are under a severe weather advisory for freezing rain! I guess winter has arrived! 

Obsver I forgot to tell you that I love Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. I am signed up at the library for #22 as soon as all the people ahead of me read it. I wish they would hurry!

JP Hope you are feeling lots better!

Ra Glad the turkey was good.

Willi Loved the pic of Ivy. I always looked forward to seeing the holiday & birthday pics. What a sweetheart and I miss her too.

Cal I know you are getting this rain too. Your barn will be a big mess. So sorry you have to deal with all that. Boo Boo fell off the couch and made a big thump! I bet it scared him!

My son is in San Diego celebrating Thanksgiving and their 23rd anniversary. He sent me this picture after the rain stopped. It is so pretty there. It was pouring down there earlier and they were warning people of "King Waves". That is extremely high tides.

 

Yesterday evening Bei Bei was trying to crawl to his mom, but the floor is too slick for him to get his little feet under him and propel him forward. As you can see, Mei eventually joined him on the floor for a cuddle.

 







This sweet picture of Mei Lun & Mei Huan was on their Facebook today. They are so cute!


 


I hope you all have a restful night and I hope I don't wake up to ice on the streets in the morning!  ;)
