Fern and a boyfriend went on a picnic.

I'm getting in my MRI frame of mind.  Prepping my mind for the grunts and groans from the loud machine.

I want Monday to find all Jewlies in good spirits and good weather and that it leaves you with a good taste,

Daily Updates
A Wonderful Weekend - UPDATE July 24, 2016
24 July 2016
Print Email
This was a wonderful weekend with Donna and Lily Fans at the LilyPad Picnic. This little video was a moment of fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snyeE4j_4Yo.

20160724 Crackle
Crackle
So many people made such an effort to make the weekend what it was. Donna was ecstatic. For me, the feeling of being among friends was uplifting to say the least.

Then it was on to the 2nd Black Bear Field Course. I got my first look at Guy of 2016. He was his same old self. His manner stole the heart of a participant from Barbados who remarked that ?he is so self-contained, confident, calm, trusting, and dignified.? A participant from Winnipeg said, ?He has nothing to prove. He is capable of such great strength, but he is so gentle, delicately shelling peanuts. Life is good. He is the very spirit of contentment.?

Beautiful Crackle gave an opportunity to snap his picture in good sun. His look of concern is because I made an odd noise. Jack was wonderful, as usual, even though he told Crackle not to hang out so close to him at one point. Participants learned some naughty bear words in the process.

A good day of bears, conversation, and food. In fact, the food was so good, or the people were so hungry, that only once did everyone get up to see new bear arrivals.

The Lilypad Picnic was another example of Lily Fans being what they are and doing what they do, which is why I confidently write each day, ?Thank you for all you do.?

It took me  5:09, looking for the pirate's lower leg bones, before I realized had had a wooden leg.  AARGH!

That's cute with Fern and boyfriend having a picnic  :D

Cal, about how old is Dee?  I remember years ago a gal we knew real well got it in her early 40's.  She was divorced and the dad had nothing to do with the kids and mom said as soon as she knew she had it that she made arrangements for the kids for when she got bad so she didn't have to worry about them.  She was a nurse, so knew more what she was up against.  :-\

It's 76 and some humidity, but not as bad as it was last week.

Rudy had a bad day didn't he.  I guess when mom & Hailey got peed on in bed that put a damper on their day too.  :D

Thinking about you JP!

Have a good afternoon all........

Oh and I don't know which is worse, a remake of a movie that is real different or a movie that comes out based on a book and is really different than the book.  I think the latter.

I'm here, bischue, suffering with the same heat & humidity that everyone else has!! Took my daughter & grand to the airport to visit my eastern daughter--supposed to have the terrible heat there, too, darn it. They come back Sat. The grand has been holding down 2 jobs, 1 doing patient care at the hospital, and the other one is hostess at a restaurant, so she is ready for a break. She starts college the middle of next month, than she will be 4 hours away. Rues, I was lucky enough to get a perfect haircut again, but I always either show the photo or remind him how I like the sides and the sides of the back. (does that make sense? not the back, but each side of the back) Bischue, I'm ready to come up to Minn. or even beyond to get away from this terrible heat. Ra, thinking of you! Cal, oh boy, girl, hope you have those big dogs housebroken soon. Cleaning up that mess must undoubtedly be quite a drag! Since we sold our herd many years ago, we have hardly any flies. The outside cats are suffering with the heat, but can't you imagine the squalling if I tried to hose them down? Nora, I haven't read any news about where the 2 Decorah transmitted babies have been staying. Do you have any info? Hi, Dlong, Willi, Jp, neva, Eaglette, chippy, deb, pat   !!!!!!!!!   I'll be glad when my kids arrive. Right now, according to the schedule, they are sitting at the airport of their connecting flight, probably fiddling with their phones. Poor sweet scootie--I'll bet he feels bad about making a mess.

Mmm, Cal, those chocolate chip cookies sound so good! Dang it, Jim ate them all! Lol! No wonder he felt sick! Lol! Robin said she liked the new Ghostbuster movie!

Obsver, good to see you! We get our hair cut in the morning. Hope Anne cuts mine shorter this time. When Robin flies, I track her flight online. It actually shows a little plane advancing to the destination. It also has all the flight info like speed, distance, how high up the plane is. Just all kinds of stuff! Crow won't watch. He tells me to just let him know when she is safely on the ground! Your girls will have a ball this week! Your grand is one to be proud of!

Nora, I hate it when they make a movie from a book and then they change it up! Just hate it!

Jp, hope this MRI finds out what's wrong!

Blschue, I turned off my iPad, got into bed ready to watch Rizzoli and Isles and remembered I forgot to say hi to you!  So hi and good to see you! Sounds so nice to be able to open windows and doors! Here you open the door and it feels like you just stuck your head in a heated oven! That's a bunch of pics to scan! Hope you get your computer back soon!

