Shadow, Lily, a Fox, and a Thank You - UPDATE October 21, 2021
Shadow July 21, 2021
Shadow July 21, 2021

Inquiring minds want to know. What is the latest on Shadow and Lily?

Red fox
Red fox
The last sighting of Shadow was the evening of August 12. I feel confident that she headed off to a den and was snug and safe through bear hunting season. She did the same thing a decade or so ago. The picture of her was July 28, just 15 days before she left. The picture shows her white face—the whitest I’ve seen on any bear ever. And she’s earned it. At 34, she is the second oldest black bear on record.

While Shadow left extra early, Lily left late for an expecting mother—October 13 at 9:53 PM. We’ll see if that means she is not pregnant and will not produce cubs two years in a row, or maybe it will just show that even pregnant mothers will sometimes den that late.

A red fox looked in the window while making its rounds sharing the bears’ food. He or she is still shy and jumpy, but it is getting used to me sitting at my desk and now clicking the camera a bit.

It was nice to see Chloe and her cubs stop by again. Another highlight was a visit by Hank and Linda Ziobro to hand me a check for the $5,600 proceeds from the virtual auction as part of the virtual Lilypad picnic this past July. Thank you so much to all who participated. We’re hoping for a real Lilypad picnic in 2022.

Thank you for all you do.

8:12 on this toughie.
 Only 49 cloudy at 10am.
Going out for Brian's 30th birthday to Fiesta Habaneros. Have no idea what to order.  This is Mary's pick of a place to celebrate.  I should ask her what is good.  Maybe I will a little later. If not I think I will order chicken  or beef of some kind.  Will not be tacos, because everything falls out the end when I bite into them.  Maybe burrito will be the one.  Maybe something else that I have not tried.  There are many of those since I don't try Mexican foods much.  Joan used to get some dishes at Taco Bell that were good, but I don't know the names.  My sister in California liked burritos.  We shared some once and I remember it was good and filling.  So there is a good chance I will have burritos. Debbie had some triangular Mexican food once at Quaker Steak & Lube that were good.  I will find the name today and maybe try them.
Well I think I am spending too much time worrying about dinner so I will say so long for now.
BTW looks more and more like Tasha is going down for winter soon in the Rock Den.  YAY!
Saw a nice flock of turkeys on snowman.

Sled dog ...   38:27   beautiful dog!

Good afternoon everyone ...

Today is supposed to get to 86°, it's 80° at the moment.

Hi Cal ...  I sure miss Maddie.  I have her ashes, which will be mixed with mine, eventually, along with my Dachshund, Hansi ... and be put out at Larry's and my favorite place in the desert.  Did I ever tell you about the day we all gathered out there with Larry's ashes?  After we put his ashes out there, we noticed a small cloud had formed over us, in the slightly distorted, but definite shape of a heart ... and it stayed there for a long time, not moving or shifting its shape or anything ... and most of us took a photo of it - God bless cellphone cameras - and then it slowly disappeared.  No kidding.  It was pretty awesome.

Cal ... any creature that comes to you and is included in your life, is truly blessed.  I am just glad you don't find a bear in your driveway, what would you do?  You'd most likely find a way to help it.  I'm sure of that.

6;33 pumpkin face
I am ok just out and about until late last night.  Then slept in until 9 am this morning.
Cloudy and  cool today.  It is only 40 degrees at 12:30.  I have 3 shirts on, and am still cold.  Gonna go put on the heat soon.
May go see Debbie and Boss soon. Need to call her. Trip to Mex restaurant was not very fun.  Service was good, but I did not like any of the food.  I saw others just get 3 little tacos on a bed of lettuce.  Next time I will try nachos like niece Susie said she likes.  The fauntas were good sized with lots of whitemeat chicken or with lots of roast beef inside but dry to chew.
The Gringa fries were not too bad with lots of different stuff on them, but got cold too fast.  I took most of the food home and made two meals out of it.  We did have a nice visit though.  It was nice to be out with them all catching up on the news for each.
Sounds like Cal is over loaded, but her animals seem to be doing well.  Sad to hear about the little raccoon's mysterious illness.
Sending prayers to  Cal and her many wards that they may be comfortable and well through the winter.
Bye for now EV1 GB

Tasha, Chloe, Cubs, and a Fox - UPDATE October 24, 2021
Red Fox
Red Fox
At the Bear Center, Tasha is busy raking bedding for her den Click here for video. At the WRI, Chloe and her cubs continue to add nutrients for the winter. They were here last night at 8:35 PM and I suspect will be here again. I’m wondering if they have a den nearby. I remember when Blackheart had a den a mile away but continued bulking up for the births of Dot and Donna. Not all bears are alike. Three adolescent males are still coming to the WRI, too. Along with learning a little more each day about bear behavior, it is nice to see the red fox peek in the window. At the Bear Center, a pine marten is adding excitement. It somehow got into Lucky’s pen Click here for video.

Ted and Lucky got straw on this last day the Bear Center will be open this year.

Thank you for all you do.
