Ted Is Okay and On His Way Back - UPDATE November 12, 2021
Ted in his den 12-16-20
Ted in his den 12-16-20

The word is that all went well. From what I’ve heard, the team removed the roots of his four canines that broke off shortly after his arrival back in 2007. They also extracted two other teeth. We’ll eventually get a report that tells all. No one other than our/his veterinarian was able to go into the hospital with him due to Covid restrictions.

They started back with him about 5:30 PM and are predicted to be at the Bear Center by 11 PM where they will place his cage in front of the open door to his familiar pen, open the cage door, and see Ted enter his pen and go to his chalet for the night. I’ve heard only good about his situation and trust that the doctors are doing what they are noted for being tops in their field. I requested pictures to put in subsequent updates. Thanks for all your prayers and support. I’m anticipating the best for him. My thoughts for the past 30 hours have been about what he is experiencing and how he feels about it and hoping the valium he received has kept him calm. He was sedated, of course, during the dental work itself. I’m guessing he is missing his comfy, familiar chalet. I look forward to seeing him there.

Thank you for all you do.

6:20  Very scared for Ted.  I feel he needs prayers to wake up soon.
God Bless our Ted please rouse him from his drugs and sleepiness to invigorate his metabolism and his kidneys. Also please God bless those who are suffering this morning.  Especially those souls in purgatory.
Bye for now

Donkey ...  23:21       53° right now, feels like 49° and is supposed to reach 87° tomorrow.  When I read about your temps, wind and cold weather, I feel like shivering.

Cal, I love the Advent Calendar.  Thanks.

I'm glad that Ted got up and got into his Chalet, with its warm bedding.  Thank goodness he is okay.  It was wonderful to read about how well that went, as you said, Joho, with another bear, it could have gone very differently.

I hope that tomorrow will be a good day for us all.

From Marge Ted is doing well!  He just had a vet check and was given a reversal drug to help him come out of the anesthesia faster.  Not soon after administration of the drug, Ted got up and made his way to his Chalet where he was raking and making himself comfortable.  We are so thankful for Ted's vet team and all of his caregivers.  We are also so thankful for all of your support too!

Ted Settles In, Dexter Still on the Move - UPDATE November 13, 2021
Ted recovering
Ted recovering
Last night, around midnight, we left Ted resting and recovering in his travel cage while many of us continued to watch the scene on Ted’s camera. Some time after 4 AM, he managed to move out, but he was unable to stand. Still under the influence of his anesthesia, he remained between the cage and his chalet and was still in the same spot in mid morning when seven of us arrived to remove the travel cage. As we moved about, he lay quietly, sometimes rolling a bit as if trying to get up. Then he showed how mentally alert he was. When Sharon and I spoke to him, he immediately raised his head and focused on the familiar voices long enough to snap a picture. Then he again tried to get up.

Ted in chalet by 3:30pm
In early afternoon, I stopped by again. He wanted to get up but couldn’t. It seemed the anesthesia drugs were hanging on too long despite administration of a reversal drug. The medical team went into action with an additional shot. Within a half hour, Ted was up, moving into his chalet, and arranging the straw to his liking. He was settling in to his familiar home. He relaxed and rested the rest of the day, making everyone feel relieved that he was back to normal behavior. Tonight, we, too, will sleep well, thankful that Ted is getting good care from Sharon and the Bear Center staff and from his medical team. Local veterinarian Kristin McCarty and her husband Sean had two nearly sleepless nights transporting and attending to his every need after his 6 hours of surgery. More information on that is coming soon.

Dexter on scale
At the Wildlife Research Institute, yearling male Dexter made another visit this evening at 7:25 PM despite falling snow, moving onto the scale to reveal his weight of 201 pounds. The last of the other bears that have been visiting other feeders disappeared at 12:15 AM on November 9. With Dexter visiting this evening, he has only five more days to go to tie Quill’s record of November 18. I tried back-tracking Dexter this afternoon to see if he had a den nearby, but it was getting dark when I lost his trail on a snowless stretch of a dirt road. We’ll see what we can discover tomorrow.

I’m also looking forward to seeing how much Ted perks up tomorrow.

Thank you for all you do.

Did puzzle in 5:06 but am still waiting for the train.
Ted is finally doing some normal stuff today.  Has a good appetite per Sharon.  Had a nice visit with Dr. Rogers picking straw off his head. Ted wiggled like he wanted it there. LOL
Have not been driving much.  So when I filled up my little 13 gallon tank and it said $39.76 Please, I got a little sticker shock.
I saw Campbells Chicken Noodle soup at $1.25, and other flavors at almost $2.00 per can.  I get chicken noodle a lot and remember usually paying less than a dollar.  I guess inflation is a real thing now.
Winter got here for real today with snow covering the ground while I napped.  Did get up and go let Boss out for Debbie.  He was very funny.  He did not like walking in the slushy snow.  I threw him a snowball.  He ignored it.  So I threw him another.  This time he reached down and ate it.  Then to my horror he started pawing at the spot where the snowball used to be. Instant muddy  muddy paw.  Big paw too.  He let me wipe all four feet.  I hope I did well enough to protect Debbies white couch.
Well getting a little chill so I will go now and put the furnace up a little.
Bye now GB

Having trouble sleeping feet and leg too sore.  So I got up now soaking my feet in warm water.
Ted is not having a restful night either.  He is out by his log with snow falling.  He is constantly writhing and squirming.  The only thing normal about his actions is that he is raking the straw that is within reach.
Well think I will play some solitaire now.  Maybe some PBS tv.  BTW Chiefs looked like their old selves to night.
Bye for now GB