Donna, Good looking older lady bear.

My MRI went all right.  It was a long one, about 45 minutes.  Won't know the results for a few days  Here's a memento.

The Marlins have lost 3 of their last 4 games.  Going downhill.

Now that I have your attention, I  wish all a great Tuesday.  We have and will continue to have rain.

Daily Updates
Lily, Fern, Donna, and the Life of Jewel - UPDATE July 25, 2016
25 July 2016
Print Email
It was a day of renewing contact with special bears. That was part of a super day in which the Black Bear Field Course participants were invited to community feeding 20160725 Lily
Lily the Black Bear
stations where bears are treated like royalty.

9-year-old Lily was a highlight with all she means. I sat on the ground beside her. She ignored me but knew who I was. I?m glad she ignores me. It is that comfort that enables her to show us how she lives and lets us place Den Cams as she calmly watches. Has that lack of fear of a few researchers and others she has gotten to know made her a problem? Not at all. She has gone on to raise four litters and show the world a lot about bear life without being a nuisance.

20160725 Donna
Donna
As with Lily, I sat beside Donna and remembered the time over 16 years ago when she slept on my lap as a 3-month-old cub. That same comfort level is there today. Donna is another bear that has shown us a lot as she went about her wild life without a problem.

With Fern, a first-time mom, we straightened out an error in the sexes of her cubs. She has 2 males and a smaller cub that is a female.

Then Jewel and her three cubs (also 2 males and a female) came on the scene. Fern and her cubs headed for the treetops while Jewel lived a life of luxury. On this hot day, she soaked in a tub, then dined at a picnic table like a privileged human. She put the run on an adolescent female that thought she should enjoy the same privileges. Not to be. We saw that Jewel?s cubs are doing very well.

Out the window, a gull was calling for food, perhaps wanting the life of Jewel.

Out on the lake, wildlife abounded, including a double-crested cormorant that we rarely see. A hooded merganser was in the flightless stage of molting. And a song sparrow greeted our return to the dock with a song.

We are still feeling the glow of this past weekend's time with Lily Fans at the LilyPad Picnic. Thank you to everyone who made that possible. Next year?s picnic is scheduled for July 21-23 (2017).

Thank you for all you do.

Obsver, this is from Sunday from RRP:
The eagle maps are back! While D25 remains a bit of a home-birdy, D24 has begun to widen his ranging! Will we see a mid-August departure, or will the eagles wait to leave? Will both of them disperse together? We are looking forward to finding out!
If you are interested in more detail, we have interactive maps that show the travels of our eagles by month, cluster maps that group eagle ranging by frequency, .PDF maps that can be viewed and downloaded, and a make-a-map feature that allows users to choose the date ranges and eagles they want to see. To play with the maps, follow this link: http://www.raptorresource.org/eagle-map/

Cal, sorry Scootie had another seizure  :(  Thanks for the pictures, always easier to "see" what someone is talking about that way.

Glad the kids got to go for a visit out east Obsver.

Aww the horses came in so nice Cal.  Good looking kids.  The insulation looks good.

82, feels like 85, and 66 dew point.

Daily Updates
A Day of Learning - UPDATE July 26, 2016
26 July 2016
Print Email
This group of Black Bear Field Course participants has a thirst for knowledge. They chose to hear 4 grueling presentations over Guy
Guy
all else?punctuated by bear visits when nothing could hold them in their seats. That?s 4 presentations on top of 2 yesterday. At least they are eating well. They all seem contented. It did help that the bears included Shadow, Bow, Daisy, Guy, V-Dot, and others, with the evening onslaught to come yet.

Daisy solved a mystery. We wondered what had happened to her. Did she have cubs? Then she showed with no cubs. She is now 5, which means she will likely have her first litter at 6. 29-year-old Shadow was here before dawn. In that light, her new coat looked whiter on her face and crown than last year. We?re hoping to see and photograph her in good light to document her aging.

The picture is gentle, laid-back Guy with his sleepy looking eyes. He is very calm and tolerant with people, but he showed he can move when he told Big Harry to ?get? a couple days ago. The two vocalized with their noses inches apart, but they never touched. Jewel was even more emphatic going after Bow?s yearling daughter Nancy yesterday, but again they didn?t touch. All talk and body language. A couple minutes later, they were calm again.

The update of Shadow?s Clan (click here) is taking shape for this year. We still have to get the sexes of Sophie?s 2 cubs and Summer?s 2 surviving cubs.

Thank you for all you do.
