Action - UPDATE January 7, 2016

This turned out to be a day of action and fun in Holly and Lucky?s den. First, Holly discovered her rubber bowl in the straw and had a good time manipulating it, thoroughly checking it out.

Did that get her started? Less than an hour later, she and Lucky had a great play session. A major activity in play is gentle biting. I remember captive bears playing with me like that. The actions can be fast. They often bite the throat like Holly and Lucky are doing in the video, but it is all gentle. Cub play is not so gentle. They haven?t learned to control their bites yet. They bite too hard for my skin, but they seem to do okay playing rough with each other as cubs. As yearlings, they develop good control. Mothers are exceeding gentle with their bites by the time they give birth and need to gently handle cubs?especially when they pick cubs up and carry them by the head or neck.
The mother in this picture that is a candidate for the upper wall shows a mother moving a cub by carrying it in her mouth. She is tucking it carefully behind her canine teeth so she can hold her mouth loosely open and use the canines as a cradle. When I?ve seen cubs squawk being picked up, the mother immediately dropped them and gently tried again, being very careful with their bites.
Yesterday, a hacker somehow got into our computer. Today, our webmaster purged the computer and reset the passwords to prevent it from happening again. Some further issues remained last night and this morning so we waited to post this until we got word that all was good again.

One Lily Fan asked if their credit card info was safe. The answer from our wonderful web technician is a very solid YES. "We don't keep credit card information on the website. So even if the website's database was compromised, there is no credit card information to be found."
We?re looking for interns for next year as this ad shows.
