Morning Jewelies! Whew, it's hot outside! 83 at 10:20! Heading towards 90! Humid, too! Gotta hurry because Crow wants to mow before it gets too hot out! I'm so glad that his hand and wrist weren't as bad as the doctor thought they were, otherwise I'd be doing all the mowing! Bbl!

Hi Cal! I ended up mowing part of the yard when I saw Crow pushing the mower with only his left hand! He said his right hand was really hurting. Hope he didn't hurt that incision and stitches. I did come inside to check and see what episode of Hyacinth was on. Guess which one? If you guessed the one where they took the senior citizens to the beach with that sick lady, you'd be right! Lol! Now you be sure to watch tonight's episode so I'll know what's on next week! Lol! My section of town is no longer under the do not drink the water advisory! There is a section in the south end of town actually at Home Depot's parking lot where our 2 cities water lines are only a few feet apart. So they were able to make a connection there and now I have Parkersburg water. They say only a third of our city will be able to get Parkersburg's water. I really think they were mainly concerned about the restaurant businesses and getting them back to normal. In that one third section of town there are 21 restaurants! No wonder everyone around here, including me, needs to go on a diet! Robin lives in Pakersburg and I always complain to her how awful her water tastes! But I'm not complaining now! Thank you Parkersburg for helping us out! Chemours, once called DuPont, has taken responsibility and are installing carbon filters at our water treatment plant. May take 6 weeks but once installed  the water will be compliant with the EPA standards. The city is still passing out bottled water but now they worry about the disposal of all those bottles. They are begging folks to please recycle them. They have recycle bins at each of the water distribution sites. Glad those horrible tornadoes stayed away from you! Watching them on tv is scary. I can't imagine seeing one in person! That pic of Lucky napping on the log is just precious! I just want to hug him!

Ra, I read yesterday that Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina will have the 17 year cicadas next year! The cicadas here are called Brood V and next years's is called Brood VI! We drove to Charleston yesterday to put flowers on Crow's dad and grandpa's graves. We were driving down the interstate 70mph, windows up, ac on, radio on and we could still here the cicadas! They must be deafening in person! I laugh every time you mention the no steak steak house! Lol! When do you leave for the beach? Are you packed yet? Lol!

Obsver, you would be so proud of me! I started reading a book Thursday when I went to prison! Lol! Actually Robin had to meet with her client in a maximum security prison about 3 hours from here. I rode along to keep her company. Once there, I waited in the car outside the prison gate. That's where the book reading comes in! I bought the book Big Stone Gap months ago and just never got around to reading it! So I read for the hour she was in the prison. I think I'll stay inside out of the heat this afternoon and read some more!

Jp, love Donna's pic! If you see a 70 something year old man with his blonde hair in a pony tail running around Key West the next couple weeks....that would be Crow's dentist! He has a house down there somewhere! Lol!

Hi Nora!

It took me 9:16 to throw the conductor, stick and all.

I have to admit that my reflexes are slowing down considerably and I don't like that.  I am still able to do things but at a much slower pace.  One of the problems is that there is no one around my age that I know so I  do not have anyone to share experiences with.  There are so many things that we do normally that I can not do any more.  An example is changing the burned out light bulbs in the ceiling lamps.  I used to be able to climb up the step ladder and do the job.  Now, I wobble and up on the step ladder is a frightening experience so I have to find someone to  do the job  for me.  I hate that, having to rely on someone else.  I get a sharp pain in, say, my thigh, (I get a lot of strange pains in various parts of my body) and I wonder if I should go to a clinic.  But then I think how foolish it seems to go and tell a doctor I had this pain, once, but it has not returned, so I don't go and I keep  wondering if it is something serious and going to return or what. Obviously if it starts recurring I have to have it looked into. I can't go out walking because my back has me limited (fortunately the stores, for the most part, have shopping carts so I can use them like a walker and get around) but activity outside is so limited that I, basically, live a very narrow life.  SSo many little things I can no longer accomplish.

I am  sorry that I have dumped this on you.  I just felt like venting about being old.  I am certainly grateful that I am here to have the situation as it is, and I am in good shape.  All  my doctors have me on maintenance, like every 4 to 6 months check ups. Maybe this is part of being a GOM.

Hi Jewelies!  Hot again.

