HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NEVA  !!  I hope you have a good day today!

Hi Jewelies!  Sunny, but chilly again.  I was going to work on my leaves today, but after the snake incident, I'm staying inside!  lol

lupine... Sorry to hear about hubby's positive results.  I know you both know what to do and are smart about it.  What a mess, for sure!

cal... Who does KState play tomorrow?   Hope they do better than the last time!!  Tomorrow is the last home game for Clemson and the seniors are saying how sad it will be for them.  If they win, they will set the school record for the class that never lost at home.  Pretty cool for them!

Have a good day, Jewelies!

a snake has nostrils like us but uses its tongue to catch chemical particles in the air the tongue fits into this organ in the roof of its mouth this organ tells the snake what all those particles are like dirt plants other animals isnt that cool? when that one snake got me twice it did not hurt did not swell up or even bruise just little fang marks. i picked them up get them moved to a new location cause i love my birds my mice and not having a snake upset pearl cause her to maybe break a leg i would risk myself with a snake before i would let that happen makes me brave course i say hay god could use some help here.

Thanks for the birthday wishes ... am having a good one ... have decided that today I turn 29 instead of 79.   ;)  That sounds like a good deal to me - maybe.

Lupine - you and hubby are in my thoughts, I hope that you are both feeling good soon, and that all goes well.

You all are always in my thoughts and prayers.  I do read here each day.

Ra ... you have a lot of company in your reaction to snakes.  I have reminded myself occasionally to remember that though I live in the middle of town, I could still walk out into my yard and find a snake, even a rattler ... it hasn't happened yet, but it is possible here in Tucson, Arizona.  I would freak out!  I seriously doubt that I would be looking to relocate it.  My son, Tim, was for years a landscaper and has caught many a snake, including rattlers and relocated them.  It makes me cringe to think about it.   I have heard that rattlers are territorial, and I have wondered how far you have to take them not to have them come back ???

btw ... My son is a snake person ... he has a boa constrictor of his own.

hi neva! good you are having a happy day! lol you are not looking to relocate a snake but if you saw one your son would cause it would have to be relocated good you never saw one when you had maddie rose you would not let a snake hurt her. your son sounds awesome! good snakes like my barn ones not poisonous will kill poisonous snakes go after pack of big rats have a big herd of rats or a snake. like a watch dog some people may want that i dont so relocate them.  i bet your son has done some really nice landscaping. so good to see you hay only 29 can i do that too?

You're right, Cal, a snake can't help being a snake, but I still would freak out, and would just try to get away from it.  I would probably call someone, maybe even Tim - he knows what to do.  Veterinarians here advertise some kind of training that they can give dogs that helps to teach them to avoid rattlers - don't know what it is exactly.  Yes, I would do anything to save the dogs, or my kids or grandkids.  I just hope that situation never comes up.   I am also not thrilled with spiders - especially Black Widows...    :-\   I had one walk across my bare foot one time.  I was out in the patio talking to a neighbor and I felt something on my foot and looked down, and there was a huge Black Widow walking across the top of my foot.  I remained very still until she got off on the other side and then ... yes, I did kill her.  I had little kids at the time that played in that patio.  Maybe she came back as a butterfly ... hopefully   :-)

Daily Updates
Ted, Tasha, and the Book - UPDATE November 27, 2020
27 November 2020
 Print Email
Red squirrel
Red squirrel at the WRI

"Happycub" captured some text and pictures of Ted and Tasha?s activities this past week or so.

Ted
Ted

She caught a picture of handsome Ted and said, ?Ted didn't wait for his 'Thanksgiving Meal' this year. He hibernated early and seems to be too comfortable to even consider playing with his bowl(s) (1 or 2 under his straw).?

Tasha on the creek
Tasha on the creek

For Holly, Lucky, and Tasha, she said, ?Holly - we know is too content to make any attempt at an appearance - and the same goes for Handsome Lucky. Tasha has been the trooper this year - and seems to be settling in nicely in the rock den.? Happycub included pictures of ?Tasha on the creek, licking ice;? and several of Tasha in her den. Notice the difference in bedding between the picture of her on November 19 and her resting in comfort on November 25. The four pictures from November 25 show the fruits of her week of gathering grass from far and wide and arranging it in her den. "Happycub" also said, ?Awesome to have the Live Cam on a hibernating bear - as we continue to learn together. Let us hope for the wild bear cam approval.? Right on!

