It took me 5:43 to figure out we can't afford the cat.

Shadow.  She is beginning to  show her age at 29 years old.

I have to be to the urologist's office at 9 this morning so I will hope we all have a nice Tuesday.

At the NABC Ted walked out to the pond. A Lily Fan recorded his appearance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeWJCUIWS6s

Oh THAT's the Corey Dog story.  I thought maybe it was Corey's dog.  I can just picture him with that tail going :)  Good luck at the dentist.

I hope your appointment went ok JP, that doesn't sound like fun.  :(

I have a couple things to do and will see how long that bird can perch there afterwards.   We had 1/2 inch of rain last night and has been cloudy so far today and 61.

Cal, I am soooo happy for you! Now no worries when the power goes out! Dropped Robin off at the airport this afternoon. She landed in Charlotte, NC at 7pm and is getting ready to board the plane to London right now! It's a 7hr 50 min flight. My kid is going to England! I probably won't sleep a wink tonight!

Lorie

I wish all a wonderful Wednesday.  As for here we probably will get more rain, the real spirit dampener.

My visit to the urologist resulted in "everything looks good" and he wants me to check back in 10 days.  I really like it when the doctors say that everything looks good.

Daily Updates
Tasha, Lily, Ember, Jack - UPDATE September 13, 2016
13 September 2016
Print Email
At the Bear Center, Tasha is spending her first night out of her pen with Holly. Lucky and Ted are in their pens.

In Eagles Nest Community, we were told Lily and Ember were again spotted on a trail camera in the wee hours of this morning.One-eyed Jack - July 9, 2016
One-eyed Jack - July 9, 2016

Our beloved Jack was seen today 9 miles away, 9 days after we last saw him here. He is fine. This sighting is very unusual. It is the first we have heard of him in that area. We began seeing him in 2003 and named him One-eyed Jack because of his missing left eye. We eventually heard the story of his earlier being shot in the face with a .410 shotgun by an obviously fearful man who wanted to teach him a lesson for eating his neighbors dandelions and not running away. We eventually learned that a year or so before we saw him in 2003 he was already missing his eye. A family was feeding him at their secluded home deep in the woods. This family ended up selling their house to a man who wanted it as a hunting camp. We hoped Jack would never go back there. We don't know that he ever did, but he did occasionally visit a home that has long fed bears just a mile from there. We never heard of him at houses in between these feeding sites--until today. A friend who feeds bears over 9 miles from here recognized him. She said that when she went outside, Jack retreated into the woods but returned when she put food out and went inside--so different from his calm, trusting behavior here. The lady believes he was there the last 3 nights from food that disappeared overnight. This was her first sighting of him in daylight. We're hoping he settles into a den soon. He has to be well into his twenties. The picture of him is from July 9 of this year.

Thank you for all you do.

Yipee on the generator Cal!!  Some areas have sure had the rain, we had enough for a while.

Wow Rues, what a great trip for Robin.  It's amazing that's "all" it takes to get from NC to over there!  I'm sure it's a long 7 hours though.

Cute "good morning" JP!  Wow does Lorie have the claws!  Sure am glad your appointment ended with "everything looks good"!  Is that a doctor locally or did you have to go to Miami?

"Jack retreated into the woods but returned when she put food out and went inside--so different from his calm, trusting behavior here."  That reminds me of a cat I used to have.  Oscar would cross the smaller pasture and visit over at Ray's next door.  He catch sight of Ray and run.  Ray said he knows me, but he always runs from me.  Now if Ray was in my yard and we were outside he'd be right up in Ray's lap.  Guess he knew what was home and anywhere else meant be cautious.  The first time Ray mentioned it he sounded like he felt really bad, but Oscar made up for it next time Ray came to visit.  :D  Ray was almost 80 then.

Maybe those people that bought the cabin hunted, but they might not have been bear hunters.

It's almost 1:00 PM, sunny, breezy, and a great 62.  It's beautiful out, my kind of day!  Good weather for walks or doing stuff outside.  It was down in the low 50's overnight, boy did I sleep great.

I love sitting and watching dams.  I enjoyed it for 4:59 in the 51-crazy.

I never gave bear claws much thought but you are right and they have to have sharp claws the way they so easily go up and down trees.  The urologist is local.

I remember some mighty fine sweet edible pastries called bear claws, m-m-m-m
