DLONG I see you mentioned the S word for Minneapolis this weekend.  Shame on you!  ;) We should be ok in NE Iowa. Saturday through Wednesday highs are to be 52, 61, 71, 70, and 66.  Cold at night though.

Those little ghosts dancing around the tree are adorable!  Wonder what is underneath the sheet.

One of my favorite pictures of the ferocious black bears.  This is Lucky in attack mode.

I did not get to bed until after 11 last night as I  was watching the Royals win.  So just a greeting as I am going back to bed.

Everyone of you have my hopes and wishes for a good Saturday.

Leaf Fall - UPDATE October 16, 2015

Icy water droplets on big-toothed aspen leaf
Icy water droplets on big-toothed aspen leaf
The pretty maple leaves that arched over WRI?s driveway on October 10 are down and being covered with big-toothed aspen leaves. Raindrops from yesterday froze overnight as you can see on the big-toothed aspen leaf. More leaves were ready to come down after the frost. Big-toothed aspen leaves showered down with each gust of wind this morning. Dramatic against the blue sky.

After the mention last night of chickadees feeding from our hands, a Lily Fan sent a link to an article about how to get birds to do that. http://www.birdsandblooms.com/birding/attracting-birds/feeding-birds/feeding-birds-hand.

Tomorrow, a group of Lily Fans will help cut the top 60 feet off the dead white pine that leans toward the WRI Cabin. Cross your fingers. We?ll cut it about 3 feet below where I tied the rope the other day.

On Sunday morning early, Donna and I head for Winnipeg 7 ? hours away for The Wildlife Society conference to talk about what we all saw on the Den Cams. The talk is at 11:20 AM CDT in the RBC Convention Center.

I don?t know how I?ll write updates on the trip, so I suspect we?ll lose this communication for a few days.

Thank you for all you do.

I looked at that camera for 3:41 and determined that it is not repairable.

JP, Lucky looked SO ferocious with that cardboard tube  :D

Well the hydrangea is done for the season, last night did it.  The plants on the porch are looking good yet.

That was a nice article on hand feeding birds.  Sunflower seeds wouldn't last a day around here with all the squirrels if I put a small feeder on a tree.  :(  We have a yard full of buried black walnuts and we don't even have a walnut tree.  Don't get me wrong, I like squirrels and they're really cute, but sometimes.....................

You can borrow my winter stuff Cal.  CA is probably already there though, it's 2:00.

Hi Jewelies! I turned my furnace on this morning! And it smelled awful for a couple minutes! I know you all know that burnt hair or dust smell! Icky! We had a light frost last night but a statewide freeze warning out for tonight and tomorrow night. The high today has only been 49 and very windy!  I planted daffodil bulbs this afternoon. Can't wait for spring now! :D

Cal, did you find your gloves? Bet you and CA are having fun! Today Hyacinth put an ad in the paper as a hostess. The men that wanted to hire her thought she was a strip tease artist! The Rose we like had really big hair today :D

Nora, Robin has a lot of squirrels in her neighborhood because of all the oak trees, I guess. The squirrels come in three colors red, gray and black. The problem is her street is a busy thru street with lots a traffic. Those little squirrels don't look before crossing and there's always a dead one or two in the street. The black squirrels are the smallest. I think they look like kittens. I love all nuts but I absolutely despise black walnuts! I think they are bitter. My older sis always puts them in her baked goods. Yuck!

Jp, lucky sure is having fun! Hope you got all your sleep in!

Ra, did you get any yard work done today?

Cal, you and CA need goggles to protect your eyes! I'm a bit of a sissy and I wouldn't like getting dirty riding 4 wheelers! :D Crow always liked to ride his in the mud. Ewww, wouldn't like that either! I'm laughing about CA being leaf blower cleaned! We never dress up when we go to our Mex restaurant either. Actually we never really dress up to go any where! :D Hope you get a good meal! Did you see the beating the Mountaineers took today? Crow was fuming! Gotta fire that coach! My younger sis used black walnut hulls to make dye for her yarns and baskets. She is like me, she doesn't like the nuts! We both prefer English walnuts! Got to go do some puzzles!

Rues, I've been gone for the last two days, but better late than never, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RUES!!!!!!!!!!  I'm having that cold, windy weather, too. That wind makes being outside unbearably cold!!  Jp, I have to get a bone density test every two years.  Cal, love the leaf blower cleaning! clever   Sounds like ca & you had a wonderful time!  Ra, are the grands having a good year?  Mine will be 18 next month. Neva, good to see you! Nora, we sort of had a light frost last night--didn't have the heart to go out and check on the tomatoes. Hi, bischue, Willi, deb, pat! Dlong, as always, love the pictures. The one showing the panda cuddling her baby just melts the heart.

Hi Jewelies!  Been watching football and eating Halloween candy all day!  lol  I think it was nice out, but not sure.  lol I watched the Michigan/Michigan State game today.  I pull for both of them... until they play each other, then I'm a MSU fan.  My daughter is a Michigan fan.  Looked like Michigan was going to win until they fumbled the ball and MSU got a touchdown just as the game ended!  Yay!

cal... Sounds like you had fun on your 4 wheelers today.  At least you weren't hot and sweaty, you would have been really, really dirty!  lol  Sorry your Wildcats had a bad game today.  Guess you didn't miss much by not watching it.  How was your dinner?  Clemson game is on now, looking good so far... 17-7 not too long and it will be halftime.  Playing Boston College, the Eagles... they're supposed to have the number one defense this year.  Well, halftime and the score is 17-10.  What are you going to do with that mouse if you catch it?  Put it in the barn?

JP... Love the pic of our ferocious bear, Lucky!  lol  He's so cute with his toys!

rues... Glad you had a nice birthday!  I bet you heard those 7 words in Crows man cave, didn't you?  lol  Nope, no yard work today... it's football Saturday!   :D  We had black squirrels in MI, but none down here.  When I was young, I used to hand feed them.  I would put a peanut in the hood of my coat and they would crawl up my arm and into the hood to get them.  Kittens?  lol  I wonder where the line is between you and me where the black squirrels end...

obsver... My grands are doing good.  The oldest one has a boyfriend now... as of yesterday.  lol  The youngest one has been "going out" with her boyfriend for almost a year!  He went to the Clemson game with them today.

Nora... I bet you're going to miss your pretty flowers on the porch when the frost gets them!  Do you cut your hydrangea down for the winter?  I brought my plant in off the porch yesterday... didn't want to take a chance with it... it's the only one I have!  lol  I've accidentally, on purpose, let all my others stay outside too long in the fall.  I'm "over" houseplants.  lol

HI to everyone!

Awww... Poor Handsome!  They are doing fireworks at Oktoberfest and he's scared!  lol  Sticking to my side like glue!   ;D  Looks like my Tigers are going to win... game is almost over and score is 34-17.  I see that cal's Royals won today!!  Yay!

Lily high in a tree, sleeping.

Another late night but worth it. i Royals won so now two games to zero.  Mets won over Cubs.  Football came out pretty much as expected with most of the top teams winning.  Most of my favorite teams won but poor K-State got wiped by Oklahoma.

All my best thoughts for us all to have a really top notch Sunday.  A good way to start the week/\.
