5:42 on hazy Bell Tower.
Our hero eagles keeping eggs safe while being bombarded with ice and rain and snow this morning.  They are the greatest.
Did not check in on all cams this morning.  I was busy with car and house ins, again.  Almost done I think.  One more paper to sign to end old one, and one refund to complete new ones.  Then done maybe. Terrible weather here today.  Cold and lots of rain.  Also lots of snow on the way.  I was planning to go out and try a new place for fish dinners, but I am not sure I want slop up my clean car and garage floor.  I don't know how to get the floor clean yet.  It is Nature Stone and dirt goes down into crevasses and stains the surface.
Got the mail, and Had a nice lunch already.  Calzone and potato salad from Aldi's with ice water to drink.  Have lots of food in my refrigerator.  This is another reason to skip goin out.
Almost 2:30 here in Ohio, and getting a little sleepy as I am prone to do around 3 o'clock each day.
So CUL EV1 GBU and GB Ukraine this wintery Ashe Wednesday.

Bell Tower ...  27:32      50° (4:35 pm)    We had about a half hour rainstorm, a good one, but none of the heavy winds that they have been predicted for the last 2 or 3 days.  Heavily cloudy.

I hope all is well with everyone.

Hi Joho ...  you're right, the eagles are the greatest.  I used to watch the Decorah eagles a lot an found them to be amazing.  I'm not sure how I got out of the habit of watching them, but they are fabulous.

Hi Cal  ...    My daughter, Susan, in Wyoming often sends me flowers, and I love that she is thoughtful, but I wish she wouldn't send me real flower since I have to keep them out of reach of the cats, which ends up either being the top of the refrigerator or in my room ... pollen and all.  There are some stunning artificial flowers out there.

Susan's mother-in-law lives in Casper, Wyoming.  I hope she stays in.  😟

I have been watching the eagle mom in Big Bear Valley CA the last several hours.  She is almost covered in snow with a lot more falling all the time.  You can see her breathing i think.
I think the Decorah Eagles moved away and did not have any action for the last several years.  This year I think another pair are using the nest with the camera at the fish hatchery. While the original or previous eagle pair are nesting nearby, but without a camera.  The Decorah North Eagles are putting on a show as good as any.  Today they were being covered with snow earlier.
The bear cams are great, but when they are sleeping it is hard for me to stay attentive.  The PA bear under the porch is good for a peak now and then.  I believe I heard that people are using the home where this bear is under their porch. They just leave him alone.
Well back to the eagle cams CUL EV 1 GBU abd GB Ukraine.

Someone I’ll Miss and Watchful Eyes - UPDATE February 22, 2023

V-Dot by Neala Schleuning
Someone I’ll miss is Neala Schleuning who has been a regular in the Black Bear Field Courses for years but had to cancel a month and a half ago because of cancer and passed away this morning.

On her Facebook page, she had this picture, saying “His name is V-dot. He has a blaze that is a v and a dot on his chest” and “I go up to Ely MN to be with wild bears for a couple of days. It's an amazing experience being up close and intimate with these wonderful beings.” Someone responded, “Wow! You're a brave woman.” Neala wrote, “Naah! They're just big sweeties!”

Pileated woodpecker female
Pileated woodpecker female
Raven
Raven
Out the window, when the fox and Bob Cat don’t come during the night, meat is left in the usual spot and then disappears during the day when I’m not looking. In the last couple days, two visitors became suspects. This raven swooped in close several times and sheered away when he saw me at my desk by the window. He almost hovered to grab the meat without landing once but again shied away. Then another bird became a suspect. This female pileated woodpecker approached, hesitated when she saw me, and showed a moment of unusual bravery by landing briefly to sweep away several inches of fresh snow with her beak in the exact spot where the meat usually is. Eyes of the Night put out a big pile this evening to see what action it gets overnight. I hope she gets a picture or two.

The beaver lodge across the little lake shows the smooth, fresh snow.

Looking forward to seeing what the security camera catches through the night and learning who partakes of the meat.

