I watched the guy drowning struggle for 7:11.  Yesterday I really thought that "sick dog" might have turned around, but he didn't.  ;)

Hi Jewelies! Had a mammogram early this morning! Somehow I forgot to schedule one last year! Now I need to have my eyes tested. After that, I should be done with medical stuff for awhile!

Cal, the bear center sure will be busy with 100+ kids there! How nice they have such a place to learn about bears and other wildlife! Hope Dr Rogers gets his computer working! I'm still not totally using my new laptop. Crow is having trouble getting my email set up on it. And something about Yahoo isn't right. So I'll just keep using my old one! Hope you don't get too much rain! Did you see all that rain Texas is getting?

Jp, my Uncle Ralph lived all his life in Pittsburgh and loved the Pirates! If he were alive I know he would have been thrilled with the game! I just love Victor.

Obsver, the book Crow is reading now is Tim Dorsey's Coconut Cowboy! I got rid the dust bunnies today! I gave this house a good cleaning. Now I can start reading my next book!

Here's a picture of Lucky.

It is June and I hope it is a good month for all.  It is the start of hurricane season and we all hope it is a mild one.

A rainy day yesterday dampened my spirits and I had a restless night with thunder keeping me awake a lot.  To day will be drier and I feel good this morning.

My thoughts go out to all for a fine day.

Daily Updates
Little Things, a Little Bear, and Lily - UPDATE May 31, 2016
31 May 2016
Print Email
The big thing is the bears are coming to the WRI now. Two nights ago, a mother (RC?) was here with four cubs to the delight of Veronica and family. Last night, as I was putting Jewel's cub
Jewel's little cub
together the second of my two talks for the International Bear Conference, a bear was outside the window that I didn?t look closely enough at. I thought it was the male. Now I think it was Jewel. I noticed when there suddenly was a cute little blue-eyed cub sitting next to her. I went out to see better, but Jewel left.

Lily on her way out
A visiting Lily on her way out
So far, we?re seeing RC and four cubs, Jewel and three cubs, and Sophie and two cubs here. Another feeding site we?ll take Black Bear Field Course participants to had twelve bears in the yard several times lately. Victor and his mate Shannon were two of them. Donna and her three remaining yearlings are four more, plus the others. Veronica had a blast there a couple days ago. The bears were there until mid-morning and again starting mid-afternoon. The courses are all during the hyperphagia period, so bears will be busting out all over.

My daughter and her family are back in Michigan. I still marvel how little Veronica casually petted the chipmunk while it filled its cheeks and then started to lift it up and inch or so. The chipmunk didn?t panic. It just kept on trying to reach the sunflower seeds. She let it go, and it kept on working.

Out the window, a couple days ago a ruby-throated hummingbird was sitting in poor light but I grabbed the camera anyway. The bird was looking drab. I clicked anyway, but just as I clicked it took off to fly to the feeder and it was if a red spotlight came on to light its way.

Hummingbird     Tame gull    Less-tame gull

In good light yesterday, the tame gull landed and I took an ID shot of its head showing the faded-looking orange spot on the bill and the shape of the left nostril opening. A few minutes later, the less-tame gull came for an ID shot showing the much brighter and bigger orange spot on the bill and the much narrower back portion of the nostril opening.

Common Loon
Common Loon
When it was time for a stretch, a loon was heading for the dock, so I grabbed the camera. When I got there, the loon was far away. They can swim fast underwater. I knelt down and began swishing the water. The loon was obviously interested, just as a beaver was a few weeks ago. It dove and came up halfway to me. More swishing. It dove and came up thirty feet away for the picture but quickly lost interest and left.

Just now, Mike pointed up the driveway as Lily was leaving. She is alone, having gone through family break-up. We?ll be looking to see who she hangs out with for mating season. She didn?t seem interested in food. She was cruising, probably laying down a scent trail for a male to follow. I grabbed the camera but wanted more than a show of her going away. I made sounds like a friendly bear, thinking she might respond if she was looking for company. She did. Click. But then saw it was just a human and went on.

Thank you for all you do.

Well shoot blschue i was in a hurry this morning sure enough its that small print. get you every time!!  No free beer for mr bill!! free wii fi but they need the free beer too to lure people in!!

Hi you guys. sister could not come last night as she had to renew her car tags over in kansas. she called earlier crying she got there at 7 am and they told her she had a four hour wait!!!!!!!! she called at 8 and said she had 3 hours more!!!! and then be up will take her a couple of hours to get here. i told her not to drive fast. i just emailed my friend duane who lives in olathe too and asked him what the deal was over there. i looked for a place down by susie. only a 25 min drive down that way and maybe awhole lot faster. sure am happy i live rural.  sister phone bill went sky high and i said why is that she said she had to get text for the license bureau to text her. i said say what. that is stupid sister. i don't have text mom never had it sure alot people don't. that place can call you when it is finally your turn. she only uses text once a year. i said you got that so you can sit outside and smoke and smoke and smoke..paying 50.00 a month more for that. just that. i told her i will go with you when that is up and change your phone bill back for you. and i will find another place to get them tags too. mo only every two years kansas every year you got to get them.

Cal, she HAD to get text?  What about people without cellphones?  That doesn't make sense to me.

Blschue how great you get up north, it's wonderful up there.  Sorry about the situation with your mom's house.

That little cub is adorable to put it mildly!

The flooding down south has sure been bad in so many places this year, wow.  :(

Ahhhh... Finally!  Hi Jewelies!  I've had a heck of a time getting my laptop to work.  I think it's working ok and it turns itself off.  Been doing this for a couple of days now.  Hope it doesn't go belly up on me!!  Also, hope I can finish this before it decides to shut off again.

cal... I think you need to quit doing your puzzles in circles... JP said a bad word.  lol  Something doesn't sound right about Polly having to get text on her phone!  Never heard of that before!  Couldn't she just say she doesn't text, call me?  Glad nobody has ever told me I had to have text!!   :o  That flooding is just plain sad.

Nora... Cute slippers!!  Your sister lives in TX, doesn't she?  Has she been affected by the floods?

blschue... Thanks for the pics and the sounds of the North!  That sign was funny!  Yes, I'm almost done packing!  lol

obsver... I can't imagine rolling my clothes before putting it in the suitcase!  Seems like the stuff on the bottom would be a real mess... once it gets smashed by all the other stuff.

JP...  Did you get a lot of rain yesterday?  We're in out summertime pattern this week... hot and humid with a thunderstorm every afternoon.  Today I had some small hail, and yesterday on the other side of town, they had some big, destructive hail.

rues...Did you get your other lantana?  Can't believe you dropped one!  I would have planted it somewhere anyway.  It would probably be fine.  The one I bought at the high school is supposed to grown to 5 or 6 feet tall... it has a LONG way to go!!  lol  It's about 6 inches tall now, and that's after about a month in the ground!  lol   Maybe it needs some extra Miracle Grow...

Hi to everyone!  I'm pushing my luck with this thing.  So I better go.  Hope everyone is doing good!