JP... It took you longer to do the puzzle, because you threw the conductor, too.  The rest of us just threw the stick.  lol  I think you're doing fantastic for your age!  I have noticed in the past probably five years, that I am slower and admit to not being able to do some things and I'm a LOT younger than you.  Getting old is definitely not for sissies!  It's ok to be a GOM, just think of all the people that don't even make to your age, or are sitting in a nursing home, basically lifeless... just an empty shell of who they used to be.  Now, do you feel better or have I depressed you further?  lol

rues... It's ok for Crow to use one hand, isn't it?  Or is it dangerous?  He probably feels like he needs to do something to help, and should remember that he just had surgery and I think you are so nice that you agree with me.  lol  We leave a week from today, and yes, I have started packing.  I'm so OCD that I have a list on my computer that I can print out every time I go on vacation... things to take and things to do.  Doesn't seem to change much from trip to trip.  I work on checking stuff off as I do it, or pack it.  lol I usually start a month before we leave!  lol  Do you think JP will see Crow's dentist?  lol  I picture Key West having a LOT of older men with ponytails.  lol

cal... I was thinking that Lucky looks just like a dog, shaking that burlap from side to side!  lol  They sure are a playful bunch of bears!  I wonder if a bear in the wild found a piece of cloth in the woods, would it play with it, too?  Maybe the DNR has seen a bear do this and figured it's what's left of the man it killed.  lol  Is it still supposed to be stormy there today?  I hope not.  You need to mow, right?

I've been outside working on getting some of the weeds and stuff out of the "wild" side of my driveway.  There isn't any grass on that side, except on the shoulder of the road, so small trees and weeds grow up there.  It's looking pretty unkempt (why does unkempt have an m in it??), so I've been trying to clean it up little by little.  Too hot to stay out there and do the whole job.  BBL, Jewelies!  Hi everyone!

This is Hope

Well, anther oversleep as I was up late again watching the Marlins lose.  Actually,  I woke up with a start as I was dreaming and realized I had lost my wallet.  I went to pay for something I had purchased and reached in my pocket for my wallet and nothing there.  I am glad it was only a dream.

I look forward to this day, Sunday, and hope all Jewelies have a great one

Daily Updates
A Nature Day with Veronica - UPDATE May 28, 2016
28 May 2016
Print Email
Today has long been set aside as a nature day with granddaughter Veronica (11). With her mother (my daughter Kate) and her husband Adam, we started at the Bear Center Lucky
Lucky
photographing bears and squirrels together. Meeting Ted was a highlight. While I talked to a couple Lily Fans, Veronica colored a picture for me.

Dragonfly
Dragonfly
Then we went to the Wildlife Research Institute and photographed a dragonfly. But what Veronica wanted to see was a chipmunk. One of our fondest memories is from 4 years ago when a chipmunk sat on our hands to fill its cheeks time and again, so the hit of today was a chipmunk appearing at the WRI. I never touch the chipmunks. Veronica did. I couldn?t believe her way with animals. When she got inside, she wrote this report. In her words,

?Today on 5/28/16, Veronica Vincent and Dr. Lynn Rogers went looking for animals. Sitting very still, hidden in plane sight, was a furry brown animal about the size of 2 walnuts stacked on one another. It was the one and only chipmunk! He had 2 white stripes down the side of his back with chubby cheeks. He ran up and down the porch chairs. Waiting for a picture, Veronica and her grandpa (Lynn Rogers) put more seeds out onto the deck. Soon enough, the brown fuzzy chipmunk came scurrying up those porch steps looking for some nuts to hide in his burrow. It was time for action. Veronica put her hand out and put two fingers on the chipmunk?s back! And the chipmunk just kept on eating! Believe it or not, the cute fuzzy critter kept on coming back not afraid of the giant girl he had to face to get his food. This went on for hours. Until next time, Veronica Vincent?

It was a good day.

Thank you for all you do.

Hi Jewelies!  Hot again here, got a couple drops of rain from Bonnie, but that was all.  Lots of flooding down on the coast though.  I stayed inside today and shampooed carpets and did laundry.  Maybe tomorrow, I'll work on my wild side project some more...

cal... Did the Royals win their game today?  Did you get to mow any more?  More rain tomorrow?  Man, you've had a lot of rain!  That dragonfly in the update was creepy looking!  I'd much rather see one normal size!  lol  Did you see the size of the lens on all three cameras??  No wonder they get such good pics!  Nice pic of Ted that Veronica colored!  A talented little girl!

Hi JP and Nora and everyone else!  Hope all are well!

cal, The Marlins finally beat the Braves 7-3.  I never went to a ball game as a kid.  The nearest major league team was in St. Louis and no minor league team in Denver  so all we could do was listen to radio and then it was a reconstructed broadcast, not a live one.  My first major league game was in 1930 when we were having summer vacation in my mother's home town in Michigan and we went over to Detroit to see the Tigers play.  I have been a Tiger fan ever since.  I have no idea what it cost or what the peanuts, popcorn, cotton candy, etc. cost. I have always loved baseball and pushed my sons to play.  Patrick was the star on the Rota Naval Base Little league team in Spain, in 1965.  They  won the Spain-Morocco championship and went to Weisbaden, Germany  to play in the European Championship.  They lost 6-5 on a run to the opposing team in the 6th inning.  Weisbaden, Germany won and as a result went to the  Little League championship in Williamsport, PA
