5:39 cool all day.  Just starting to warm up a little. High of 60.
Thanks Cal for puzzle and note.
Cal you would probably think this unusual.  I got up at seven.  Went back to keep warm.  Next thing I know it's 10 am, and I am making coffee.  My day is abbreviated!  It is now 4:57 PM and I just finished my tuna salad sandwich and water lunch.  Who knows when supper may be.  Maybe Not.
Indians are playing New York Yankees right now in Cleveland and I cannot see them on TV.  There aught to be a law.
GO TRIBE.

Action at the North American Bear Center (resending) - UPDATE October 12, 2024

Lucky
Please note: This is the update from 10-12-24. The system somehow failed to send this, so we are re-sending it now. This page will be deleted after sending but you can find the original update here: Original Update from 10-12-24

Sharon sent her Bear News
with beautiful pictures of Lucky, Tasha, and fall color.

Fall News:

The cooler air and nighttime temperatures have finally become conducive to the trees dropping their leaves. The Paper Birch, Quaking Aspens and Maples add color around the main habitat. The drives into work now are spectacular with the changing colors, the lime colored Tamaracks add beauty to the woodlands.

 Maples    Birch
Over the course of the last two weeks, Brandon, with the help of our fall interns collected over 17 bags of dry leaves. Last Friday, Tasha and Lucky received a large bag of leaves.

During the next two weeks the bears will receive more leaves. This year we are only using natural bedding; the bears enjoy raking it into their dens. We will also be giving them some balsam boughs.

Our bears are now in Fall transition. It's hard to get them to come out of their dens for our daily Behind-the-Scene visits. Learn more about the 5 Stages of Hibernation Activity.  https://bear.org/bear-facts/5-stages-of-activity-and-hibernation/

Holly bear is hibernating, her den weight going in 336 lbs. Lucky, our 17-year-old bear is now at a healthy 486 lbs. His winter coat is rich and thick. It glistens in the sun.

Tasha slowing down

Our Tasha bear, better known as the “round one” has slowed down too. Her weight is 401 lbs. She rests near Den 1 and has raked leaves and clover into it. She spends her nights inside the den as does Lucky.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. (Oct. 16, 2024) — A devastating explosion occurred at Hart’s Auto Repair, located at 10 Schwartz Ave., Excelsior Springs, on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in one fatality and one person being injured. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene around 1 p.m. after receiving a distressing 911 call from a woman reporting the explosion.
Witnesses on the ground indicate that the explosion was large and intense, fueled by flammable materials inside the shop, which had been a trusted business in the community since 1989.

A preliminary investigation and eyewitnesses say the owner was using a cutting torch.

He was cutting open the lid of a metal 55 barrel or drum and a chemical reacted by exploding and caused an explosion, catching him, the barrel, a car and the building on fire.

Many family members and loved ones are gathered nearby.

Further updates are anticipated as authorities continue their investigation

the owner was on fire when fire dept got here he did die other in burn center its is behind missys vet clinic and they had everyone there get out.

7 minutes. Oh well.
Beautiful day out here today.  Debbie and I went and voted for Kamala. The line was longer than we have ever seen it at the board.  Kamala is winning at least by 2 to 0. LOL
Early voting is strong in Ohio.

When Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin directed Air Force B-2 Spirit bombers to bomb Iran-backed Houthi targets in Yemen, a move the Pentagon announced Wednesday night, it marked the first time in the 2020s that the aircraft was used in a combat operation.

The bombers conducted airstrikes on five underground weapons facilities, Austin said in a statement, and the operation was conducted to retaliate against the Houthis targeting civilian and military ships in the region.

“This was a unique demonstration of the United States' ability to target facilities that our adversaries seek to keep out of reach, no matter how deeply buried underground, hardened, or fortified,” Austin said. “The employment of U.S. Air Force B-2 Spirit long-range stealth bombers demonstrate U.S. global strike capabilities to take action against these targets when necessary, anytime, anywhere

7:43 Good morning .  Very nice forcast today.  I am thinking of going leaf peeping by myself.  Kind of sad to say I have no-one to ride along. Oh Poor Me. LOL Karen is doctoring and Debbie is too busy with funeral planning for her ex who died this week.  Life is really way too short.  He just retired and seemed in very good health at 65.  So was a real shocker to us all.
I won't stay long this morning, but I want to say I am glad I was among the 13000 early voters in my county.
Bye now EV1 GBU, Israel, Ukraine, and all those who are suffering.

Lily, Spanky, Color, and More - UPDATE October 17, 2024

Aspens on driveway
Lily is not done checking her old den with her cubs. The camera spotted one of her cubs there four days ago, but it also spotted a non-clan mother with three cubs there yesterday. Waiting on edge to see if Lily might add a chapter to her life by claiming the den for the winter.

Spanky 10-16
Spanky 10-16

A call and photo sent here today shows Spanky on a nice bed, raked into what we suspect is his den for the winter. The landowner will be checking to see.

Color is at its peak now with leaves beginning to fall fast with the below freezing nights. Under the aspens, the driveway is covered with yellow leaves with many more yet to fall from the trees overhead.

A taste of Ely snow by Eric Sherman 10-13-24

Local photographer Eric Sherman saw this beautiful taste of winter some 30 miles east-southeast of here this past Sunday while I was looking at the late-turning leaves without a thought of snow.

Rusty blackbird female
Rusty blackbird female

Birds coming through now include this female rusty blackbird in fall plumage who seemed to say “This is who I am” as she posed showing her yellow eye, gray rump patch, rusty crown, and buffy eyebrow patch.

 Blue Jay
Blue Jay
 Crow
Crow
Over a hundred crows visit each day, but the most colorful birds are still the blue jays, the crows’ bright blue cousins in the family Corvidae. Blue jays stop by to fill their throat pouches (a.k.a. gular pouches) with bits of sunflower seeds as this one has done. His head is tilted back because he or she has just swallowed a beakful.

Waiting to hear who, if any, claims the den the two moms are checking.

Thank you for all you do,

6:21Right on average.  How pretty today is.  62 and sunny.  I don't have any plans again. Maybe biking, Bonnie visit, or football.  I have some obits for Debbie, but don't know where she will be all day.  She usually goes to Berea Animal Rescue on Sunday.  She was at the county pound yesterday with Sinatra giving him some play time.  I will send a pic after while just to share.
Did a lot of Fall tripping yesterday. It was great.  I sent pics to my whole home bound crew, Karen, Debbie, and little Mary, just to make them jealous.  LOL
Cal, I think this thread has a lot of followers we do not hear from at all, but are grateful to have.  I think there are about 44 people who view our posts almost every day.  I say welcome, and chime in any time with your puzzle times and eagle bear news.  We are all animal cam watchers and fans.  We all enjoy Doc's and Sharon's updates.  We especially all like seeing the great animal pics in the updates.
Well enough for now.  Sad for Royals, and now Indians too.  See ya next year, again.  Go Browns and Chiefs.