Thank you for all you do,

hi you guys its 25 real feel is 18 very windy cold wind 40 and rain in iceland 29 and sunny in kyiv and 51 in the barn. at first i thought vdot had passed away but it was docs friend and by that cancer.  :( so sorry for that lost. hope all of them are doing okay with the winter storm pretty cool to have a cam set up to see who all comes.

hi joho i dont have a ton of time so watching cams at times it tight and i too use to watch the eagles all the time but i tell you cant take them killing stuff and i know they have to feed themselves and the kids but i cant take it. bears dont do that and now i love that donkey cam they dont do that either. and when dad decorah went missing that was just too sad for me. donkey cam elvis and mab on one side and new horse on other and housekeeping is needing for the horse. i just did some of that housekeeping out in the barn. i do like the bear under the porch and the falcon cam that cam is iced over that is one tough bird too.

hi neva yes jims roses looked so real that when he brought them home i was upset but put water in a jug and put them in there and jim said what are you doing? so i put them back in the wrapper and the red ribbon  around it and laid them on a grave. omg i sure do hope her mil stayed in im sure she did temp was -5 all that snow saw a runaway semitruck that barely missed hitting the police officer. is sussan in casper right now? saw you had some rain and good you missed those high winds.  saw on the world news people acting like putin just the best at his lying speech. but some want to know where there sons are

5:37  Winter everywhere but here.  A little rain ending soon.  Going up to 65 degrees.  Poor eagles are really being blasted with snow.  Even in Big Bear Nest in Ca.  She is getting hit the hardest.  All night long, and more snow this morning still.  She must be up in the mountains for that much winter in CA.  The North eagle has lots of snow too.
So brave these mothers are.  The dads too help keep eggs warm.
No big plans for today.  If rain stops I will probably take a ride somewhere.  Maybe get a donut at Circles On The Square in Medina or lunch down Rt 83 a ways.  Maybe in Wooster or Orrville or Dalton where nephew has bought a new house.  I have to head South to explore, because I live so close to Lake Erie there is only water to my North.
Now for some more cam watching.  CUL EV1 GBU and GB Ukraine

6:49 Thanks Cal. Cold and grey today. 28 degrees.
No plans.  Just stay warm.
Maybe get a Lent fish dinner to go to lake front at about 5pm.  I will ask Deb if she wants to go, but she usually eats after 7 or 8 pm, and they quit serving at 5:30.  I made a big kettle of chicken soup last night, but this is Good Friday.  So fish is indicated by my religious calendar.  I left the soup on the stove all night.  I will freeze most of it this morning in single or double serving containers.

Did peak at cams this morning.  All the eagers seem to be getting a break from the snow finally. They are surrounded by snow from Iowa to California, but at least they are not covered up in snow. The MN DNR eagle is calling for relief now.
Lots of new snow on Dog Cam.  Looks very nice from here.
Time to start doing up soup for freezer.  So CUL EV1.  GBU and GB Ukraine

Turkey adopted a more conciliatory stance on Sweden’s NATO application after US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Turkish President Tayyip, and Foreign Minister Mevlüt Cavusoglu discussed the possible purchase of US F16 aircraft on Monday.

Aftershowing opposition to the joint NATO membership bid of Finland and particularly Sweden for months, Turkey finally showed signs of softening its position on Monday.

“More meetings will be held with Sweden and Finland on NATO membership,” Turkey’s Foreign Minister announced.

Turkey doubled down its opposition to Sweden’s NATO application, citing, in particular, Sweden’s refusal to extradite members of the Turkish opposition, mainly Kurds.

Turkey later went so far as to rule out its support for Swedish membership following the Quran-burning incident in January in Stockholm. The NATO process “has been put on hold”, Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström said at the time.

“This is a very much welcome and good message from Turkey,” said Billström, while Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said he expects to “get back to these talks as soon as possible”.

US influence

Turkey’s change of heart comes after the US ramped up the pressure on Ankara to let Sweden and Finland into the Alliance as soon as possible.

As Kristersson pointed out, other NATO countries have extremely strong support for Sweden joining NATO.

“Solid” support for Sweden’s NATO application was expressed by US Vice-President Kamala Harris, according to Kristerrsson.

This support was echoed by Blinken during his joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart on Monday. “The United States strongly supports Nordic accession as soon as possible,” he said, adding that “Sweden and Finland’s NATO expansion is not a bilateral issue”.

Discussions between Blinken and Cavusoglu revolved around the sale of US F-16 jets to Turkey though Cavusoglu denied that these talks had any influence on Turkey’s newly-found eagerness to deal with Sweden’s NATO application.

“It would not be right or fair to make two independent issues conditional on each other,” Cavusoglu said, adding that “It would not be possible for us to purchase the F-16s under these conditions.”

Turkey is now seeking to upgrade its F-16 fleet after it was kicked off a project to develop the next-generation F-35 fighter following its acquisition of Russian air defence missiles.

On the US side, Blinken assured that the F-16 deal was “very important for ongoing NATO interoperability and in the national interest of the United States”.

The secretary of state’s declarations echoed Social Democrat MEP Evin Ircin’s earlier interview with EURACTIV. Asked if the US should be more involved in solving Ankara’s stalling Sweden’s NATO application, she answered: “Absolutely. It’s in the interest of the US, of all the EU member states, and, in the end, it is also in the interest of Turkey.”