Here at the WRI, after a good day of following Dr. Michael W. Fox?s advice for Thanksgiving Day with Donna (?If you get writer?s block, take a break.?), the squirrels and I awoke to fresh snow followed by sunshine and, at least for me, a day of good thinking about a book chapter, a possible paper, Lily, and some possible exposure for Tasha. Good things happening.

Thank you for all you do.

hi jewelies it is 32 here 51 in the barn 2 raccoonies but i know there is more. pictures are awesome in update today that one of tasha peeking out priceless. she looks like calihoula. nice bed she has going and teds bed looks very comfy too.  love the squirrel

hi neva! nope a snake has got to be a snake and you might of been surprised at yourself on what you would do to save your dog kids grands love makes you brave it does me. that is cool you train a dog to leave them alone now they have not met penny and brownie and calihoula maybe one on one but them girls get together and they are much braver. you did good not moving on black widow. we have the brown recluse and they can cause major damage to your skin major. i try to look out for them not seen one in a very long time. i bought this snake repellant at my feed store last summer had that one in the attic stuff smelled like moth balls but not moth balls that snake in the attic must of took off too. i put around my barn on the outside and inside not by pearl or in sweets area but the hidy hole in the side where my raccoonies come in did it late in the summer and it seemed to work still got some out in the garage maybe you get that and put it around the outside of your house or get your kids or grands to do it. i just googled it at my feed store snake away

ra you might want to get some too for all snakes.

hi lupe how are you and hubby today? i saw some nfl football team out cause of ykw.

Good morning everyone- haven't been out to feed cats yet but today  is supposed to be nice. Yesterday with the sun it looked grand out. Air was a bit chilly.

Well- i did get tested yesterday- positive for ykw. I called by hcp office early. Office was closed for deep cleaning- covid was there. They weren't scheduled to open until the 30th. They gave a number to get in touch with hcp- called and left a message. She got back to me within an hour and after answering a zillion questions about my symptoms and hubby's symptoms she said i needed to go the the Washington County Hospital for a test.  So glad to not have to go to the city. However, it was still a 25 mile drive. Got in and out very quickly after registration, insurance cards- yadda yadda. It was near noon and i was hungry so i called and picked up lunch on the way home.  I had them put it in the trunk with a bill and i'd pay later.  I had just gotten in the door and the phone rang. My hcp was on the phone with the results. She gave instructions- quarantine for 10 days  with day one the day of first onset of symptoms. for me that was Tuesday.  Rest, read, watch tv, nap if i feel like i need one, don't push yourself to do anything.  Now i can do all that without feeling guilty- hallelujah!  I really don't feel too bad- every time i feel a twinge i think- is that covid acting up?  Hubby is feeling generally yucky yet.

We had a good day of sports yesterday. Wins in football and basketball. The Clemson game is being broadcast here- may watch that.

Have a great  day jewelies!

Hi ev1

Lupine sounds like you are doing OK, considering.  Just 5 more days to go, and less for hubby.  We are praying for your complete recovery.  Thanks for posting.  It helps us not to worry quite as much.  It makes me a little less scared for my own safety.
Neva, ra, cal, rues, nora, et al, 2020 has been a bad year for us all in one way or another, but with the vaccine there is hope for a more normal 2021.  Let's pray that we all make it there to enjoy it.  Who would have thought that just "normal" would look so appealing.

God Bless cul

Hi Jewelies!  Sun is out!  Nice.

cal and lupine... They changed the Clemson game from ESPN to ABC for some reason.  Just wanted to give a heads up.

lupine... I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and hubby that you'll have mild symptoms of ykw.  Scary to think that it has hit one of our Jewelies!

cal... Funny puzzle today!  lol  Thanks for the snake away info.  I'll have to look for it.  Hope it isn't too smelly!

Joho... Yes, normal is looking good to me, too!!

Have a good day, Jewelies!  GO Tigers and Wildcats!
